No! I can't return them

When I look at your furniture items, you have two different styles: the lamps, curtains and rug are traditional, the sofas, tables, pillows and vases are more contemporary.

I know you like the lamps, but I think they are not working with your end tables. Something more contemporary, without going too modern would work better (I'll see if I can find you some examples). The pillows and rug are fighting too. You should get a larger rug, that will allow the front legs of your sofas to be on it. That will bring your sitting area together.

I agree with Warner Decor to identify the accent colors. The current room is mostly brown. The accent colors can be introduced in throw pillows or pulled from the art or rug. Starting with the art - the two pieces behind the couch are beautiful representations of woman and motherhood yet they are floating up there. I would relocate them to a smaller wall or find a third item to balance the grouping. Ideally, I love big art pieces (and remember to hang it only 6 inches above the couch). You may hate the couch now but with a little accessorizing, it will look fabulous.

I agree, a little bit of colour will spruce up the area. The couch is a good colour and would look good with most colour combinations. A throw, a big art statement and a rug that ties it all together will look great.

I don't think it's a decor mess at all. But I agree that you need a larger rug - something to break the sofas from the floor. Here's an example of something very neutral but still has texture and interest. I like the tables, like the artwork, but I'm not crazy about the purple accessories. You had this photo in your ideabook - follow it for some ideas on colors that may work better.

I like the sofa. I like your furnishings. My eye is a bit bothered by the pillows, artwork, and rug. I'll play with my software and return with a redesigned room to offer you some ideas.

If you are putting up framed pictures do lots in different shapes and sizes like in this picture.

I am assuming the accessories are yours and those are pieces you do like. Right now it's very monochrome and neutral. I think these can all work, but needs a bit of switching up.

The two small roses(?) on the mantle are out of scale to me, I would add something bigger in the center there, like your pieces of wall art, and add a 3rd to create a focal point and layer them, highlighting the fireplace. Or use the vases there, I think they're really unique, and should be showcased. However, I feel it's too much glass on the glass table and they get lost visually.

Maybe one large piece of art over the sofa on that wall, or two equally sized frames for your current art would work better.

A bit of greenery on the coffee table would liven up the space too, adding a pop of color, like an orchid or succulent dish garden. Easy care and inexpensive.

Your furniture is fine, the decor just needs some tweeking. A nice big mirror (75% of the length of the couch) over the couch to reflect light from the window, a big piece of art over the fireplace, remove the swags from the window treatment and remove rug. That will be a good start for your room. Post more pics after changes! You will have a beautiful room with help from all the talented Houzzers!

I would suggest bringing a pop of color with - for example an accent chair or an ottoman, art piece over the fireplace or and also replacing those pillows may be ??

color suggestions - green or peach or lavender - according to your liking.

Btw those art pieces are really nice that you already have behind the sofa wall. :-) but add another with a pop of color, perhaps. Or a Nice Big Mirror instead of the multiple art pieces.

& I agree start small i.e. with little accents/ accessories.

I used the glass vases on your coffee table as inspiration to bring color into the room. They appear to be a deep purple color on my monitor. Hope this helps get your creative juices flowing.

It's not as painful as you think and just needs TLC. Start by getting a lamp which is low and round and hugs a table more. Then you can add some more pictures to the walls different shapes and sizes and featuring personal scenes. Introduce colour with some lovely decorative cushions. Finally you can bring some more color to the room by a putting some colored vases that pull fine colours from around the room

Love the artwork from Doctornancy. Lamp is fine if you put something tall on the other side of your couch such as a floor lamp. I think the vases on the coffee table are beautiful but just too big....need something low so you can see over them....maybe pretty bowls, baskets or better yet, greenery.

Nice furnishings, but you need contrast. Everything is beige. I would add orange or red to the scheme, perhaps artwork and pillows. Love the vases, but they look fragile there. I'm sorry I'm unable to pull any pictures up to show you examples. Can you show us a pic of an adjoins room so we can get an idea of your style/colors.

The sofas are a nice style and a good neutral color. However, I see several issues.

- Even though the sofas are neutral, I don't think your purple accessories are doing anything to improve the space. I would go to someplace like Home Goods and buy several pillows that you like in various colors and try them out to see what looks best.

- As has been mentioned, the rug is too small. It should be large enough for at least 6" to go under the front legs on all the furniture.

- More scale problems: coffee table accessories are too big, art over the sofa is too small (you need several more or one larger, like illustrated above.

- The furniture arrangement isn't really working very well. There should be 12"-15" between a coffee table and the furniture it relates to. You could pull the sofas closer together - it's OK to have them floating in the middle of the room with space between them and the walls. I can't tell from your photos if this is possible but, I would think about putting them in an L-shape. However, you need to make sure you have walkway access to the space.

- You definitely need to work on the fireplace wall. Once you determine your accent color, you could paint a version of that on that wall. Then you need art and accessories. An arrangement, 1-large or several smaller over the mantle. I think some pedestals of some sort with a decorative accessory or plant on each on either side of the fire place would be nice.

Monochromatic IS a color scheme that is pleasing, OK. The table art gets me thinking have a dual pendant lamp made, which is similar to or of this lantern with 2 identically sized shades being scaled properly, hung above the sofa carefully not to hit anyone in the head as they use the space. Then, framed wall art needs to be concentrated to the right, lowered so that the golden tan shade "kicks off" the framed grouping. Place nothing on either table except food or a book. If there is a window to the right use a lightly textured natural fabric balloon shade that billows and moves slightly in the wind, if there is not a large mirror to reflect the light from the opposite window. We like TV. An over the fireplace, flat screen is a popular feature.

I have this art wall i need to frame and was wondering if i can use it to add color to the room, plus changing the pillows, rug and lamps, not sure how to reorganize the pictures in the room, if it would look nice on the mantle wall or not, help

There is nothing wrong with that furniture :)
you only need to pull it together beginning with the art on the wall ,like already suggested above , get an insert for the fireplace installed and either get a mirror or a large piece of art for above it . the art wall can be of great help to you in finding a colour if you decide to paint the room . You already have purple in your pillows and the art so why not pull that out a little more .

For the art, consider reframing the smaller piece to have the same size frame as the larger (or reframing both to be the same size).

My sister was a commercial artist in NOLA. She had an art scholarship to college and quite a collection of art work. When we visited, it was something like a museum gallery and one can not have so many "moments" of appreciating art around them, to feel at home. You have to think of what speaks to you without the deluge unless you are used to it. BTW,The Lava Rug!!!

Dedicate 1 wall to your sister's art not only it will be a focal point but a conversation piece of pride and appreciation as well

nutri13, since doctornancy seems to have the Photoshop work well in hand--though I may tackle your lonely fireplace wall--let me add a couple of comments. First, you need to bring your curtains in the 21st century.

Now the good: you have some wonderful artwork and you seem to have a theme going with all portraits of women. I would take the blue and yellow ones and frame them separately. Then arrange all five of them in a gallery over the sofa.

And since your furniture and art are all more contemporary, I think you should go contemporary/transitional/eclectic on the rug and lamps and curtains, too.

It could use color!!!!!!!!!! texture... and maybe mirror above sofa,... the pics are too far a part and too small for that space.... table needs flowers... different are rug! and low chairs to create conversation area around the table... some cool art deco pic above mantel would create conversation piece... COLOR AND TEXTURE will soften it up!

There, now, except for the painting which is from the last century, here's an updated wall and floor and window to go with your 21st century furniture.

Color would definitely liven the room up and make it more interesting. I like doctornancy's ideas. I think the vases are too big for the table and might look better on the mantle.
