I'd look for a way to terminate the contract. He probably wants to be rid of you too.

Houzz doesn't recommend any contractors. There is no background check of contractors.

The contractors are just a list of ones in your area no promises at all from Houzz. IMo we would need to see the emails to understand the tone and what they covered before bad mouthing some one. Waht was the respanse from the Attorney General's office ? You do not give even one example of the emails so IMO no way would I get in the middle of this with advice .To post this with no real info only how it makes you feel is really not going to get much help here.

I was not certain if I should be publishing the emails in a public forum. I am still waiting for a response from the Attorney General's Office. I did send some of the emails to them, however. To have sent all of them would have been too overwhelming.

I did not suggest you post them here only that I for one am not in a position to tell you what to do with no real info.What seems nasty to one person could be something quite different for another and we have no back story as to what you even hired them for and what you paid 12K for . Sorry if this is happening but honeastly we do not really have any info. BTW you coud put snippets of e-mails here with it not being bad.

I've never sent a correspondence to a customer or potential customer that I would mind having published here and I've written some real doozies. I got a one-star review from a woman who didn't lke my prices. I really had to dial it back in my response to her.

@Patricia Colwell Consulting is absolutely correct. You provide zero information here as to the nature of these “upsetting” communications between you and this contractor. You also provide zero information as to any events which may have led up to said communications. The ONLY information that you ’have’ provided - in this public, online forum - is the contractor’s name, as well as the name of his business... You have also made your high blood pressure condition public, and have made a claim that this contractor is affecting your health. So hence, you have one commentor here actually referring to this contractor as ”a pig”; and this assessment is being made based upon ZERO SPECIFIC INFORMATION from you. So if you just wanted to elicit sympathy, and to publicly defame this contractor, you have accomplished that.

Beyond that - this is NOT the place for you to negotiate this. If you really feel that this contractor is harassing you - call your local law enforcement/authorities and file a report. If you just no longer wish to work with this contractor (which from what you say - I assume you would not want to continue a working relationship with him) then seek to terminate your contract, and hire an attorney to handle whatever money disputes ensue. Or, alternatively, just move on and chalk up the money; which may ultimately end up being better for your pocket and your health.
