This bright open-concept kitchen brings a warmth to this house which makes it feel like a home. The all-white palette could feel cold, but in this kitchen, it is paired perfectly with light oak flooring, rift cut oak shelves, and black accents to make the space feel warm and inviting. Black candelabra wall sconces add an ambience to the space and compliment the large pendants over the island. The classic white subway tile, decorative hood fan, and shaker cabinets, complete with crown molding, bring a timelessness to the kitchen. A deep farmhouse style sink and black industrial faucet are central to the island, perfect for staying connected with guests and family while working in the kitchen. With ample counter space and deep drawers on either side of the gas range, this kitchen is not only beautiful but perfect for preparing a home cooked meal.
The combination of warm woods, industrial-style fixtures, a farm sink, and a few cottage-inspired furniture pieces make this space feel lived-in, yet with an elegance that anyone would be proud to call home.

This breathtaking whole-home renovation is a masterclass in balancing raw, natural materials with refined coastal elegance. Reclaimed wood, fieldstone, linen, cane, and soft blue hues weave a cohesive story from the soaring great room all the way up to the nursery — creating a home that feels both grounded in the land and kissed by the sea.
Great Room
The emotional heart of the home is a spectacular great room anchored by a floor-to-ceiling fieldstone fireplace with a hand-hewn reclaimed wood beam mantel and a herringbone brick firebox. Flanking the fireplace are generous built-in white shelving units with linen-backed interiors, beautifully styled with blue-and-white chinoiserie, ceramic vessels, and coastal curiosities.
Overhead, a dramatic cathedral ceiling with exposed reclaimed wood trusses in a king-post configuration draws the eye upward and gives the space an almost barn-like grandeur — softened immediately by the warmth of crisp white walls and abundant natural light pouring in through a wall of French doors. Those doors open to a deck overlooking mature woodland, blurring the boundary between inside and out.
The furnishings strike a balance that feels lived-in and luxurious at once. Two generous cream linen sofas face each other across a soft blue-gray upholstered square ottoman, while a pair of cognac saddle-leather swivel chairs add warmth and contrast. A stone pedestal side table, a rattan tray, and an oversized abstract seascape canvas above the mantel complete a room that is effortlessly inviting.
Kitchen & Dining
The open-plan kitchen and dining space flows seamlessly from the great room, united by the same reclaimed beam ceiling and wide-plank light oak hardwood floors. The kitchen itself is a dream: custom white inset cabinetry with brushed nickel hardware surrounds a showstopping island with a pale blue-gray painted base and a warm natural butcher block top — a choice that brings organic texture and approachability to an otherwise polished space.
A handmade zellige-style light blue brick backsplash adds subtle artisanal character behind a professional-grade six-burner gas range framed by a tailored white custom range hood. Open glass shelves nearby display a curated collection of blue-and-white chinoiserie vases, adding personality and a collected feel. Clear glass-and-nickel pendant lanterns hang over the island, while a stunning crystal rod linear chandelier marks the dining area — a glamorous counterpoint to all the rustic texture in the room.
Cane-back counter stools and a matching set of cane dining chairs in white keep the palette light, fresh, and connected to the home's coastal character. A stone arch passageway between the kitchen and adjacent rooms adds architectural drama and reinforces the home's commitment to natural materiality.
Staircase & Entry
The staircase is a design moment in its own right. A classic woven runner in gray with a crisp navy border brings pattern and polish to the oak treads, while a built-in window seat with a navy cushion at the landing creates a charming reading nook. A nautical-inspired abstract canvas on the entry wall sets the tonal palette for the upper level.
Primary Bedroom
Upstairs, the primary bedroom is a soft, serene retreat wrapped in a soothing dusty blue — walls and ceiling painted the same tranquil tone for an enveloping, cocoon-like effect. A white linen platform bed with an upholstered headboard sits beneath a wide horizontal panoramic cloud painting in a warm wood frame, evoking an open sky. The nightstands — in a soft white with brass ring pulls — are paired with ribbed ceramic table lamps that echo the room's quiet coastal sensibility.
Blue-and-white gingham curtains on a brass rod, a soft white textured carpet, a cream leather recliner, and a slim brass reading floor lamp round out a room that feels simultaneously fresh and deeply restful. Blue embroidered bedding and a striped bolster pillow tie the whole palette together with gentle precision.
Nursery
A thoughtfully designed nursery shares the upper level's soft blue palette, with a classic white Jenny Lind spindle crib, a natural wood book rack, a wicker whale toy basket, and a gold circular mirror creating a space that is sweet without being saccharine. The same cloud painting above the bed and the soft blue walls create a dreamy, sky-like atmosphere perfectly suited for a young child.

