a large framed piece with be more appropriate, better yet, a tall, longer Shelf UNIT to minimize the clutter on your surface. Is it a coffee bar or a liquor cabinet? You definitely need storage, not decor

We had a mirror on a dining room wall for years until a designer that was there to help with new chairs and drapes told me that no one wanted to watch themselves eat. We replaced the mirror with a piece of art and I have never regretted the decision.

Nothing wrong to have mirror in dining room. I usually look at high end designers (RH). They use mirrors in dining rooms.

I rarely like mirrors in DRs and for sure not where this one is planned which is in the kitchen with kitchen stuff on the wall. I suggest you use so art work instead.

I suggest you get a tall cabinet for what seems to be much needed storage.

IMO, mirrors work better in a more formal dining space. I think artwork that you enjoy is a better choice for that more casual spot. Do something in a wood frame to bring over the wood from the table and cabinets. A still life would be pretty.

How about a nice credenza for storage with a framed piece of art above? Looks like you could go wider than the cabinet there. That would be a more practical solution.

Unless you want to watch yourself eating I don't think I would install a mirror. I do like simplynatural's cabinet though. Not only does it look good but it would provide you with extra storage.

It’s hard to tell since we can’t see the whole space if a tall cabinet or wider credenza would make sense. I’m ok with a mirror or art - personal preference. If there is a mirror already in the space then definitely go the art route if you decide a wider cabinet is a good idea. A wider cabinet allows you to put a nice table lamp if sconces are not appealing.

A creative friend made a dining hutch from plain fence boards sanded and stained. It had plate rails or narrow shelves on the top of a sideboard. You could get a simillar hutch or matching sideboard and wall shelves. Then your serving pieces or glassware become your decoration. Stemware in a mirrored backed shelves would bounce light like a mirrored wall without clearly reflecting someone eating.

I vote for the art cuz the mirror doesn't have a pretty back view of the room

Instead of wondering about a mirror, wonder about why you have a garbage can in the dining room (unless it's temporarily there for some reason). Instantly upgrade by hiding the garbage can or getting Rev-a-Shelf for under the sink for a hidden kitchen garbage can. Look for art and a shallow credenza for the wall.

The kitchen is next to it in open concept.
