Don't hang the pendant. It's too dinky and unnecessary. Fireplace tools if you plan to actually use the FP.

Think about painting the brick the same as the walls.

A collection of woven baskets would look interesting.

Love the look of your pillows.

You might want to tone down the ceiling by painting the beams the same color as the ceiling. They are too bold now unless you can counterbalance with a bold rug.

I agree that you should not hang the pendant light.

Go with the fireplace tools as well.

I would add a rustic wooden mantle across the width of the brick with a darker stain. Add a mirror of frame piece of art just resting on the mantle and a couple of other items. Not too much or too small or it’ll look. Like clutter.

Another option is to build in a seating shelf across the width of the brick also wood in a dark stain. It should extend at least 18” out from the wall just below the hearth. You could then place pillows on either side of the hearth for people to sit on.

I this the woven baskets or platters might be good on the upper brick with this option.

Definitely add a mantel to the fire place. And the beams you should paint a lighter color unless you bring some black into the furniture

Consider refacing your brick fireplace with stucco and leaving it unadorned. It has a beautiful shape. Also consider sanding down your beams and having them stained much lighter. Then perhaps put a pretty house plant/tree in the corner to hide that vent.

I would not add a mantle, so the lines don't compete with the ceiling and the focus stays on the interesting shape of the firebox. Since you are painting your walls, I would paint the fireplace the same color only a few shades deeper. Figure out what you are doing around the fireplace, and you may be able to leave it as is, with just the fireplace tools. Maybe a chair, artwork, and hanging pendent or tall floor lamp on the right side. Determine your main seating and lighting first before you add to the fireplace so you can see the whole picture.

The white ceiling is too bright for this room and the beams are too many and too dark.

Your fireplace doesn't lend itself to a mantel. That would negate the intended style.

I agree with Betsy. That style would be great in stucco, no mantel.

I agree with Beverly. Lighter beam color, asymmetrical metal sculpture, no mantel, heavy wrought iron tools, no stucco, no light (unless you really need the extra light, that might change the whole thought process).

Then add decor on the fireplace if needed. I happen to like the texture and design of the fireplace as is. Wait and see if you need more.

I have the square metal piece that Beverly posted, it is substantial and reasonably priced and makes a statement.

Thanks everyone for your ideas! There is lots to mull over. I’m glad we didn’t purchase the pendant as that seems to be a no go from most of the posts. :)

I would get a screen and mantle.

Perhaps paint the fireplace black or to match beams, add a huge artwork on fireplace, black fire screen

No pendant, no screen, no mantel. Either match the wall color or, go high contrast- whichever you are drawn to. A slight tone difference just looks like you couldn’t make a decision. Add a tall plant to cover the awkward left area and a couple of large organic baskets on the right. I wouldn’t hang anything on the brick- it wants to be minimalist to me.

Forgot the ceiling- leave the beams alone but paint the ceiling the same color as the walls.

Does the pendant come in a larger size? 8 1/4" is pretty dinky for that big wall. The style is appropriate but the size must be a LOT LARGER to make any sense. And I would hang it swagged so it is directly over the point of the fireplace opening.

Personally I think the pendant suits the style of the room, but the size seems tiny. Here's an art option for you that I think looks interesting. Shown here without a frame but the right frame might be even cooler.