This re-conceived rambler for a family of 4 sits comfortably within its original footprint yet meets contemporary living needs through StudioMB's addition of a new second floor, covered and uncovered rear courts, and a lower terrace. These elements, along with a new front court that brings views of the outdoors into the new living and kitchen, overcomes the original layout’s small, dark spaces while the added wood and glass boxes bring natural light deep into the home.

Tucked beside the wine cellar, this cozy booth is fully wrapped in Weathered Antique Paneling, framed by Hand Hewn Timbers as posts and ceiling beams, with Antique Skip Oak Flooring underfoot. The reclaimed wood carries through into the adjoining wine cellar as well, creating a warm, moody retreat for gathering that feels every bit as rustic and lived in as the rest of this Minnesota barnhouse.
Weathered Antique Paneling is milled from a mix of softwoods, hemlock to pine, sourced from joists, roof boards, decking, and walls of late 19th and early 20th century structures, its deep moody patina ideal for wrapping an entire nook in reclaimed character. Hand Hewn Timbers, salvaged from our neighboring Wisconsin and shaped by hand with axes and adzes, bring true one of a kind texture to every post and beam, while Antique Skip Oak Flooring beneath is milled from a mix of red and white reclaimed oak, skip planed for a distressed, century old surface.

A black and white kitchen is a sharp contrast to its uninspiring builder grade origins. A 48″ Thermador Range makes a bold statement centered on the wall beneath a black, chimney style hood. A quartz backsplash with a bold, black vein brings a clean sophistication to the kitchen focal point, which is further accentuated by glass transom cabinets for texture and light. The wall is anchored with a refrigerator on one end and an appliance garage on the other. Seating for 4 is provided by a T-shaped island which allows for family-style dining and dinnertime conversation. A tall pantry is complimented by a quaint coffee station, which also contains a microwave drawer. In the adjacent family room, a white fireplace with a simple wood mantle and a narrow, enclosed bookcase bring the entire room into harmony.

Overview:
Wing-like roofline houses a dramatic white villa in Costa Rica jungle.
Studio Saxe was commissioned to design a villa on the hilltops of Santiago in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica. The primary objective was not only to provide dwellers with a connection with its jungle surroundings but also to generate an intimate relationship with an amazing view of the shoreline which brings its dwellers back to a more profound appreciation of the natural world.
Concept
Studio Saxe decided to create a large roof that would house within a series of bedrooms and living spaces that would all be turned sideways in order to face the prominent views. Interstitial spaces within the living volumes create gaps that enhance a deeper connection to the natural surroundings whilst moving about the dwelling.
Design
Every space in the home has been angled to view the ocean, and this twist creates a geometric relationship between the roofline and the spaces that became the primary element of design that both addresses the need for large overhangs (for climate control and comfort) but also generates a literal connection between the view and every space.
This white house in the jungle acts as a canvas so that morning and sunset light reflect on its surfaces creating an array of colors that vary throughout the day. The angled surfaces also allow for the reflection of shadows and the textures of nature to play within the interstitial spaces that exist between the living spaces.
Construction
Due to the remoteness of the location and difficult access, Studio Saxe decided to create a light steel frame that could be prefabricated off-site, brought, and assembled in a fast and effective way. This not only ensured the quality of the construction in a very remote location, but it also allowed the process of construction to be very light touch and the intervention on the site to be very minimal while creating the sensation of large open spaces that bring the view in and at the same time are protected by a large roof held by steel “I” beams.
Sustainability
At Studio Saxe we believe that proper design with nature should be the first focus of sustainability and thus, this villa has been oriented properly to take advantage of predominant winds for cooling. Also, long overhangs protect from the sun and the rain in the most critical parts of the day creating comfort without the use of energy. A light touch construction method meant that the impact on the site was minimal during the implementation of the villa and the extended roofline also serves as a means to collect water and energy generation.

