You do not have to match a rug to the green, marble fireplace.

However, if you do want rug ideas, you need to show the room with the furniture and without the rug. And, of course, seeing these pieces with the fireplace in question would also be helpful.

ETA: also specify whether the art you are showing is the actual art you will be using.

I do want the rug to coordinate with the fireplace and I don’t have to pick the furniture prior to the rug. The picture I posted shows elements of the room and furniture I’m considering.

ANY rug just about can potentially work with the fireplace. But you are not JUST going to have the rug and the fireplace in the space. So it is the combination of elements that is important.

Also, in order to do mockups with rugs in the room, the current rug you are showing needs to be deleted from the picture. And if possible, it would be better to show the actual room that the rug is going to be used in.

But really - I think you should consider hiring a designer. And be prepared to pay someone very well to deal with your attitude.

The sofa on the mood board is the essex sofa from poly and bark! I’ll try & post the mood board without that rug!

I wasn’t sure if the rugs with the smaller patterns clashed with the veining of the marble fireplace surround.

I have exactly the same fireplace. I am planning on replacing the mantel and marble this winter, but in the meantime I have a dark smoke blue rug and gray and cream sofa. I am really just ignoring the dark green marble. How noticeable is it? Mine is so dark if you don't look at it closely it looks black. There is not a lot of veining on mine. I think the rug you're showing is fine. Look at something a little darker too. That might help to bridge the upholstered pieces with the dark fireplace. You can have as much pattern as you like on the rug. In the same way that wood floors are perceived as neutrals, a dark fireplace surround is really perceived as a neutral as well. If you really hate the fireplace, save your money and replace it at some point. Mid-'90's, right?

Yes, its a mid 90’s fireplace. I plan to get it redone with brick. Good to hear a lot of you think the patterned rugs are fine with the green marble. Here’s a close up of the marble so you can see the veining. I’m probably just over thinking this whole thing!!

If you are going to replace the green marble with brick, then why are you concerned with getting a rug to work with the marble….and not brick??

Because I’m not redoing the fireplace in the near future.

Rug needs to be darker so it works with the dark green .

I would want some very similar green in the rug. If the tan sofa is in the room, I would look for a rug with some of that color, too, plus the green.

On your mood board, if you move the sofa up to just under the artwork placeholder, I think rugsdirect.com will work better -- there should be more space below the sofa to see the area rug. (When I tried it using your 2nd version of mood board, it did not work very well.)

If I’m hearing your request correctly, we have a caramel leather sofa, cream colored chair, wood floor and green marble fireplace surround in this room. I don’t think it’s that hard to get a multicolored rug that pulls those elements together.

What size? The couch looks like it’s long, so I’ll assume you’re going for 8x10 or 9 x 12.
