This Red Hook, NY garage was built with white pine board & batten siding stained with mushroom stain by Haley Paint Company. It has 8 pitch rafters and architectural shingle roof with BP Everest 42 (Fossil Wood Color) shingles. The installed windows are Andersen Silverline double-hung vinyl windows with screens. The garage doors are 9x8 insulated Homestead overhead garage doors with windows by General Doors Corporation. It also has an wood entry door with 9 lite window built by J&N Structures. To top off this garage, we added a B-24 cupola by Creative Cupolas.

This luxurious and spa like custom bathroom took a cold and drafty backroom and converted it to a warm and cozy retreat as part of a guest suite remodel. We insulated the exterior walls and floor as we were adding a radiant flooring system underneath the bespoke patterned tile floor. The achromatic color scheme is offset by a beautiful cream colored wallpaper with silver leaf floral accents. This rich and comforting space will make any guest they receive feel warm and welcome.

Lincoln Farmhouse LEED-H Platinum, Net-Positive Energy OVERVIEW. This LEED Platinum certified modern farmhouse ties into the cultural landscape of Lincoln, Massachusetts - a town known for its rich history, farming traditions, conservation efforts, and visionary architecture. The goal was to design and build a new single family home on 1.8 acres that respects the neighborhood’s agrarian roots, produces more energy than it consumes, and provides the family with flexible spaces to live-play-work-entertain. The resulting 2,800 SF home is proof that families do not need to compromise on style, space or comfort in a highly energy-efficient and healthy home. CONNECTION TO NATURE. The attached garage is ubiquitous in new construction in New England’s cold climate. This home’s barn-inspired garage is intentionally detached from the main dwelling. A covered walkway connects the two structures, creating an intentional connection with the outdoors between auto and home. FUNCTIONAL FLEXIBILITY. With a modest footprint, each space must serve a specific use, but also be flexible for atypical scenarios. The Mudroom serves everyday use for the couple and their children, but is also easy to tidy up to receive guests, eliminating the need for two entries found in most homes. A workspace is conveniently located off the mudroom; it looks out on to the back yard to supervise the children and can be closed off with a sliding door when not in use. The Away Room opens up to the Living Room for everyday use; it can be closed off with its oversized pocket door for secondary use as a guest bedroom with en suite bath. NET POSITIVE ENERGY. The all-electric home consumes 70% less energy than a code-built house, and with measured energy data produces 48% more energy annually than it consumes, making it a 'net positive' home. Average single family home is 52.0 kBtu/sf/yr.) o 10,900 kwh total consumption (8.5 kbtu/ft2 EUI) o 16,200 kwh total production o 5,300 kwh net surplus, equivalent to 15,000-25,000 electric car miles per year. 48% net positive. WATER EFFICIENCY. Plumbing fixtures and water closets consume a mere 60% of the federal standard, while high efficiency appliances such as the dishwasher and clothes washer also reduce consumption rates. FOOD PRODUCTION. After clearing all invasive species, apple, pear, peach and cherry trees were planted. Future plans include blueberry, raspberry and strawberry bushes, along with raised beds for vegetable gardening. The house also offers a below ground root cellar, built outside the home's thermal envelope, to gain the passive benefit of long term energy-free food storage. RESILIENCY. The home's ability to weather unforeseen challenges is predictable - it will fare well. The super-insulated envelope means during a winter storm with power outage, heat loss will be slow - taking days to drop to 60 degrees even with no heat source. During normal conditions, reduced energy consumption plus energy production means shelter from the burden of utility costs. Surplus production can power electric cars & appliances. An early 20th-century colonial now sparkles with energy and feels new again. Everything about this historic home was steeped in tradition - the classic colonial lines, the center entry, the clapboard siding. Our challenge was to give the house a complete renovation while retaining the period feel. Without compromising the home’s architectural integrity, we expanded the kitchen, then added a family room, playroom, exterior terracing, a fully finished basement, and a mudroom for this busy family of five. Energy efficiency was a primary concern so we restored or, when necessary, replaced the original windows, installed brand new HVAC zoning and insulation to increase the home’s overall efficiency. Breathing new life into a well-loved family home is one of our greatest pleasures.

After turning off the highway into the trees on Bull Lake in Northwest Montana you’ll emerge from a tunnel like driveway to find this beautiful concrete log cabin perched within jumping distance of the water. Featuring our structural insulated 8″ Round EverLog concrete logs the home stays nice and warm in the winter and cool in the summer with the added benefit of never having to maintain the logs. The logs were finished in our Golden color while the EverLog Board & Batten siding used for the gables and dormers was finished in our Natural Brown.

To bring in natural light, we added four skylights in the attic—two operable for venting and two fixed. We used spray foam insulation to create a comfortable environment. The combination light and fan in the center is both beautiful and functional. The HVAC equipment is located behind a door, and there additional storage behind the knee walls. We built a seat under the dormer window where the client’s dog likes to perch.

The original house, built in 1989, was designed for the stunning sea views but not for the sun. The owners wanted a warmer, sunny house, with more transparency to enjoy the views from throughout the house. The bottom storey was modified and extended, while most of the upper storey was completely removed and rebuilt. The design utilises part of the original roof form and repeats it to create two roof structures. A flat roofed hallway axis separates them naturally into public and private wings. The use of flat and sloping ceilings creates a richness to the spaces. To maintain privacy while maximising sun, clerestorey windows were used. Double glazing and increased insulation were also added which has created a more comfortable home that maximises the views.

The design for a low energy 4-bed family home with garage and home office took its inspiration from the Arts and Crafts style of the house they demolished while adding a contemporary twist and sustainable low-energy features with a focus on passive energy design. We created for them a split level house with a central staircase that ascends in a series of half-flights below a bank of roof glazing so that the heart of the home could be flooded with daylight. The design uses a palette of natural and traditional materials such as brick and a zinc roof that boasts a large solar PV array. The structure is timber framed with high levels of insulation and air-tightness and the windows are triple-glazed. A mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery ensures high levels of comfort are maintained and energy is conserved.
