To meet City requirements, we installed pavers over a permeable base

Meet Meridith: a super-mom who’s as busy as she is badass — and easily my favorite overachiever. She slays her office job and comes home to an equally high-octane family life.
We share a love for city living with farmhouse aspirations. There’s a vegetable garden in the backyard, a black cat, and a floppy eared rabbit named Rocky. There has been a mobile chicken coop and a colony of bees in the backyard. At one point they even had a pregnant hedgehog on their hands!
Between gardening, entertaining, and helping with homework, Meridith has zero time for interior design. Spending several days a week in New York for work, she has limited amount of time at home with her family. My goal was to let her make the most of it by taking her design projects off her to do list and let her get back to her family (and rabbit).
I wanted her to spend her weekends at her son's baseball games, not shopping for sofas. That’s my cue!
Meridith is wonderful. She is one of the kindest people I know. We had so much fun, it doesn’t seem fair to call this “work”. She is loving, and smart, and funny. She’s one of those girlfriends everyone wants to call their own best friend. I wanted her house to reflect that: to feel cozy and inviting, and encourage guests to stay a while.
Meridith is not your average beige person, and she has excellent taste. Plus, she was totally hands-on with design choices. It was a true collaboration. We played up her quirky side and built usable, inspiring spaces one lightbulb moment at a time.
I took her love for color (sacré blue!) and immediately started creating a plan for her space and thinking about her design wish list. I set out hunting for vibrant hues and intriguing patterns that spoke to her color palette and taste for pattern.
I focused on creating the right vibe in each space: a bit of drama in the dining room, a bit more refined and quiet atmosphere for the living room, and a neutral zen tone in their master bedroom.
Her stuff. My eye.
Meridith’s impeccable taste comes through in her art collection. The perfect placement of her beautiful paintings served as the design model for color and mood.
We had a bit of a chair graveyard on our hands, but we worked with some key pieces of her existing furniture and incorporated other traditional pieces, which struck a pleasant balance. French chairs, Asian-influenced footstools, turned legs, gilded finishes, glass hurricanes – a wonderful mash-up of traditional and contemporary.
Some special touches were custom-made (the marble backsplash in the powder room, the kitchen banquette) and others were happy accidents (a wallpaper we spotted via Pinterest). They all came together in a design aesthetic that feels warm, inviting, and vibrant — just like Meridith!
We built her space based on function.
We asked ourselves, “how will her family use each room on any given day?” Meridith throws legendary dinner parties, so we needed curated seating arrangements that could easily switch from family meals to elegant entertaining. We sought a cozy eat-in kitchen and decongested entryways that still made a statement. Above all, we wanted Meredith’s style and panache to shine through every detail. From the pendant in the entryway, to a wild use of pattern in her dining room drapery, Meredith’s space was a total win. See more of our work at www.safferstone.com. This client moved to the area to be near their adult daughter and grandchildren so this new construction is destined to be a place full of happy memories and family entertaining. The goal throughout the home was to incorporate their existing collection of artwork and sculpture with a more contemporary aesthetic. The kitchen, located on the first floor of the 3-story townhouse, shares the floor with a dining space, a living area and a powder room.
The kitchen is U-shaped with the sink overlooking the dining room, the cooktop along the exterior wall, with a large clerestory window above, and the bank of tall paneled appliances and storage along the back wall. The European cabinetry is made up of three separate finishes – a light gray glossy lacquer for the base cabinets, a white glossy lacquer for the tall cabinets and a white glass finish for the wall cabinets above the cooktop. The colors are subtly different but provide a bit of texture that works nicely with the finishings chosen for the space. The stainless grooves and toe kick provide additional detail.
The long peninsula provides casual seating and is topped with a custom walnut butcher block waterfall countertop that is 6” thick and has built in wine storage on the front side. This detail provides a warm spot to rest your arms and the wine storage provides a repetitive element that is heard again in the pendants and the barstool backs. The countertops are quartz, and appliances include a full size refrigerator and freezer, oven, steam oven, gas cooktop and paneled dishwasher.

