For me it would be the trim color, white.

Remove and don't reinstall the shutters. They don't work on any of your windows. After that, new landscaping. If you're wanting to do more changes (i.e. more expensive things) I would look at a wider horizontal siding. The narrow siding makes the front look too busy.

Agree with Creative except for the siding. If desired, would paint siding a colour from the brick (not totally necessary), but not change width. Remove shutters, do landscaping, paint new door in deep mustard yellow (which was your question).

To answer your question, paint your door the colour of your siding and garage door. If you like the colour of the shutters, paint the door a similar colour. I wouldn’t add another colour.

If keeping all other elements the same a spruce green would be nice.

Remove all the shutters. Starting one board above the top of the bedroom windows paint the gable a soft variation of the brick colour: this will add another horizontal to the strongly horizontal shape of the house. Add plain bold trim around the door, then paint door and trim white or something like teal/bittersweet/spruce (all of which would work well with the brick).

Before you go removing everything I think we need to know what style the door is. Do you have a photo you can post? Is it traditional? Modern? Craftsman? Right now based on your light post I assume you have a traditional esthetic going on. Based on that I wouldnt remove the shutters. I would add window boxes. But if your goal is to make the home look more modern and your new door is the start of this then shutter removal may be the way to go. We need more info and a photo of the door. Also how much are you willing to change? Paint? Remove siding? etc.

Totally agree with removing the shutters, but I have two questions. If this is vinyl siding, and the shutters are attached with screws, can the holes be repaired? Also, is it likely that the siding woulet have faded, leaving a distinct color difference where the shutters had been?

Another vote for removing the shutters. The house and windows aren't the right style for them. Black could work for the door, especially with a black light fixture and lamp post. One of the greens from Design Interior South would also be nice. With the shutters gone, the trim around the windows might work with the same color you choose for the door.

however, as is, I like a dark midnight blue shade. it works well w/the orange tones in the brick

the shutters need to go. (if closed shutters do NOT completely close over the windows, they are the wrong size)

I am appreciating all of the feedback. Just quickly, the landscaping..agree updating is needed. We are in PA. This photo was in the fall and things are not in bloom. The shrubs, though old, are not dead. We have not lived here long and the former owner was a gardner. The flower beds are absolutely full of perennials so we need to figure out what to pull. I will post additional photos of the house since I am getting good ideas.

This is the house when we got it. The tree on the left has been removed. Not much else has been done to the front besides the shutters and light post. As you can see...it is Jumangi and nothing is dead. lol

Thoughts on an orange/red to go with the brick? The one on the right is a no.
