HNA Hardscape Project Award Winner Permeable Paradise Grand Island, Nebraska Grindstone Hardscapes The goal was to create a maintenance-free system with extreme curb appeal for these homeowners when installing their new driveway, patio, and front entrance. The entire project is permeable and heated, including the front steps. The three piece paver used Gascony Tan for the field to match the home and Brookestone slate for accents. The field was laid at a 45 degree angle to the house, a solution to the road not being square to any entrance on the driveway or walk. The pavers never see the snow or ice on them. Both are drained through the joints as soon as touching the surface. The heat cord had to be fastened to wire mesh on top of the rock base to hold it in place, and then the bedding layer was screeded over it. Traditional paver edging/grid was used on the driveway as an edge restraint, with a decorative concrete curb being laid over top of it, to increase strength and tie it in with the landscapes on the property. Each entrance to the circle drive and to the front door is announced by custom columns built on each side. There are 9 columns total. Each includes four LED low voltage lights for nighttime accent, and one holds a built in mailbox and package delivery shelf. All mail and packages can be picked up right from the car window.

Molly Maguire Landscape Architecture Wood fencing and columns were designed for entry announcement, and screening the house and yard from the adjacent private roadway. Fencing was designed for vines to softly accent.

Rosenberg Kolb Architects is proud to announce our renovation of a 1747 timber frame house on Nantucket Island, completed in 2011. The first historic renovation project in Nantucket to receive LEED Gold status. The project was given a Grand Award by Eco Home Magazine in July, 2011. The project included: Restructuring the foundations to align and stabilize the structure in addition to providing for a new insulated crawl space; A 260 square foot addition for a kitchen, bath, and new entry; New cedar shingles, roof shingles, and restored historic windows; The house met the strict regulations of Nantucket's Historic District. On the inside, LEED Gold certification was met through: High R-value insulation and reduced air leakage; High efficiency heating, air conditioning, plumbing fixtures, and appliances; Low-emission paints and finishes as well as a clay wall finish; Using reclaimed materials from the original house and other sites. Inspiration for an entryway remodel

Client wanted to update her Bathroom, change the Tub to a Stall Shower, make it a little Bigger & Improve much needed organized Storage Space. I am Proud to Announce, that this jewel of a small apartment co-op bath just: "Won my Fifth National Award!" Many of my Winning Awards for my "State of the Art Bathrooms", most of them were huge. It is far harder to Create a Beautiful Bathroom that is 5' x 6" and not make it look cluttered, where the client can retreat, from their stress of the day. Even though small, this bath has many of the features of my large bathrooms. The judges commented, that they couldn't believe how many things, I had put in this bath & it wasn't cluttered at all. Every inch counts! Firstly, the heavy cast iron tub was probably 60-70 years old. When we removed it, the back wall collapsed as they obviously used inferior products back then, behind the tile, which rotted. Then we removed the old vanity & found a heater under it, which had to be removed to accomodate the wall hung vanity. To make matters worse , when you sat on the commode your knees practically hit the opposite wall & the ceiling was only 7' instead of 8' high which made you feel very claustrophobic. The first thing we did, was move the wall across from the vanity back 1' taking the space from the linen closet and Master Bedroom Closet, which made all the difference in the world. Now we were able to move the bath door back, so you had more room on the commode and we were able to put a larger low rise commode & a wall to block it from the foyer. It the client had agreed, I would have mirrored the ceiling to give the illusion of a much taller & larger space! We deliberately selected soft light colors, recessed cabinets to increase the much needed storage for her bathroom items. She actually has 25+ times the storage space, organized with the 2 draws in the wall hung vanity, mirrored inside/out recessed medicine & storage cabinet, with de-foggers, GFI plugs, & even a soft night light that emanates from an opening at the bottom of the medicine cabinet, that eliminates you turning on a bright light and waking you up, in the middle of the night! The goal of this remodel's design began with the homeowners dream to restore her cherished 1908 home to its vintage glory, updating it with Art Deco inspired touches while maintaining its original character and charm. In the kitchen; marble counters, unlacquered brass hardware, vintage mirrors, and a library ladder were used to accomplish the old meets new aesthetic. A custom hood with hand painted gold detail and a Lacanche French range are centerpieces of this timeless black and white kitchen. The show stopping powder room off the kitchen is a bright pop of color featuring Schumacher's Chiang Mai Dragon print wallpaper, vintage swan faucet, and a turquoise Cyan Design chandelier installed on the metallic gold ceiling.
