I did a quick comparison on Abt and that shows a few minor differences, which may or may not matter to you for the $300 price difference. (e.g. difference in back and front left element sizes, addition of a telescopic rack.)

ETA I had a Bosch convection oven in my last house, and I liked the convection roast. I may have imagined it, but it seemed like roasts (whether meats or potatoes) had a nice kind of crust with a tender inside.

It's hard to find anything on display lately. And I've been planning on replacing my old stove for so long that all the products have changed. :)

I was looking at the 800 but there were enough complaints about the noise level that I ended up going a different direction.

I couldn’t find an operable one on display but I talked to some sales guys who affirmed they have heard that complaint as well.

I do not have an 800, I have a Benchmark. I have not noticed any inordinant noise levels with my model. What is the source of the noise, oven fan or induction hobs?

I think the fan noise is withing acceptible limits. There may have been some issues with earlier models that have since been resolved. My Bosch DW makes noises too. It's a matter of how sensitive you are to noise. I live in a small open-concept house and neither of these appliances seem unreasonable loud to me.

I've had electric ovens with fans and I've had induction cooktops and i think I'll be okay with the noises. I do love how my zero electronics gas range is utterly silent unless the convection fan is on but nothing is perfect in every way. And an audible reminder of when things are on is probably not a bad thing (imagine a glare directed at the spouse who left a burner on low for an hour after dinner the other day...).

I'm now considering other models because I'm not sure my range hole is flat enough for the glass top of the Bosches. Argh!

Yeah, your countertop has to be perfectly level on both sides. Good luck with your search.

The spec sheet says they have leveling legs, unless your countertops are really off it should be ok, no?

The Bosch industrial design model also has knobs for burner control.

These models have the glass sitting on the countertop on either side, Random, so I guess you could level it with the feet, but then your cooktop might not be level. And I can't easily pull out my current range to drop a level on it.

Anyway, I am looking at other ones and the Bosch industrial one is appealing because I remembered how much I don't like a touchpad and knobs are pretty great...I know they are still electronic but they are sure easier to grab.

Yes, they are easy to grab and they don’t get fussy and beep at you when your hands are not perfectly clean or dry 🙄

It depends. If the countertops were both not level front-to-back or side-to-side then you could adjust the legs to solve the problem. But if, say, the front of one countertop were a different height than the back of the other countertop then no amount of foot adustment will solve the problem...and the range can't bend.

The Bosch HIS8055U is $4400 while the competing LG LSIL6336F is $2600. Is one worth $1800 more than the other? Hmmm. (Be sure to check the location of the 240 volt outlet for compatibility with the range.)

The Yale appliance reviews claim that the freestanding models are actually made by Smeg, not Bosch. No idea how one would confirm this but it sounds plausible to me.

As far as the LG goes, I want to see one. Cheaper is always better, especially when one is replacing a functional not-that-cheap range. Love the LG oven size and I do prefer the toekick being included in the package. I don't want black sides sticking out, though, and my gap is under 25" deep. (I really don't want to try to have my countertop altered. I can't imagine it going well.)

I never recalled my Bosch Benchmark beeping at me for wet fingers, so I did a test. The results of the test was that the range did not beep at me for using wet fingers. The Bosch Benchmark has beeped at me on a few rare occasions--when there was an extensive spillover of hot liquids onto the control panel or when a pot was wrongly positioned partway over the controls. These were extremely rare events, so of no concern to me, and they were necessary warnings so that I didn't potentially do damage to the touch controls.

I prefer Bosch's the touchpad over knobs because I love the individual hob timers--my older Bosch has both cook and kitchen timers for each hob. I guess the newer models only have the kitchen timers. And touch pads are so much easier than knobs to keep clean, it's just a quick wipe with a rag. My range may beep at me when wiping the controls, I usually just ignor the beeping, but occasionally I engage the panel lock to prevent the beeping. Getting used to the touchpad is a learning curve, but once you learn it, it becomes very intuitive. I actually think it's fun to dance my fingers on the touchpad controls. I am so glad that the Industrial designs weren't available to me when I was purchasing because I might have been tempted by the knobs and the flush front with the cabinets. I might have disregarded the Benchmark's more functional features that I have come to appreciate. Good luck with your decision.

I could be swayed by touchpad I guess. I've never liked them though. And I do think the knobby Bosch is out of the running. I need to see these things in person! (And I need to slide the current range out of its hole, overcome my disgust at whatever is there, and evaluate the hole properly.)

WDC, that's not enough. To be more detailed, I have a little over 24.5 to the counter edge (I don't care if the range sticks out there). The depth to the front of the cabinetry box is 23.5", with the cabinet doors another 3/4 or so. (Counter overhang is regrettably small.) So a small amount will be sticking out. It'll be small and dark and maybe not noticeable. Or I might hate it with a passion.

I'm wondering about the unframed glass top on the Bosch slide-ins now. I'm unsure how the front corners will work.

I don't know whether my LG LSE4617ST has that but I clean the exterior with Mr. Meyers Multi-Surface cleaner -- wiping metal with the grain -- and a paper towel. Looks okay to me. People seem to like Weiman Stainless Steel Cleaner & Polish.

40A means your wiring from the panel is connected to a 40A breaker. It can be replaced with a 50A breaker. The wiring from the panel to the range outlet would need to be replaced with heavier gauge wiring. It may be easy and inexpensive or difficult and cost more. You have to figure this into the cost of the appliance.

It wouldn't be hard (crawl space) but it would be annoying. I would require an electrician to pull a permit and my city doesn't like to rush these things...I guess I'd have time depending on what I ordered though!

Anyway, there are plenty of apparently acceptable ranges that only require 40A. (My GC was supposed to put in 50. I'm hoping there's a 40 back there to match the circuit box. Grrr.) Need to figure out a way to pull the old stove out a couple inches and have a peek. Appliance dolly I guess?

@theresa21 .Looking at the Benchmark and have a couple of question. I've noticed some online comments regarding the oven turning off, cooling off and then restarting when you want to increase the temperature. In other words, if you start a Turkey at 325 and then want to finish off at a higher temp to crisp the skin, the oven would turn off, cool down, then preheat again. Does this happen with yours? Also, does the Benchmark have Autochef and if not, is there a similar feature? Thanks

You need to check the wire gauge. If it's #6, then you can swap the 40 amp breakers for 50 amp breakers. If the wire gauge is #8, then you would have to upgrade the wiring for 50 amp breakers and range.

That won't tell you anything. You need to check the wires.

I need to pull out the range to get (1) a sense of how level it is and if a slidein with an overhang is a possibility and (2) see if there is a proper outlet at all and if I need an electrician or just an appliance installer.

I haven't been considering any 50A ranges since I ruled out the Miele, but I can certainly check the wires pretty easily at the breaker. Good tip.

my last very inexpensive electric stove had a featire i missed i could set a timer to turn on the stove st a specific time when i got home the stove was pre heated I was surprised Bosch did not have this feature
