A young family in a new development and wanting more out of their home decided to remodel the 2500 square feet of unfinished space in their basement. Their goals were to have a future au-pair suite, large entertainment area, multi -seating spaces, a gym, and last but not the least, a state-of-the- art home theater. Additionally, they have been accustomed to large gatherings with 50 and more guests, so it was essential to have a large bar/kitchenette area serving the dual purpose. The highlight of this renovation is the new home movie theatre. Complete with HD screen, projector and sound system, the motif for the room is the Renaissance, complete with fluted columns and arched panel walls. Double wood theatre doors open to theatre seating featuring burgundy leather theatre recliners. The basement also touts a large au-pair bedroom suite, large walk-in closet and full bath furnished with walk-in shower stall, built-in bench and niches, frameless glass enclosure, cherry vanity cabinets and brick color porcelain tiles. A custom bar/kitchenette uses cherry stained cabinets with dark granite countertops. It offers a built-in oven, microwave, wine coolers and a full refrigerator. So whether the family wants to watch a favorite movie, work out in the home gym or have friends over for a party, this fully equipped basement is ready for the job.

The old basement was a warren of random rooms with low bulkheads crisscrossing the space. A laundry room was awkwardly located right off the family room and blocked light from one of the windows. We reconfigured/resized the ductwork to minimize the impact on ceiling heights and relocated the laundry in order to expand the family room and allow space for a kid's art corner. The natural wood slat wall keeps the stairway feeling open and is a real statement piece; additional space was captured under the stairs for storage cubbies to keep clutter at bay.

Traditional styled kitchen had its cabinets renewed in maple with a crystal white stain and a coffee glaze. All doors are center-raised panel and the countertops are silestone. The contrasting island is done in cherry with a cordovan stain. A variety of convenient and helpful organizers were installed throughout. And it all happened with Custom Cabinet Renewal! The footprint of kitchen stayed the same and all existing cabinets were refaced. The bulkhead was removed and 24 inch cabinets were added on top of existing wall cabinets for floor-to-ceiling storage. The closet pantry was removed and a custom pantry with slide-out shelves was installed in its place. A matching custom valence was placed over the window, and a new cherry custom island was built with door end panels and a furniture base.

The tiled flooring flows through the kitchen and dining areas. Magnificent silk curtains and leather dining furniture are the everything in this dining suite. Our client had a dark kitchen that was very popular back in the day, however times change and it was time for something brighter and more airy, with better functionality. We started by removing bulkheads and changing out the flooring to a modern, 24x24 porcelain tile. Custom, Benjamin Moore painted cabinetry was then installed, following by stunning Porcelain countertops with matching backsplash. The result is simply stunning! This project is officially one of the four projects shortlisted for the KBB Review Award for the Residential Bathroom Design of the Year. With our firm being only 11 months old, we have a lot to be proud of in our first year. Our client wanted a contemporary feel with nice dark tones to enjoy a nice relaxing soak in the bath. Lighting was very important and had to be designed to create a euphoric atmosphere. This kitchen design in Crofton is a testament to the impact a fresh design and new layout can make to your quality of life. The remodel started by creating an open floor plan. By removing walls between the old kitchen and dining room, as well as a bulkhead, plumbing, and electric, we were able to re-imagine the space and create an open kitchen/dining room that is perfect for this growing family. The L-shaped layout includes a well-planned cooking zone with wall ovens and a gas cooktop (converted from electric). The peninsula incorporates a white Kohler farmhouse sink and Delta faucet, accented by eye-catching Progress Lighting pendants from the "Swing" collection.
