At this residence, we created a small flagstone patio and backyard fire area nestled in the corner of their property. A pondless water feature starts behind the fire pit. Its first set of falls cascade down toward the fire and the viewers, then the stream winds its way around the boulders that contain the fire area. The final cascade faces the house and outdoor kitchen, making the feature visible and audible from all outdoor living areas. Plantings provide seasonal color and screening from the golf course without blocking the broader view.

The front of this beauty is set off by the water in the background. The customer wanted a low maintenance landscape so small retaining walls were built and a Zorro Zoysia lawn installed.

To enhance privacy for the small 50’ wide by 46’ deep backyard, mature columnar cedars were planted on three sides to replace the existing smaller foliage. The three LED pool lights, along with the generous light from the pergola and dining deck, provide all the illumination that’s needed for an evening outdoors.

This radiused rock wall houses a gorgeous gas fire feature with accompanying radiused trellis backed by 16' arborvitae, creating a real sense of privacy.

It’s amazing what a garden can do to turn a small space from bland to beautiful! Our redesign included grey fiberglass and aqua blue ceramic pots filled with arborvitaes, knockout roses, boxwoods, gold sweetflag grasses, and a red ‘Bloodgood’ Japanese maple. A centerpiece of this garden is the Restoration Hardware zinc fountain. All of the planters also contain low-voltage landscape lighting for a dramatic nighttime effect.

A raised stone terrace with stone steps is paved in Idaho Gold flagstone. The upper terrace is topped with a white pergola.

We reimagined this outdoor space in Woodhaven by framing the pool with Unilock pavers, introducing a stylish Moda fireplace, and planting arborvitaes for privacy and softness.

We were selected to create the gardens at the Washington Design House benefiting Children’s Hospital in Washington DC.
Donating our time, and construction costs, we transformed a rundown and overgrown garden into a truly magical series of outdoor spaces. Since it was a “design house”, we decided to have some fun with our work, introducing a series of pea gravel “splashes” in the pond garden, enlivening the pool garden with brightly colored cushions and umbrellas, and giving the “dance floor” garden structure and interest by using Emerald Green Arborvitae columns and a mass planting of Rhododendron Roseum Elegance.
