Remove everything -- all junk -- from on and in and around the house/porch/yard.

Make sure the structure itself (including roofing) as well as plumbing and electrical wiring are up to code and that the water heater works. Label all the breakers in the breaker box -- number them and post a corresponding list inside the door of the breaker box.

Repaint all the ceilings white.

Repaint all the walls in the interior of the home a very pale gray.

Replace any overhead light fixtures that are damaged with basic lighting and add bulbs to make sure they all work.

Replace all switch covers and all outlet covers with the same kind of white ones.

Add new white miniblinds to all the windows in the home, installing them inside the window frames and open them all so the slats are the same -- for symmetry of appearance from the inside and out.

Change the front porch posts. You need four 6"x6" white posts with the two in the middle framing the door (centered between the two center posts).

Paint all the exterior siding light/medium gray.

Paint all trim true white.

Paint all the concrete and stone the same color. Paint the front porch floor and the front steps and the entire foundation around the home and the sidewalk a dark battleship gray.

Consider painting the fascia white as well. Consider adding white gutter, at least across the front.

Remove the forward "face" of the roof dormer -- insulate inside it if it isn't already insulated -- and then replace the face of it either with glass or louvered vent.

Replace the plywood in the dormer on the roof that should be a window with a new window or, at the very least, add an appropriate louvered vent.

Either replace the front door with a larger door or add additional white trim boards around the narrow door/frame to have that too narrow front door appear wider.

Paint the front door a dark bold burgundy.

Plant liriope on both sides of the sidewalk to outline it.

Add seed and fertilizer to and water the front lawn.

Poor little house !! Not a dump but in need of some TLC , first of all repair the roof ,find a colour of shingles that you like , I would dark grey or black , then we can think of the paint colours .

Your house and my house could be cousins. My color scheme could work for you.

The upper portion of you columns appear too skinny. I am not sure where you live, but think if you wrapped them in cedar it would help with proportions.

Is the roof staying or will it be replaced? Let us know that because the color of the roof influences the choices for the body of the house. And by no means is this a dump. It just needs some attention.

Many colors could work on the house, trim and windows. Some questions need to be answered.

1) House you'll be living in or a flip?

2) Historic District in place limiting choices?

3) Budget constraints?

4) Roof staying or being replaced?

5) Shingle color chosen if being replaced?

6) Front door staying or being replaced?

7) Any colors you absolutely love?

8) Any colors you absolutely hate?

9) Will water heater be remaining on front porch? Just kidding about that one.

There is a ton of potential in this house. It just needs your touch to bring it back to it's former glory.

Agree with other posters. Lots of potential with that front porch. And the columns do need to be beefed up and another added on the other side of the door for symmetry. Neutral roofing choice should guide your outside colours but I would lean to warm yellow, white trim/fascia and a red door. Please show us the after pics.

The house looks a bit southern to me. Because of that, I would paint the porch ceiling Haint Blue to keep the evil spirits from entering. Folklore often gives charming hints. Haint Blue is light, and the rest of the house could use a bit of jazzy trim. If this is not in the south, look around the neighborhood to see if others have gone bright or soft in their colors. A light body (cream, pale yellow, light sage) would look good with white trim with a bit of the body color appearing on the trim with the white. It's a cute house.