This custom farmhouse-style master bedroom is a serene retreat, thoughtfully layered with architectural detail and soft, balanced tones. Vaulted ceilings soaring nearly 15 feet high create an airy, expansive feel, naturally drawing the eye upward to a stunning beaded chandelier in an Ocean Mist finish—a subtle blue-gray that introduces both texture and a calming, cool-toned elegance. Walls painted in Sherwin Williams Argos provide the perfect neutral backdrop, offering a balanced gray that enhances the room’s light and openness. Adding to the charm, a pair of barn doors with a diamond molding design lead to an adjoining sitting room, bringing character and a touch of craftsmanship to the space. To soften the overall palette, the interior windows and barn doors are finished in Sherwin Williams Alabaster, creating a crisp yet inviting contrast. The windows themselves feature a single vertical grid in each unit—a thoughtful detail that blends modern simplicity with traditional charm, adding visual interest without overwhelming the design. Grounding the entire space, rustic medium-stained hardwood floors bring warmth and richness, anchoring the light and airy elements above. The result is a beautifully cohesive master suite that feels both elevated and effortlessly comfortable.

This playful bunk room is built entirely from Weathered Antique reclaimed wood, framing four built-in bunks with black metal ladders and rails, set atop Antique Skip Oak Flooring. The deep, moody tones of the reclaimed wood bring a cozy, cabin-like warmth to this custom sleeping nook, striking the balance between rustic charm and family friendly comfort that defines this Minnesota barnhouse.

We are currently completely renovating the primary bathroom and walk in closet. We cannot wait to share the finished space.

From foundation pour to welcome home pours, we loved every step of this residential design. This home takes the term “bringing the outdoors in” to a whole new level! The patio retreats, firepit, and poolside lounge areas allow generous entertaining space for a variety of activities.
Coming inside, no outdoor view is obstructed and a color palette of golds, blues, and neutrals brings it all inside. From the dramatic vaulted ceiling to wainscoting accents, no detail was missed.
The master suite is exquisite, exuding nothing short of luxury from every angle. We even brought luxury and functionality to the laundry room featuring a barn door entry, island for convenient folding, tiled walls for wet/dry hanging, and custom corner workspace – all anchored with fabulous hexagon tile.

Large black-trimmed windows bring in ample natural light, framing the serene simplicity of this primary bedroom. Walls are finished in Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace, a clean white that complements the warmth of natural oak flooring. The white ceiling fan is the Hunter Timpani 52", providing quiet comfort without distracting from the space’s soft palette. Natural materials like a woven jute rug and layered pillows introduce earthy texture, while pops of forest green and teal in the decor add rich depth. A modern Highland cow print adds character above the upholstered bed, bringing in a rustic yet refined focal point.

This bathroom features Weathered Antique Paneling as wainscoting along the walls and vanity base, with matching Weathered Antique Trim framing the ceiling beam and mirror above the double trough sink. The reclaimed wood brings a warm, textured backdrop to the space, softening the black countertop and modern fixtures with the same rustic character found throughout this Minnesota barnhouse.

Obelisk Home built this French Contemporary home with spaces for entertaining inside and out. Considering all of the small details helped to incorporated unique touches and charm to this new build. Wood beams in the living spaces at the heart of the home as well as the wooden tones on cabinetry have been brought throughout the home to create a cohesive design for this space. Large windows maximize natural lighting available to the home and encourages minimal lighting needed throughout living spaces and unique accent lights in every space bring life and brighten them without the harshness that comes from recessed lighting. Custom art pieces are included in every space bringing in warmth and life allowing the spaces to get a lived in feeling.

