@adivra I wondered the same thing, and everyone is different! What I have found is most people move into homes that may reflect their style in some aspects but not in others, so they start little by little to transform the house into what they really want. In a dramatic case like this, it was very outdated and not their style at all... so we transformed it!!

Here is one similar to yours that has a similar feel.The customer on this project mentioned that she thought this design may have benefited from extending the island like you did - but alas, no space!

We found that the header in my kitchen is non supporting so I could do a redesign. What is the width of the kitchen and the distance between the cabinets and island and between the island and wall. My kitchens width is 11ft 7", thinking my kitchen is much to narrow.

@jendoeshair - The dimensions of the kitchen overall 165" on the fridge/sink wall to the window bay, and 142" on range/hood wall... so similar to yours which you said is 139". We kitchen designers like to measure/design in inches!! :) The island cabinets are 36" wide, and the space between island and sink is 40", leaving 42" between island and walkway where the doors are. Hope that helps!!

The old is my current kitchen!! Not kidding. We took out the overhead cabinet at the bar but otherwise really similar.

Net it looks like they only lost some of the upper cabinet space -- the island is double the size or more with storage, so no work space loss or under cabinet loss (from an eyeball estimate). If their kitchen was like my kitchen prior to reno, there are a bunch of things I could thin after collecting housewares and pots and pans over (coff coff) 30 years... (example question I asked myself: do I REALLY need a quesadilla maker???)

looks great. I love the paneling on the refrigerator. It makes the space look larger. Don't love the stools - even though they are tucked away. I would go with something a little more updated.

The cost? It will probably be different now. So show this to contractors in your area. Hey, Coryadler......Those stools are from the original kitchen. They are fine. This is nitpicking.

I'm sorry to say, I like the 1st kitchen. It feels more cozy, more homey. I think the white kitchen is missing something. Sorry !!

@essence design studio. With the island being 36" deep are the cabinets in the island closes to the sink side 24" deep and the back near the walkway 12" ? Or are they 18" and 18"?
