I hear you. Honestly, this was a trial run, and I will probably plant only one per container next year. I just wanted a feel about what types would grow and produce well, and taste good, and didn't want to do just one in case it died.

Your containers and cages look fabulous! I agree that one plant would be better-suited to the size of the containers, but your plants are glowing with health :).

Very healthy! Leaves are a nice dark green, no visible fungus or insects.

Your tomato plants look great. I’ve been growing tomatoes in containers for more than 20 years. For several years in the beginning I did like you and grew two plants in each pot because I only had a few pots and I was worried one of the plants would not produce or would outright die. I didnt get a lit of tomatoes that way and i had a lot of disease due to overcrowding.

I gradually listened to advice from more experienced gardeners and now grow my tomatoes in 20 and 25 gallon grow bags, one to a pot. The plants are much healthier and much more productive. YMMV.

The one thing that concerns me is the kind of fertilizer you are using (seems much too high in K) and how often you fertilize. I wouldn’t fertilize any more often than once every two weeks. And I would advise you to find something like the fertilizers on this list and follow the package directions.

If you plan on canning, canning supplies can be hard to find, so start now! If you plan on saucing and freezing, foodsaver has several models of vacuum sealers that I've been using for years.

If you're not sure, you can always toss the tomatoes in the freezer for later use (not for salads and such, but sauces, later dehydrating, salsa etc)

DH and I do fine with 3 plants for the 2 of us and supplying some of the neighbors, but we grow in raised beds with very good soil. The plants get 5-6' tall.

Nancy, I haven't really planned, mainly because I have no clue of the yield I'm going to get. I suppose i can always make huge batches of basic and pizza sauces, and of raw strained tomatoes, and freeze them in portions. I've looked at tons of canning recipes, but most of them hate garlic, and we like our tomato sauce VERY garlicky. So, freezing is probably the best way to go, for us.

Atheen, there are several models starting at about $99 and working up to a couple hundred$!

If you're just starting out one of the less expensive will work just fine. Some of the more expensive have containers, ways to use your own mason jars, etc.

The main thing is to make your sauce/salsa, cool, fill the bag and lay it on a baking pan with a lip with at least 2-3" for sealing. Freeze, then vac/seal.

Anything saucy should be in the bag and frozen before doing the vac or you'll mess up the machine.

I would go onto their website and learn before you buy!

Both my tomato plants are thriving. The determinate (on the left) took its time, but really picked up lately. The indeterminate is now well over 8 feet tall, and producing at least 3 - 4 tomatoes every day. We ate 6 yesterday, and I picked 3 today... 😋

On another subject, we've got signs of life in 3 of the 4 10gal. #growbags I planted last Sunday (6 days ago). Both varieties of green beans (1) have emerged. Still too early for the Yaya carrots to show (2), but both bags of taters have started to emerge (3 and 4). I will start "hilling them" in about a week. #ContainersPlanting

There is nothing wrong with the fertilizer you're using Atheen. The amount of Potassium (K) isn't anything to worry about and about the same ratio I use on my tomatoes through a injection drip system. The amount used and the frequency is also fine because your soil medium is mostly volcanic glass (perlite) which will not hold the nutrients, and most are leached away. What you're doing and using is working well so don't change a thing unless things go south later in the season.
