This basement laundry room provides custom-made storage and a wide folding station, plus a mudroom area, and it does it all in style. Style that exudes, a word you don’t want to use in most basements, from materials like the rain cloud panels and shelves.

Form follows function in this classically designed master ensuite, with lots of utilitarian storage, complemented with delicate details. This once leaky builder basic bathroom, transformed into a bright and beautiful oasis. Taking cues from the home (filled with precious antiques), we brought new life to the bathroom with vintage inspired elements – which can be seen in the detail of the wood vanity, and the soft cloud prints. Large scale, bright white tiles paired with teal glass tiles in the shower reflect the light, giving the illusion of doubling the space, while also adding subtle interest to the otherwise simplistic space.

Regan Baker Design was hired in conjunction with John Lum Architects to update this beautiful edwardian in the Castro, San Francisco. The couple who work for both Pixar and Apple, enjoy color, something that Regan Baker Design really enjoys as well. The kitchen, once closed off by a peninsula island, was removed to open to the living room creating a more open floor plan. Open shelves help open up the room as well, while also creating architecture and interest to a rather tall kitchen. Once an under stair closet, the guest bathroom's custom walnut vanity provides storage for every day necessities, while the tiled walls bring interest to a rather small white bathroom. One accent glass tile wall continues the splash of blue color palette throughout the house. Finish and fixture selections were paired with a few statement pieces including the oversized Flos pendant over the island, the Roche Bobois sofa in multi-color and the client's existing teal round slipper chair, purchased from the ever famed Judge Judy. The nursery, designed around the client's grandmother's croched character stuffed animals and the ever so cute cloud smiley face rug, was completed just in time before the birth of their daughter. Above the vanity, a simple brass light fixture and a large, frameless mirror complete the modern aesthetic. When considering the specifics of design, we wanted to stay true to the home’s mid-century roots, while updating it with today’s style elements. Embracing the mid-century aspects, we played off some of the existing features of the home by mirroring them in the spaces we redesigned. To introduce today’s style, we thoughtfully incorporated the finishes and touches that would aptly reflect that component. The resulting design is beautifully juxtaposed by the homeowners’ treasured antique furniture pieces. In the kitchen, we enhanced the open and airy feel by choosing a light greige color for the inset cabinetry paired with a tonal light-colored, blue-veined quartz for the countertops. These tones are perfectly complemented by the gold finishes of the cabinet hardware, faucets, and mid-century modern pendants. To maximize the storage potential of this kitchen, we customized the cabinetry with a convenient utensil organizer and a blind corner “cloud” pullout. A full height zellige-style tile backsplash with custom floating shelves makes for an impressive statement wall. With family get togethers in mind, we added an additional bar/prep sink and a spacious breakfast nook with a good deal of bench storage. A vertically-slatted wood half-wall separates the kitchen and breakfast nook, replicating the original mid-century wall detail at the entry.
