Inspiration for a transitional dark wood floor and brown floor dining room remodel in DC Metro with blue walls

The newly remodeled family room has new hardwood floors and French doors which lead out to a large backyard patio. A new built-in entertainment center with bookshelves and storage was added. The custom upholstered armchairs and sofa are in cream colors with patterned pillows, lending to the nautical beach theme. A blue accent wall lends to the blue hues throughout the home. A custom cocktail table and side tables were designed specifically for this home. The new open floor plan makes the family room visible from the entry and open to the kitchen. The backside of the fireplace has a hint to the nautical theme with white painted wood and new nickel fireplace doors. A commissioned painting hangs near the French doors; it coordinates with the mural painted in the powder room. Everyone deserves to end the day in a comfortable, tranquil home. And for those with children, it can seem impossible to reconcile the challenges of family life with the need to have a well-designed space. Our client—a financial executive and her family of four—had not considered a design makeover since moving into their apartment, which was more than ten years ago. So when she reached out to Decor Aid, she asked us to modernize and brighten her home, in addition to creating a space for her family to hang out and relax. The apartment originally featured sunflower-yellow walls and a set of brown suede living room furniture, all of which significantly darkened the space. The living room also did not have sufficient seating options, so the client was improvising seating arrangements when guests would come over. With no outward facing windows, the living room received little natural light, and so we began the redesign by painting the walls a classic grey, and adding white crown molding. As a pathway from the front door to the kitchen, the living room functions as a high-traffic area of the home. So we sourced a geometric indoor-outdoor area rug, and established a layout that’s easy to walk through. We also sourced a coffee table from Serena & Lily. Our client has teenage twins, and so we sourced a sturdy sectional couch from Restoration Hardware, and placed it in a corner which was previously being underused. We hired an electrician to hide all of the cables leading to the media console, and added custom window treatments. In the kitchen, we painted the cabinets a semi-gloss white, and added slate flooring, for a clean, crisp, modern look to match the living room. The finishing touches included a set of geometric table objects, comfortable throw rugs, and plush high-shine pillows. The final result is a fully functional living room for this family of four.

Inspiration for a contemporary kids' room remodel in Orlando

This is the dining room, I wanted this room to make a statement. The paneling design on the wall was already white, so I decided to paint the walls needlepoint navy. I dressed the window with a white custom drapery and bronze drapery rod. I used a live edge table with white dining chairs. The rug was my inspirational piece for this room, it just brought everything together. The one piece that the customer had to have was cotton, so I accessorized the table with a vase with cotton and brought in a blue table runner and some white dishes.

Calm, clean and quiet was what these empty-nesters asked for when they left the home they raised their family in.

The remodel includes new semi-custom cabinetry with smart interior conveniences, pull-out hanging racks, open shelving, a farmhouse sink, and striking matte black quartz countertops with marble veining. We added gold hardware for warmth and contrast, installed a large-capacity front-loading GE washer and dryer, and created ample storage throughout. To make the room even more functional for everyday living, we also incorporated a dedicated feeding station for her pet.

Based on other life priorities, not all of our work with clients happens at once. When we first met, we pulled up their carpet and installed hardy laminate flooring, along with new baseboards, interior doors and painting. A year later we cosmetically remodeled the kitchen installing new countertops, painting the cabinets and installing new fittings, hardware and a backsplash. Then a few years later the big game changer for the interior came when we updated their furnishings in the living room and family room, and remodeled their living room fireplace. Three apartments were combined to create this 7 room home in Manhattan's West Village for a young couple and their three small girls. A kids' wing boasts a colorful playroom, a butterfly-themed bedroom, and a bath. The parents' wing includes a home office for two (which also doubles as a guest room), two walk-in closets, a master bedroom & bath. A family room leads to a gracious living/dining room for formal entertaining. A large eat-in kitchen and laundry room complete the space. The Living Room is one of the first rooms seen right off the entry so the interior design demanded something unique. Strong color was added and curves in furnishings and patterns to offset all the rectangular shapes so the room is softer. This room sets the stage for what is to come throughout. Not your typical "only neutral colors" seen in most Modern Farmhouse architecture, they are there, but there is a layer of specifically selected colors added. The color palette moves you through the entire house utilizing different percentages of selected colors so each room feels like its own design but holds together with all other rooms.
