Set in the charming neighborhood of Wedgwood, this Cape Cod-style home needed a major update to satisfy our client's lifestyle needs. The living room, dining room, and kitchen were all separated, making it hard for our clients to carry out day-to-day life with small kids or adequately entertain. Our client also loved to cook for her family, so having a large open concept kitchen where she could cook, keep tabs on the kids, and entertain simultaneously was very important. To accommodate those needs, we bumped out the back and side of the house and eliminated all the walls in the home's communal areas. Adding on to the back of the house also created space in the basement where they could add a separate entrance and mudroom. We wanted to make sure to blend the character of this home with the client's love for color, modern flare, and updated finishes. So we decided to keep the original fireplace and give it a fresh look with tile, add new hardwood in a lighter stain to match the existing and bring in pops of color through the kitchen cabinets and furnishings. New windows, siding, and a fresh coat of paint were added to give this home the curbside appeal it deserved. In the second phase of this remodel, we transformed the basement bathroom and storage room into a primary suite. With the addition of baby number three, our clients wanted to create a retreat they could call their own. Bringing in soft, muted tones made their bedroom feel calm and collected, a relaxing place to land after a busy day. With our client’s love of patterned tile, we decided to go a little bolder in the bathroom with the flooring and vanity wall. Adding the marble in the shower and on the countertop helped balance the bold tile choices and keep both spaces feeling cohesive.

The client had a finished basement space that was not functioning for the entire family. He spent a lot of time in his gym, which was not large enough to accommodate all his equipment and did not offer adequate space for aerobic activities. To appeal to the client's entertaining habits, a bar, gaming area, and proper theater screen needed to be added. There were some ceiling and lolly column restraints that would play a significant role in the layout of our new design, but the Gramophone Team was able to create a space in which every detail appeared to be there from the beginning. The laundry room was given an interesting interplay of patterns and texture with a grey mosaic tile backsplash and printed tiled flooring. The dark cabinetry provides adequate storage and style. All the bathrooms are bathed in light palettes with hints of coastal color, while the mudroom features a grey and wood palette with practical built-in cabinets and cubbies. Our client's original kitchen lacked adequate storage and counter space. To create a more open flow from the living room to the kitchen, we decided to remove some walls and cabinets over the island, replacing with a ceiling-mount vent hood. We also incorporated an L-shaped counter along the north facing wall to maximize counter space and increase the amount of storage. The combination of custom gray distressed wood cabinetry and sparkling white quartzite countertops create a stunning atmosphere in this previously lackluster kitchen.

Located in, Summit Park, Park City UT lies one of the most efficient houses in the country. The Summit Haus – designed and built by Chris Price of PCD+B, is an exploration in design and construction of advanced high performance housing. Seeing a rising demand for sustainable housing along with rising Carbon emissions leading to global warming, this house strives to show that sensible, good design can create spaces adequate for today’s housing demands while adhering to strict standards. The house was designed to meet the very rigid Passiv House rating system – 90% more efficient than a typical home in the area. The house itself was intended to nestle neatly into the 45 degree sloped site and to take full advantage of the limited solar access and views. The views range from short, highly wooded views to a long corridor out towards the Uinta Mountain range towards the east. The house was designed and built based off Passiv Haus standards, and the framing and ventilation became critical elements to maintain such minimal energy requirements. Zola triple-pane, tilt-and-turn Thermo uPVC windows contribute substantially to the home’s energy efficiency, and takes advantage of the beautiful surrounding of the location, including forrest views from the deck off of the kitchen. Elegant master bedroom photo in Miami

This master bath in a mid century modern home nestled in the woods of the Southern Willamette valley in Oregon had a small bath and closet combination room that was not adequate for today's lifestyle. The door accesses an outdoor hot tub and the clients wanted a barrier free shower. The heated tile floor makes the bath comfortable in colder seasons. Loveall Photography

This project is a new 5,900 sf. primary residence for a couple with three children. The site is slightly elevated above the residential street and enjoys winter views of the Potomac River. The family’s requirements included five bedrooms, five full baths, a powder room, family room, dining room, eat-in kitchen, walk-in pantry, mudroom, lower level recreation room, exercise room, media room and numerous storage spaces. Also included was the request for an outdoor terrace and adequate outdoor storage, including provision for the storage of bikes and kayaks. The family needed a home that would have two entrances, the primary entrance, and a mudroom entry that would provide generous storage spaces for the family’s active lifestyle. Due to the small lot size, the challenge was to accommodate the family’s requirements, while remaining sympathetic to the scale of neighboring homes. The residence employs a “T” shaped plan to aid in minimizing the massing visible from the street, while organizing interior spaces around a private outdoor terrace space accessible from the living and dining spaces. A generous front porch and a gambrel roof diminish the home’s scale, providing a welcoming view along the street front. A path along the right side of the residence leads to the family entrance and a small outbuilding that provides ready access to the bikes and kayaks while shielding the rear terrace from view of neighboring homes. The two entrances join a central stair hall that leads to the eat-in kitchen overlooking the great room. Window seats and a custom built banquette provide gathering spaces, while the French doors connect the great room to the terrace where the arbor transitions to the garden. A first floor guest suite, separate from the family areas of the home, affords privacy for both guests and hosts alike. The second floor Master Suite enjoys views of the Potomac River through a second floor arched balcony visible from the front. The exterior is composed of a board and batten first floor with a cedar shingled second floor and gambrel roof. These two contrasting materials and the inclusion of a partially recessed front porch contribute to the perceived diminution of the home’s scale relative to its smaller neighbors. It took a year and twelve revisions before this design was finalized. It makes very good use of the space while providing an aesthetically pleasing appearance. The 5’ double doors on the gable end are adequate for a lawn tractor, ATV, and/or firewood storage. With the addition of a workbench and cabinet space, the interior 8×10 can easily be converted into a potting area or workshop.

This bathroom remodel began with relocating the previously existing water feed lines to the new shower valve location. What we see here is the finished product, a beautiful 48" x 72" shower. The tile on both the walls and floor of the shower is ceramic Romina Series Grey. Also in the shower is a 24" stand alone teak bench with a shelf and two grab bars for adequate safety. The shower door is a 72" a 80" frameless glass enclosure with 3/8" thick clear glass. It has been coated in an Enduroshield coating that cuts down on 90% of the cleaning. All of the hardware in the bathroom are brushed nickel finished.

This home office is the perfect addition to a master bedroom. It provides a quiet area to read and enjoy a cup of coffee away from the open living spaces. Custom built ceiling shelving includes under-mounted LED lights providing adequate reading light.
