    Congratulations on your new house.

Select your paint color after you choose your furniture, flooring and window treatments. If you are thinking about painting the trim in this room, consider the impact on adjoining rooms with stained trim.

What is your budget for updating the fireplace wall?

With a larger budget, consider whether to remove the peaked soffit-type drywall area over the fireplace and perhaps use larger windows/doors to make it a feature wall if you have a great view and it suits the view of the house from the exterior.

I would strongly consider painting the wood trim and baseboard. Doesn't look like some precious wood that "has" to be preserved. Painting trim is a bit tedious, but definitely DIY.

OP also has a post about the kitchen in this house.

First rip out that carpet even if you have to live with barefloors for awhile it is better , As for the the FP does it function ? If not IMO get rid of it and that window but we have too little info to really help.. IMO the trim is best just the same color as whatever you do the walls but wall color needs to have connection to all the stuff YOU have in the space so too soon to choose . I know how exciting this is but you need to slow down and make good choices slowly.

    What a lovely room!

Is privacy outside those windows an issue? The existing window blinds should go. If you don’t need privacy, it would be awesome to have those windows semi-bare.

The elephant in the room is the old plushy carpet. In an ideal world, there would be hardwood under it.

For me, the first priority would be to replace the carpeting with wood before moving in. It's not that hard to paint with furniture in a room - just move it to the middle and cover it with a dropcloth. But it's a real pain to change flooring when you live there. Paint color selection comes last. Maybe the picture is deceptive, but it doesn't look like what is there is in bad condition, and it's neutral. You do need to let us know whether you intend to paint the trim. The ceiling in this room is high. I would hire someone to paint this room because of that and do the other rooms yourself if you want to DIY.

If you ultimately want to paint the whole house, now is a good time to buy a paint deck from whichever paint manufacturer you prefer, and cut a piece of drywall into four pieces to use for sampling. You will use the pieces over and over again for sampling. While a lot of people paint the first floor public rooms all the same color, you don't necessarily have to do that (depends on how open the spaces are to each other), and you may want to paint the bathrooms and bedrooms other colors. Try to choose one white for the baseboards and trim throughout.

Windows over a fireplace always look wrong to me, because a real fireplace would have had a flue runnuing up the wall, no place for a window.

QUESTION???? Are you a flipper??? You have at least 4 posts indicating "Just bought this house" since 2020.

Flipping and remodeling for yourself have different needs and priorities.

That is a good question I did go look at the other posts and very confusing exactly what you are doing. I see a new bulid too.

That end wall & ceiling are a mess.

I agree with Patricia. Get rid of the fireplace and the window above it. Add framing to the ceiling to eliminate that gable looking cutout. Wider baseboard and paint the window trim. Remove carpet and install LVP or real wood.

What you do with this room depends on the ultimate goals you hope to reach. You could keep everything and install wood floors to complement the wood trim. It depends on the architecture of the house.

You have a choice to paint out the trim, but that would be for the whole house.

Thanks everyone. I am not a flipper. I helped my sister by posting her house and then i did build a house but unfortunately went through a divorce and just bought this house!

I am going to rip the carpet out first thing. i love greens, my new build was all a soft white and i dont want that look for this house. i want warmth!

i dont have enough budget to remove the window about the firepalce because i do agree its funky!

You did say this is a DIY project. Adding a window can be expensive. Removing one is not. DIY this and it won't cost any more than what you will spend on paint. Probably less.

Painting the fireplace charcoal or black would modernize it.

Benjamin Moore Deep Caviar or BM Black

Paint the window trim off-white and add sheers and drapes to soften them.

Black chunky curtains rods so use curtain clips to show them off.

A color wash with the wall paint on the ceiling would work to tone down the peak. A bright white paint is more modern. Ben Moore Chantilly Lace. They pair it with White Wisp or Classic Gray for the window trim.

Rough sketch, these are NOT paint colors or drapery colors, just exploring color blocking.

These are paint colors from the Ben Moore site:

What do you think of this color for the fireplace. Rumors, color of the year.

With the burgundy undertone, would work with a lime green sofa.

If you don't want white walls match the color in the Behr inspo photo. Even Better Beige. And if you notice, the ceiling is the same color in their photo.

I color matched the paint for this rendering:

I hope you come back. I don't blame you for being offended by the rude remarks.

As someone who has refloored half the house due plumbing repairs and looking to finally replace carpet in bedrooms, I say do floors first if possible. Get a nice warm neutral that goes with what you have and live with it a while.

Painting baseboards and trim is a big job so think twice about it. You can hide the arched window with huge painting or mirror if it bothers you. curtains can hide much of the window trim. Take time to plan how colors will flow from this room to the adjoining rooms. Learn how the natural light changes through the day and through different seasons. The wood trim might fit your warm vision or you may want a blank canvas of all warm white for a fresh start.