What an exciting project to be part of! This 100+ year old Twin Cities home is being painstakingly restored to its original beauty — with some modernization in the process. Here at The Cabinet Store we had the opportunity to help the owners with their kitchen selections and are proud to showcase the beautiful end results.
The homeowners chose the Showplace Wood Chesapeake door style in Red Oak wood with a matte Driftwood finish to accent the beautifully-aged original woodwork throughout the home. The gray of the Driftwood over the natural wood of the Red Oak creates a lovely unique style and color tone. The contemporary organizational and storage cabinet pieces from Showplace are also a much appreciated addition to this vintage kitchen.
The homeowners topped off their kitchen remodel with amazing Cambria Quartz Countertops in Torquay for a complete turn of the century feel!

One important element with any design project is the development of a "design path" (or "color path"), that creates a coherent, well-planned look for the entire space. Oftentimes this is called a "color board" and all the swatches, finishes and fabrics are laid out together to see the entire room (or entire home) and how all the design elements coordinate and work together.
In kitchen design, this includes wall paint colors, cabinetry finish colors, flooring, countertops, and tile along with appliance, plumbing, and hardware finishes. For the interior design with a room or entire home, it includes furnishings and other surfaces as well. The idea is to create a cohesive look for the entire space.
To create a color path for your home or remodeling project, begin with your neutral colors and then select the other colors for your space. The colors you select may be based on your existing furnishings, a favorite piece of art, or simply colors that resonate to you. In order to create a visually appealing space, let this color page guide your color selections going forward.
Neutral colors (gray, beige, taupe or white) will usually be the background palette with 1-3 other dominant colors layered.
For contemporary or transitional designs, oftentimes a sleek, neutral palette is selected and it's important for all colors to be consistent with this palette. For this soft contemporary kitchen, a neutral palette of gray wood-tone (Weathered "A" finish on Oak) with white-gray paint, stainless and black appliances were selected and then carefully blended throughout the home for a clean, sleek appearance.
Once the "color path" was selected, the cabinetry was specified in the appropriate colors and all of the surfaces, soft goods, plateware, and accent pieces were selected to coordinate.
Featuring Dura Supreme's Bria Frameless Cabinetry shown with the Dura Supreme's Chroma door style. The Chrome door style is one of our many classic slab cabinet door styles. This design combines our Pearl light gray paint finish with our Weathered "A" finish on Red Oak for the accents and shelving.

The new two story entry is on the left with a new glass hallway to connect to the master suite. The upper greenhouse is the shower with two shower heads and glass walls as well. The lower greenhouse with motorized shade is in the new family room. The exterior timbers are all old wood with a stone base that is dry stacked, stepped, and has a wave pattern.
This project was a major transformation to the existing residence. It contained an addition of a two car garage, another bay at the back for an artist shop, laundry room and mud room off the garage connecting with a new front entry on the main level.
The front entry has a grand stair that splits half way up serving the existing house and a new access to the master suite as well as the second level of the garage addition. This second level contains an art studio with close off rooms for grandkids a sitting area, and a full bath with two sinks.
At the same time, the entire existing house was remodeled and most all rooms were relocated and re-arranged to accommodate a new kitchen, a family room, two guest rooms with baths on suite and a new master bedroom and bath on the upper level.

This open master bathroom brings the blues and greens of the ocean into this Central Illinois condo. Inset style cabinets from Showplace Wood Products in the gorgeous color Reflecting Pool, along with accent tile (Daltile City Lights Series in South Beach) backsplash and broad horizontal stripe in shower carry the them throughout.
The Onyx Collection vanity top with integrated sinks as well as shower base, walls, custom bench and crown moulding offer the easy maintenance without forfeiting quality and style. We love the floor to ceiling glass panels and decorative mirrors that allow light to flow and reflect in this sunny bathroom.
Don't miss the custom bench and hand held shower fixture with diverter for relaxed bathing.
