I think you have a good point about painting the stone, it likely won't turnout that. Great. There are a number of new /lightweight stone products on the market that actually make replacing the existing stone much more affordable than it had been in the pas. I think the larger issue you will run into with wanting t go grey / black is the need to replace the shingles. It's really the only a to be away from the brown color pallet.

The overall stone and siding color looks fine, but the color and style of the garage door and shutters are dating the house.

replace your garage door, lighten up the area around your front door and make the front door a bright color that pops. I don't think you can change your whole color scheme to grey and black because of your roof color and the color in your bricks. I do think you could use a very warm greige (but light) color on the upper part of your house and paint your shutters a charcoal color and get away with that. Put some new lighting fixtures up and it will look like a whole new house.

HI -- You can not go into the greys because of the roof . If your plans include a new roof in a charcoal , then you can go in that color direction . Your roof color right now dominates and you have to stay in those color tones of browns .

Add a metal roof,loose the shutters and keep the bricks look into a stucco for the solid color

i like your house the way it is! The only things i would change are (as other posters mentioned) - updating the garage door and lightening up the front door area. I could live with or without the shutters.

I think a brown, or taupe( stucco color)would look great against the stone.

We will for sure change the lighting and garage door. Should we paint the shutters or change them totally? I was thinking of putting pillars on the front porch? I just really dont like the brown color.

I think you CAN go gray on the 2nd story because that will be your color - the roof still goes with the stone. I would go with a quite dark gray. Are the windows gray? I can't tell. Lose the shutters - they don't add anything to the house and if you want to modernize the look, they should go. You can install some flat trim pieces around them just to make them more substantial if you want to. The whole feel of the house - especially the stone - is somewhat rustic. If you can, I would replace the door - not the sidelights - with a wood door (whatever you do, get rid of the white storm door) and repeat this in the garage door. You could match large square columns to this wood tone or go with 4 large corbels under your second story overhang - at the ends of the house portion, each side and underneath your porch roof. These are too traditionally detailed, but give the idea:

If you don't want to replace the front door, paint it (in the gray color scheme) a rich, very dark rusty orange.

While this house has a different aesthetic than yours, the color palette is nice and is something you could use as a guide. Here the roof looks gray and the wood siding is brown - you have the opposite. The wood door definitely looks nice with it though.

A darker neutral color would also work as your paint color, but this is probably too close to what you have on the garage door and are trying to avoid (more in the brown family)


Again, a different style but look at how the darker color looks rich against the stone


This might be a good gray for you. Once again, a totally different style but still a mix of paint, stone and wood.


Simple garage door (which you need, especially if you want to modernize the look) and matching front door:


Change your light fixutres to something very simple, much larger in scale and probably to a st.st. or similar finish - more modern and will show up against the colors.
