Design ideas for a mid-sized traditional partial sun front yard brick formal garden in Chicago.

When you have the benefit of generous acreage outside your home, you can truly make magic, as is evidenced in this stunning rear courtyard. A moss embraced vintage brock path way is bordered by mature boxwoods on both sides, illuminated by handcrafted copper outdoor lighting by Outdoor Lighting Perspectives. The rear brick-seating wall features a combination of down lights and up lights for stunning wall wash effects.

This garden is in full bloom! We planted Hydrangea 'Little Lime', Sedge 'Gold Strike' and a variety of boxwoods. They make it a low-maintenance and elegant combo.

Arced lines and a bronze garden fountain soften the geometry of the formal landscape, while adding the relaxing sounds of water to the classic setting.
A focal point among the intersecting stone pathways and green borders, the garden fountain is an unexpected yet fitting addition. Water features and statuary are often incorporated into landscapes inspired by French parterre gardens to help anchor the design and add interest.

Two cement planters mirror one another at the garden's entrance and is filled with Caladiums, Coleus, and Creeping Jenny. Trimmed boxwood hedges frame the pedestal.

European chateau style home with french-inspired landscape design. Boasts classic finials and garden decor. Synthetic lawn bordered with red brick and accented by boxwood hedges. Outdoor seating on flagstone patio. An elegant oasis of European tranquility.

A formal Green Mountain boxwood hedge backs up a mixed perennial border in late may of this front yard space. A iron urn has seasonal annual color recently installed.

This Foyer had to be a show stopper. It's the first thing you see when you enter this custom built, 12,000 square foot home. The marble border in the foyer was made to custom fit this space, with 3 different colors of marble, perfectly complementing the carrara tile. The gray painted and applied moulding clad walls complement the hand applied silver leaf ceiling. The Aerin Lauder Chandelier from Circa lighting shines beautifully in this space. There is no detail left undone in this Foyer, we think it makes a lasting impression!

This front yard had to also act as a clients back yard. The existing back yard is a ravine, so there is little room to functionally use it. This created a design element to create a sense of space/privacy while also allowing the Mid Century Modern Architecture to shine through. (and keep the feel of a front yard)
We used concrete walls to break up the rooms, and guide people into the front entrance. We added IPE details on the wall and planters to soften the concrete, and Ore Inc aluminum containers with a rust finish to frame the entrance. The Aspen trees break the horizontal plane and are lit up at night, further defining the front yard. All the trees are on color lights and have the ability to change at the click of a button for both holidays, and seasonal accents. The slate chip beds keep the bed lines clean and clearly define the planting ares versus the lawn areas. The walkway is one monolithic pour that mimics the look of large scale pavers, with the added function of smooth,set-in-place, concrete.
