I'd have to say yes... It would more pleasing to the eye the art work was slightly smaller or the same size as the fire place.

You've got a lot of right angles going in in that corner...visually painting should be more the size of the fireplace.

Window treatment should be hung higher than whatever art you choose.

Would look best if window treatment were same height as niche. Then, art should be hung below top of the niche and should not be wider than the fireplace.

So, a piece of art roughly 2/3 of the height and 2/3 of the width of yours would work.

It's a cool painting but way too big for that space. Keep it but move it to a different wall. A painting over the FP shouldn't be bigger (wider) than the FP opening.

IMO, the art should be no wider than the fireplace and no taller than your TV alcove.

I like art to be no wider than the actual firebox and no higher than door and window frames. Looks like you have a vaulted ceiling, so you should be able to find a wall that will do justice to the art. Tape off the shape of the piece with the center of it 60" above the floor and see if you can find a location where it will still be below the door frame level.

Agree with CDR Design. Also, with all the angles, I'd prefer to see something round over the FP to add some softness. And then...what's going on with the TV niche??? It also is out of scale. Are you planning on built-ins??? If not, the TV needs to be hung on the wall & a higher console underneath is needed. I would prefer built-ins so that the 2 focal points would be united. (I LOVE your artwork though

Hi Layam. I love the art, and would be happy if you could move the TV and then hang this piece in the niche. Is it Aboriginal? Are you in Australia? If that is a possibility, I would suggest either a wood carving over the fireplace, or four small pieces of Aboriginal art that would work with your existing painting (bark works, perhaps?), and have their own interest, without fighting with it. I've drawn in a rough green rectangle to suggest something under the big painting because I think you should play up the green in it -- which you may well already be doing in the rest of the room. If you can't move the TV, I think anyway you should swop the positions of the speakers etc and the screen. Good luck.
