Closing the lever on ac ceiling register

Is it okay to use the lever on the ac ceiling register to reduce the ac as much as possible coming in to 1 upstairs bedroom?
I was thinking to do this when the warm weather comes around for various reasons. (The central ac system was installed around 1999. There are 3 registers upstairs and 5 downstairs. It has the exterior unit outside
