How should we mount open shelving in the kitchen?

Our dilemma is that we cannot mount floating shelves in the traditional way, with rods going into the wall, because our house is block and there aren't supports big enough to screw them into. We tiled the kitchen all the way up the the ceiling, knowing we wouldn't be able to mount anything into the wall. SO, we have always intended to mount them from the ceiling. The problem, I can't find the type of harward that I'm imagining. Thinking a threaded rod type that comes down from the ceiling with shelves that would be secured to them at invervals. I do not want the shevles to come off the countertops if possible. Help!

IMO, open shelves are a cleaning/organizing nightmare, but have you considered the area where the bench is. You certainly don't want them near the range where all the grease and dust will be an issue.

search through Houzz IMAGES with your description."suspended kitchen shelves " or the like. there are various installations of this sort. When you bring up the Questions on the image often someone will list sources or who did what in these spaces. are you talking about left of fridge and flanking the hood?

Of course this can be done but I am confused with why you did not do cabints on those walls . Open shelving in kitchens are IMO best left for small areas like a coffee bar maybe but not for everyday use for most things. Just a cleaning nightmare IMO . There are you tubes showing exactly what you want to do.

We might suggest some open shelving, but also some cabinets. Here is a kitchen design we did for a client that might help some.
