It looks great! I think the roof is exactly what you were hoping for! I am still in the no shutter camp. Are you feeling like you're missing them? At this point I think garage doors as you stated and a major upgrade to the landscaping are going to make the most impact.

If you were to go with wood doors, I think something that blends with the roof could be nice. However, those carriage doors from DIS are so nice!

Don't worry, the cupola is coming back with a fresh copper top! So is the idea that landscaping takes the place of shutters? We definitely need to figure out some year round shrubs that will work in that very shady area.

Here is the front door area that is looking so blank. forgive the screens, they were painting windows today. I am thinking of painting the front door armory or peppercorn black.

I agree. Shutters are not appropirate but the landscaping needs to be reviewed. Your home needs 'texture'.

I think I'd be looking to develop landscaping that less formal and leaning more towards an English style so it doesn't require constant trimming.

What is behind the pony wall and pillaster at your front door?? Is it a walkway or a planting bed? Classic black door is lovely but I do worry it will just recede into nothing. A blue green is such a lovely compliment to both the alabaster paint color and copper accents.

DIS, there is garden bed behind the pony wall. I do like the color you put on the front door. Do you have a suggestion of what color paint I could sample to get that look? I like the patio area. Maybe a project for another day! I did get a quote on the walkway to the side door though!

Lighting is everything with these colors they can be real chamelons depending on time of day so I would look at them in bright sunlight and in shade when deciding

Another thing that would elevate the look of the house would be to replace the asphalt driveway with cement pavers (tumbled for an old world look).

We did that in our previous house in CA and it completely changed the look of the house. We probably had as much driveway as you do.

I wouldn't spend money on wood-look garage doors, unless you had other wood elements to tie it into, like a wood/stained front door.

I see only one window that could have a proper shutter , double or triple windows should not have shutters , as for the garage I wonder why walnut color ?

You get a Master Plan developed for your landscaping and you implement a bit of it each year. No one can simply wave a wand and have it all done unless you have lots of $$$$. But you have to have a plan to work from and a goal set you want to achieve.

Oh, as for the walnut garage doors, I was thinking I would eventually like to get a walnut front door, so that’s why I was thinking of the garage doors also. I do think after seeing the mockups I like the garage door the same color as the house.

It must be very difficult to get anything to grow behind that wall. I would say take out the wall but then you would have a lonely pillaster and light on the right side of the walkway and nothing on the left unless you built a matching pillaster and light. Or if they could remove the wall and leave the pillaster. I think when and if you ever get to do the patio as shown here if the pony wall remains i would also take it behind that pony wall leaving only areas to plant the tall shrubs or trees to frame the window.

I really like English garden landscaping - when I first saw .your home, that's the landscaping that I thought would look pretty.

I have SW Alabaster on the exterior of my home - and BM Wythe Blue on the front door.

The color does change depending on the light:

I LOVE SW Sea Salt - however, it was too washed out on my front door (the front of my house receives quite a bit of sun). I tried SW Rainwashed - it pulled too blue for some reason?

Agree no shutters and also adding to landscaping. With the garage on the side of house, I don’t think blending in is needed and love the look of a walnut wood grain finish and eventually front door.

Maureen, those door photos are exactly the color I was envisioning. I think I’m leaning toward keeping them alabaster, but those pictures are so pretty I’m confused again! Ha!

DIS, your patio idea is making me want to put a small tranquil fountain in the middle of the bed. Not sure why or if that would be good but it is!

Take the photo of the landscaping design you like best and go to the local garden center (not Lowe’s or Home Depot). Ask them to help you identify the plants and make sure they will thrive in your planting zone. OR - ask if they provide free landscaping design if you buy the plants from them. I moved from one planting zone to another and found my garden place was the most help in assuring my ideas would survive in our southern heat.
Price out the garage doors. I vote for the carriage design in white from Design Interior South. All the colors she suggested for the door are gorgeous and will enhance the front entry. Instead of the walnut garage door, I would go for the copper cupola….

RedRyder, thank you! Yes I definitely need to find a nursery. I haven’t gardened since we moved here with all the other projects. The cupola should be back on soon. They had to order a new weather vane. As for garage doors, I found two that I like and am getting prices! I’ll try to post pictures.

Haven't read th eentire thread but just in case you haven't made a decision about the shutter will advise that you not put them on your house.

The garage doors I’m considering. Both in alabaster same as the house.

Skip the hardware if they are cheap/imitation pieces glued to the garage door.

If the handles are real/solid and screwed through the door, then those will look fine, but skip the fake looking hinges.

A water feature is always so soothing so I can understand why you are envisioning it there.

As far as the garage doors my 2 cents for what they are worth. Your garage is on the side and a good distance from the front of your home where the front door is. or even your side door. To me there is a disconnect simply due to the distance. For this reason I would not do wood because they would just be sitting over there unrelated to anything and draw attention to themselves which isnt a good thing. A garage doesnt need attention drawn to it. My second reasoning is in the beginning you voiced how you wanted to bring copper into the aesthetic. You talked about copper downspouts. Copper on your cupula and other areas. You have the opportunity to do this by adding copper lights, copper on the cupula and other things like copper vents, copper door hardware and knocker etc. Copper and wood are not the most complimentary to each other Vs some of the color suggestions i and others made for the door which are very complimentary and "shine" when used in conjunction with copper. For me I would want my homes architecture to come to the front not my garages.

If you still want to use copper and want to tie it into the black iron hardware of the garage Quoizel Lighting makes a collection of copper lighting called Rue De Royal that has black accents on it as well as the copper. They are made to look like Old gas Charleston carriage lights and are reasonably priced.
