You have too much going on de clutter first remove all things from walls and refrig, counters. Window cover in a red roman shade. Paint a soft gray. Are you remodeling ? I would take out bar and just do a smaller center island. New pendant light in window glass multi colors. Ceiling fan instead of lite. In stainless. Go new appl stainless. Granite counters in a cream with gray. Cabinets if good shape could be painted a dark gray with brush nickel hardware long pulled on corners of cab. Paint all room that are seen same color.

That back ceiling light goes add can lite like you have. Paint all trim white. Remove all small art from all rooms. Go bolder colors and much bigger. If totally remodel, there are some walls that could come dn to have a more open concept. New flooring thoughout. Wood in a med color not real dark. Reclaimed wood would work with gray paint. A color called comfort gray by Sherwin Williams is very nice.

Lose all items from living rm walls. De clutter big time. Or anything you do will not look good.

Sorry about the clutter in the pics but this is what accumulates in my kitchen in the course of a day. It seems to be a drop center for all.

So please try to look past my clutter for now.

I agree with travisinteriors ^. Keep in mind when you add the overhang on the island that granite will typically support its own weight out to 12" overhang if it is counterbalanced, and in this case it certainly will be. If you need support, I'd suggest skipping corbels, which will get in the way and you will bang your knees on them. Metal brackets mortised into the cabinet will support the stone nicely, and will be hidden. Good luck with your project!

What is on wall opposite refrigerator wall? Could you post a picture of it? This is very much like a kitchen in our house in southern California also built in the 70s. It had a center island with a cooktop and separate double built in ovens. I'd like to suggest some ideas but I'd love to know about that opposite wall first. Thanks.

Just wondering, what is behind all those doors? Is there any way that the closet area could be combined with just one door? That would at least free up some wall space and clear the traffic area a bit, as well as give you a big, walk-in pantry area.
Is that an old intercom system on the wall behind the table?

What features are you looking for in a remodel? Do you have a floor plan you can upload as a jpg? Have you settled on a budget?

Retro may be in, however, this kitchens 1970-80 look does not transition into this century. You obviously have not had a professional, credentialed designer look at your kitchen. This kitchen definitely needs a major redo by a CKD or ASID credentialed professional
