The concept revolved around creating inviting communal spaces for the family and guests in addition to sanctuary-like private spaces. Brass fixtures and finishings, a muted color palette, and wood detailing forges a luxurious but grounded space in downtown NYC.

And we wanted to take full advantage of this large bright space and keep in open but with an edge of modern sophistication. The clean lines of white, black and glass were balanced with the softness of the light wood accents. And if you’ve been following along with us for a while you know how we love to mix materials and this room really showcases that. And we have to talk about this piano for a minute – we are OBSESSED with this white, vintage-looking piano and wanted to make it a focal! We love to incorporate pieces that a client already has and this piano was the perfect addition to this room. Using this black & white custom wall mural emphasized piano keys and was just the right touch of WOW without taking away from the rest of the space

Middlefork was retained to update and revitalize this North Shore home to a family of six. The primary goal of this project was to update and expand the home's small, eat-in kitchen. The existing space was gutted and a 1,500-square-foot addition was built to house a gourmet kitchen, connected breakfast room, fireside seating, butler's pantry, and a small office. The family desired nice, timeless spaces that were also durable and family-friendly. As such, great consideration was given to the interior finishes. The 10' kitchen island, for instance, is a solid slab of white velvet quartzite, selected for its ability to withstand mustard, ketchup and finger-paint. There are shorter, walnut extensions off either end of the island that support the children's involvement in meal preparation and crafts. Low-maintenance Atlantic Blue Stone was selected for the perimeter counters. The scope of this phase grew to include re-trimming the front façade and entry to emphasize the Georgian detailing of the home. In addition, the balance of the first floor was gutted; existing plumbing and electrical systems were updated; all windows were replaced; two powder rooms were updated; a low-voltage distribution system for HDTV and audio was added; and, the interior of the home was re-trimmed. What an honor it was to be part of this Classic California Ranch remodel! Originally built in 1940 with the architectural influence of the iconic William Wurster, this beautiful home had a small, dated kitchen that didn't do it justice. The floor plan had become rather compartmentalized due to remodels and additions by the previous homeowners, and the current homeowners wanted to thoughtfully re-design the kitchen paying tribute to its roots, while also gaining more open and functional space. Ultimately, we relocated the kitchen from it's original location to what was an informal dining space. We reconfigured the mud/laundry room, as well as the space adjacent to it and the kitchen, to allow for a more natural flow between kitchen, dining, and living. The space that previously housed the kitchen was turned into a gallery, where the homeowners can sit and enjoy their morning coffee while viewing the golf course. In the gallery, the original brick from the exterior patio was uncovered under many layers of flooring, and the contractor was able to restore the brick and re-install it for the gallery floor, creating a space that truly emphasizes the leisurely, laid back California lifestyle that blends the indoor and outdoor spaces that the architecture of William Wurster so beautifully emphasizes.

This Industrial Loft Sofa collection consists of armchair, foot rest, rocking armchair, 2 or 3 seats sofa and chaise lounge. Main characteristic of this collection lies in its emphasized spherical side of each piece in the collection, which is made from solid wood, additional graced with widened parts in the back or seat. These parts are made from knotted segments of tree trunk, where rings have spiral form and resemble human eye, hence the name of the whole collection. Also, ‘eye’ gives exceptional ergonomics to each piece, as the upholstered part follows their shape. Additional aesthetics and 3 D effect can be seen in slightly conical legs which form a conical shape. Asymmetrical, hand-made wooden buttons with emphasized thread in different color, make a tasteful detail on the buttons. Dimensions: width 75cm, length 96cm, height 97 cm, weight 23.5 kg

A modern screen porch beautifully links this Wellesley home to its Garden. Extending overhangs that are clad in red cedar emphasize the indoor – outdoor connection and keep direct sun out of the interior. The grey granite floor pavers extend seamlessly from the inside to the outside. A custom designed steel truss with stainless steel cable supports the roof. Carrying the motif of less is more, this remodel emphasized the qualities this Parisian-styled home had with a modern open floor plan. Working through different design studies with the client, we identified the optimum layout and created space for an additional bedroom. Fusing old world details with contemporary living, we ensured the rehabilitation pays homage to its original detailing while expressing a bold narrative, delicately balanced within the original structural framework. Careful detailing of the structural elements ensured the work could proceed without affecting the unit below. Completed in 2014, this home now offers its young family the full urban experience of stylish San Francisco living.
