This kitchen had not been renovated since the salt box colonial house was built in the 1960’s. The new owner felt it was time for a complete refresh with some traditional details and adding in the owner’s contemporary tastes. At initial observation, we determined the house had good bones; including high ceilings and abundant natural light from a double-hung window and three skylights overhead recently installed by our client. Mixing the homeowners desires required the skillful eyes of Cathy and Ed from Renovisions. The original kitchen had dark stained, worn cabinets, in-adequate lighting and a non-functional coat closet off the kitchen space. In order to achieve a true transitional look, Renovisions incorporated classic details with subtle, simple and cleaner line touches. For example, the backsplash mix of honed and polished 2” x 3” stone-look subway tile is outlined in brushed stainless steel strips creating an edgy feel, especially at the niche above the range. Removing the existing wall that shared the coat closet opened up the kitchen to allow adding an island for seating and entertaining guests. We chose natural maple, shaker style flat panel cabinetry with longer stainless steel pulls instead of knobs, keeping in line with the clients desire for a sleeker design. This kitchen had to be gutted to accommodate the new layout featuring an island with pull-out trash and recycling and deeper drawers for utensils. Spatial constraints were top of mind and incorporating a convection microwave above the slide-in range made the most sense. Our client was thrilled with the ability to bake, broil and microwave from GE’s advantium oven – how convenient! A custom pull-out cabinet was built for his extensive array of spices and oils. The sink base cabinet provides plenty of area for the large rectangular stainless steel sink, single-lever multi-sprayer faucet and matching filtered water dispenser faucet. The natural, yet sleek green soapstone countertop with distinct white veining created a dynamic visual and principal focal point for the now open space. While oak wood flooring existed in the entire first floor, as an added element of color and interest we installed multi-color slate-look porcelain tiles in the kitchen area. We also installed a fully programmable floor heating system for those chilly New England days. Overall, out client was thrilled with his Mission Transition.

Complete Gut renovation that included removal and relocating of laundry room to basement. The existing kitchen layout and size was not adequate for this home. We opened up the space removed closets, walls and added windows. we gave this kitchen the ultimate appliance package two Bosch dishwashers, Fisher & Paykel Single Drawer Multi-Temperature Refrigerator/Freezer , 36" Thermador Range top, Sharpe Built In microwave. The plumbing Finish was done in Polished Nickel to match the hardware and light fixtures. The floor was done with European Oak with All Natural Hard-Wax Oil. This beautiful wood texture is coarse and characterized by open pores. The Counter tops from Caesarstone and to bring out the color in the wood floor we used a 4" X 12 " Marble Subway tile from Walker Zanger.

Our client's original kitchen lacked adequate storage and counter space. To create a more open flow from the living room to the kitchen, we decided to remove some walls and cabinets over the island, replacing with a ceiling-mount vent hood. We also incorporated an L-shaped counter along the north facing wall to maximize counter space and increase the amount of storage. The combination of custom gray distressed wood cabinetry and sparkling white quartzite countertops create a stunning atmosphere in this previously lackluster kitchen.

Shades of taupe and grey were used, while sparkly countertops, tile, cabinet knobs and pendant lights added simple glamour. This farmhouse designed by our Virginia interior design studio showcases custom, traditional style with modern accents. The laundry room was given an interesting interplay of patterns and texture with a grey mosaic tile backsplash and printed tiled flooring. The dark cabinetry provides adequate storage and style. All the bathrooms are bathed in light palettes with hints of coastal color, while the mudroom features a grey and wood palette with practical built-in cabinets and cubbies. This guest bathroom designed by our Pasadena studio showcases a Spanish colonial look. We maximized space by clubbing the tub and shower and enclosed it with glass to give an open feel. The vanity features double sinks and mirrors with adequate storage, and the decorative floor is the visual highlight of the space.

Set in the charming neighborhood of Wedgwood, this Cape Cod-style home needed a major update to satisfy our client's lifestyle needs. The living room, dining room, and kitchen were all separated, making it hard for our clients to carry out day-to-day life with small kids or adequately entertain. Our client also loved to cook for her family, so having a large open concept kitchen where she could cook, keep tabs on the kids, and entertain simultaneously was very important. To accommodate those needs, we bumped out the back and side of the house and eliminated all the walls in the home's communal areas. Adding on to the back of the house also created space in the basement where they could add a separate entrance and mudroom. We wanted to make sure to blend the character of this home with the client's love for color, modern flare, and updated finishes. So we decided to keep the original fireplace and give it a fresh look with tile, add new hardwood in a lighter stain to match the existing and bring in pops of color through the kitchen cabinets and furnishings. New windows, siding, and a fresh coat of paint were added to give this home the curbside appeal it deserved. In the second phase of this remodel, we transformed the basement bathroom and storage room into a primary suite. With the addition of baby number three, our clients wanted to create a retreat they could call their own. Bringing in soft, muted tones made their bedroom feel calm and collected, a relaxing place to land after a busy day. With our client’s love of patterned tile, we decided to go a little bolder in the bathroom with the flooring and vanity wall. Adding the marble in the shower and on the countertop helped balance the bold tile choices and keep both spaces feeling cohesive.

