How tall are you?

You are going to get all types of answers ... but it comes down to personal taste and/or budget.

And it doesn't matter how tall you are! I'm short and love my mostly 12 ft ceilings, with some 10 and 11 ft areas. All my doors are 36" wide x 8 ft tall.

If it was my house I would do the 8ft doors.

if you aren't skimping on anything else, go for the tallest.

Budget always seems to fit into the decision.

Tall doors make ceilings appear lower and 6-8 doors look short ao I always use 7-0 doors regardless of the ceining height.

8' doors with 9' ceilings will look awkward.

If you can get the 7' doors, do that.

No very tall but I do have tall kids… tallest is just over 6 feet

Door height doesn't affect short people! It affects tall people. Our neighbor is 7' tall (an NBA big), so 6'8" doors are a problem!

@latifolia, true, but some here like to say that anything over 8 ft is wasteful, uncomfortable, etc, etc., so I was giving the other side of those opinions.

We love our mostly 12 ft ceilings. Feels perfect for a FL one-story house. My desk area has 10 ft ceilings and sometimes I wish the architect hadn't talked me into lowering some of the areas!

It’s kind of like running kitchen cabinets to ceiling where you can’t reach but looks finished that way. .

An 8' door looks too tall to me with a 9' ceiling.   I'd go 7' max, though I also think a standard 6'8" door also looks fine with 9' ceilings.

The 8’ doors look too tall with 9’ ceilings to me so i wouldn’t spend more for that. 7’ would be reasonable but 6’8” looks fine too. i’m sure my 6’6” husband would appreciate taller doors but most people won’t notice/care.

lharpie, that’s funny. My husband is also 6’6” and he wanted standard 6’8” doors..as long as he doesn’t hit his head I guess he’s happy. I agree that standard size doors look, to my eye at least, more proportioned to 9’ ceilings

Thank you all - so helpful! The cost for the upgraded door was nominal, but I am more concerned about how it looks visually.