Inspired by the colors and relaxed beauty of the coast, this kitchen combines creamy white cabinets with white countertops and backsplash for a casual yet refined feel. A deep navy island and brass accents bring contrast and personality while keeping the look timeless. The original layout included a dysfunctional pantry, an angled peninsula, and a small pass-through to the living room that blocked most of the view. By removing those elements and opening the wall completely, the kitchen now feels bright, open, and connected. A new island with seating for four gives this family a place to gather for breakfast or evening conversation. Every detail, from the warm cabinet tones to the soft lighting and tailored hardware, was chosen to create a space that feels both comfortable and elevated, bringing a hint of the Amalfi Coast to everyday life.

This Pinterest-perfect kitchen was imagined as the true heart of the home — a place where mornings begin with sunlight pouring through the windows and evenings bring family and friends together around the island. The rich leathered granite countertops add depth and texture, built to handle real life while still feeling timeless and refined.
At the center, a large statement island naturally becomes the gathering place — where conversations happen, meals are shared, and memories are made. Just steps away, a dedicated dining area offers another place to gather when the house is full. Sleek black stainless steel appliances add a modern touch, while a reverse osmosis filtration system brings clean, refreshing water right from the tap. Every detail was chosen with care, creating a kitchen that feels warm, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed — the kind of space every homeowner dreams of.

Our vision for this new-build condo was to create a captivating space that celebrates our client’s individuality, bringing together a diverse mix of styles, textures, and elements while maintaining a cohesive and contemporary feel. It combines the fresh, clean look of white as the predominant color with eclectic accents that add our client’s personality and character to the space. There are several “areas'' within this multi-functional space. A large sectional in a greige velvet serves as the centerpiece of the seating area, grounded by pops of blue and pink in the custom Morrocan rug. The cobalt blue theme is carried throughout, seen in the accents, art and even the ombre glass console table of the entry. A set of two blue swivel chairs by the windows, are the perfect setting for a glass of wine in the early evening as the light glistens in through the custom white sheers. The airy dining table is made of glass and carved marble and surrounded by chrome sculptural dining chairs. Above, the multi-faceted antique mirror multi-pendant chandelier drips down from the high ceiling. Our client’s antique carved wood chairs, reupholstered in a linen zebra, flank the selenite and brass bar cabinet. In the corner by the fireplace, a lucite and cowhide desk is paired with a brightly colored vintage chair. On the right of the fireplace, a leather swing, perfectly suited for reading. Lastly, the white kitchen with shimmering blue quartzite countertops brings the design in full circle.

Custom window treatments balance beauty and function, softening the architecture, enhancing views, and creating a comfortable, polished environment perfect for everyday living — in this collaborative project with Barbara Galgano, of BB Interiors.
Floor-to-ceiling drapery in a soft blue and cream botanical print frames expansive windows, filling the living room with natural light while adding depth and sophistication. The tailored pleated panels, finished with a tassel trim detail and hung from custom French return rod and rings, bring a refined elegance to the space while remaining approachable and inviting.
In the inviting kitchen, custom-tailored Roman shades and seat cushions provide a refined yet welcoming layer of comfort and style. The Roman shades, feature a fabric that complements the room’s palette and coordinates with the adjacent living room draperies. Coordinating seat cushions on the barstools are expertly upholstered for both durability and comfort, adding softness to the sleek seating.
In the cheerful and highly functional laundry and mudroom, custom soft furnishings bring both comfort and personality. The built-in bench features a tailored cushion upholstered in a fresh blue geometric print, edged with piping for a polished finish—perfect for a quick seat while slipping on shoes or folding laundry. The window is dressed with a relaxed Roman shade in a lively coral-and-white pattern, framed with a crisp blue pleated tape trim. These pieces add a playful contrast to the whimsical dog-print wallpaper, creating a space that’s as stylish as it is practical.
Together, these custom elements elevate the home’s design, creating a cohesive, polished look that blends everyday function with a touch of luxury.
