Hello! Our new front door (not trimmed out yet in the is photo) is great, and now we need to figure out what to do with our deck and steps. Here's the deal, underneath the deck are three brick steps, and they are not in good shape. About four years ago we enclosed in the front porch to create an entry hall. Our neighbor helped us build the landing and stairs in a weekend after we did not pass our inspection due to the brick steps no longer being to code since there was not a landing. The front entry hall is so useful and we love not entering directly into our living room, but the front of our home needs so much help due to us enclosing the front porch. We have been living with this deck for about four years, and our painters are coming to start prepping the house for much needed exterior painting on May 1. We are so ready to improve our curb appeal! With the way our roof line is it would be difficult to add a portico, I think. The most pressing issue: should we restore the brick steps? They will need to be completely redone to accommodate a landing and a railing. Or should we try to widen the wood steps, stain the deck, add a different railing, and add skirting/lattice? Right now everything looks too wide... I know that landscaping will help tremendously too. Please give me all you ideas! What we have going on right now is... really really not good :)
