Good or bad idea - kitchen toekick w/ tile or other durable materials?

We have new white kitchen cabinets and I am sure the white toekicks painted with lacquer will get dents and stains very soon. I'm thinking to cover them with matching tile, so they are much easier to maintain. In the Houzz pictures, I see a few of these alternate materials, but I would expect to see a lot more. Would it be a good idea for design aesthetics, or are there downsides to tile and other durable materials like stainless steel toekicks? Our kitchen island is mocha dark brown, so if we do tile perhaps that would be matching brown tile (matching white tile for the main cabinetry). The floor is vein cut travertine.