This dining room turned playroom was designed for an energetic 2 year old. Our top priorities were maximizing a small space, providing adequate storage for toys and books and developing a design aesthetic that would be both inviting to a two year old and also flow beautifully from the adjacent living room and kitchen. We chose a warm, neutral wall color and accented it with pops of orangey red and vivid blues. Textures and patterns were incorporated to create playful visual interest. A sensory wall was added to offer stimulating play and beloved artwork was installed to add a touch of grown up sophisticated. An IKEA cabinet was painted a bold red and offers plenty of organized hidden storage. New knobs by Anthropologie were added to give the cabinet a custom feel. Large pillows in John Robshaw fabric offer a soft place to rest and the modern eiffel table and clear panton chairs become the epicenter for art, puzzles and snacks. This room is bursting with bright, bold color and a center for fun childhood experience. It was a joy to design for a very special Seattle family!

This Tuscan style home located in Newport Beach, CA was missing the focal point of entry which was the entry door. It was incorrectly fitted with a Spanish Colonial style by the builder which was made of a less-than-adequate quality thus it became unusable after only a few years of use. The home itself had a rich Tuscan architectural flavor that was begging for an authentically designed entry door that would bring it justice. After extensive research of real Tuscan historical homes, our design team came up with a wonderful entry door design that would complement the home's intended style. The main focus was to maintain that old world charm of historic Tuscan style homes with heavily aged wooden doors and authentically handmade hardware that would not only be decorative but functional. The entry door was beautifully crafted by our finish carpenters in reclaimed oak on the exterior and smooth, clear alder on the inside to complement the interior of the home just as well as the exterior. Finishing the exterior of the door in a dark stain tied in well with the bronze lanterns and iron work throughout the home's exterior. Custom designed pull rings were hand-forged and are unique to this particular entry door project. This project is a new 5,900 sf. primary residence for a couple with three children. The site is slightly elevated above the residential street and enjoys winter views of the Potomac River. The family’s requirements included five bedrooms, five full baths, a powder room, family room, dining room, eat-in kitchen, walk-in pantry, mudroom, lower level recreation room, exercise room, media room and numerous storage spaces. Also included was the request for an outdoor terrace and adequate outdoor storage, including provision for the storage of bikes and kayaks. The family needed a home that would have two entrances, the primary entrance, and a mudroom entry that would provide generous storage spaces for the family’s active lifestyle. Due to the small lot size, the challenge was to accommodate the family’s requirements, while remaining sympathetic to the scale of neighboring homes. The residence employs a “T” shaped plan to aid in minimizing the massing visible from the street, while organizing interior spaces around a private outdoor terrace space accessible from the living and dining spaces. A generous front porch and a gambrel roof diminish the home’s scale, providing a welcoming view along the street front. A path along the right side of the residence leads to the family entrance and a small outbuilding that provides ready access to the bikes and kayaks while shielding the rear terrace from view of neighboring homes. The two entrances join a central stair hall that leads to the eat-in kitchen overlooking the great room. Window seats and a custom built banquette provide gathering spaces, while the French doors connect the great room to the terrace where the arbor transitions to the garden. A first floor guest suite, separate from the family areas of the home, affords privacy for both guests and hosts alike. The second floor Master Suite enjoys views of the Potomac River through a second floor arched balcony visible from the front. The exterior is composed of a board and batten first floor with a cedar shingled second floor and gambrel roof. These two contrasting materials and the inclusion of a partially recessed front porch contribute to the perceived diminution of the home’s scale relative to its smaller neighbors. This project included a Patio Cover Addition, Outdoor Kitchen, Gas-Burning Fireplace, and Stamped Concrete walking surface with a custom pattern. The attention is immediately drawn to the Ledgestone fire place with a rustic cedar mantel. The Ledgestone flows continuously throughout the space, found on the base of the patio columns and outdoor kitchen. The kitchen sparkles with Stainless Steel appliances, containing storage compartments, refrigerator, and grill. Topped with Venetian Gold Granite, this cooking space provides ample counter space that is easily maintained. The overall appeal of this Outdoor Living area remains beautifully traditional, with cedar-trimmed columns and beams. Also, though it has custom features, this addition is built to look original to the home with matching paint, shingles, gutters, and framing materials. The elaborate, pre-stained Tongue and Groove ceiling is quite an attractive feature to this patio cover, and the recessed lighting illuminates the evening. The fans provide adequate air-flow and the sound system keeps the patio atmosphere in tune.
