A complete remodel of this entire home provided the flow and functionality our clients hoped for, within a space that befittingly showcased their favourite artwork and unique elements of personal self-expression. An artistic spirit is apparent throughout the home as complementary tones of blues, greys, and whites reflect and enhance the ethereal worlds depicted in their cherished art collection. Art is just one of the passions of this family, who also required a kitchen suited to their love of cooking. Vast counter space with high-end finishes and substantial storage in the form of elegant cabinetry frame the centrepiece – a beautifully anachronistic oven imported from France. With its pastel cerulean colour, the range draws the eye and evokes the homeowners’ artistic sensibilities. Similar pops of blue infuse the rest of the home with this cool worldliness, from the refinished bathroom with its walk-in closet, to the décor surrounding the stonework fireplace. This domestic composition is one which could surely fit in alongside our clients’ collection.

A stainless steel kitchen integrated into a large scale landscaping makeover. The bronze undertone to a grey stainless steel cabinets adds a complementary contrast to the light grey tones of the house and landscaping. With an oversized sink that doubles as an ice bar and a fridge, this kitchen was designed with hosting poolside in mind.

This 4,800 square-foot guesthouse is a three-story residence consisting of a main-level master suite, upper-level guest suite, and a large bunkroom. The exterior finishes were selected for their durability and low-maintenance characteristics, as well as to provide a unique, complementary element to the site. Locally quarried granite and a sleek slate roof have been united with cement fiberboard shingles, board-and-batten siding, and rustic brackets along the eaves. The public spaces are located on the north side of the site in order to communicate with the public spaces of a future main house. With interior details picking up on the picturesque cottage style of architecture, this space becomes ideal for both large and small gatherings. This run of the mills 1950 Rambler in Fairfax city area is in a desired need of a facelift. The retiring homeowner wanted to stay in their old neighborhood while desiring to uplift their droopy front elevation and compete with rest of new comers in their neighborhood. Through several design consultation and lots of changes, our design staff has presented her with a final draft. They wanted to hang out in front porch and enjoy their front yard and walking neighbors more their backyard. • We designed implemented a new covered front porch with trex flooring and stone columns with tarped tops, beaded panel ceiling, recess lights and ceiling fan, perfect place for couple rockers to hang outdoor and enjoy the view. • The entire three sides of the house were covered with veneer water table stone and hardie plank siding with a jade green and a complementary shaker siding on the gables. • Adding tow gable over the garage and the left elevation has changed the entire front elevation • The new arts & Craft wooden garage door and front door uplifted the street appearance and given it a much-desired country look • The entire roofing was changed up with Architectural shingles and trimmed and new gable, then painted the old brick walls to compliment the new Hardie sidings. • Rain drop gutters and soft landscaping brought the look together

Beautiful wine collections need an equally beautiful display. Our customers located in the Streeterville area had an enormous collection, and we provided them with the added illusion of an enormous wine cellar! One of our favorite elements of this modern wine cellar is the mirrored ceiling. This is a creative trick to provide an infinite appearance that will elude to the idea of having hundreds of shelves! Each corner of this modern wine cellar is complemented by our different racking techniques. Our display shelves allow each bottle to have its own moment of appreciation, to create an artful look that is sure to impress. When our client approached us with an idea of housing their extensive wine collection in their modern high rise residence, we were thrilled! After viewing their incredibly modern home, we realized that we could not provide them with a traditional wine cellar. We were presented with an exciting task of reimagining our traditional displays, to a clean and sleek modern design. As designers, maintaining the flow of a home is very important to us and our mission is to enhance the home’s existing features. From the wine cellar door to the ceiling, we were able to bring our A-game and create a complementary extension to our customer’s home. Our custom wine cellar door is equipped with a matching threshold, that holds all of the cold air in place. When you take a step inside, you are greeted from floor to ceiling with exquisite design. From our customer’s collectible storage boxes to 4 upward facing display shelves, you are immediately aware that this is a work of art. Each display shelf is adorned with its own light strip that further draws attention to the collectible wine bottles. As you glance up further, you see our storage shelves in full force. Playing off of the vast collection, we decided to install a mirrored ceiling. This design element allowed us to have some fun, and to further accentuate the large collection. This modern wine cellar is complete with a clear glass insulated Modern door that creates a temperature-controlled environment, conducive for preserving wine for decades. As designers, we were presented with a wonderful opportunity to showcase several of our strong suits. We were able to provide our client with a modern wine cellar, as well as an engineered, temperature-controlled environment. The Simone Table is part of the Simone Collection. Designed first for Chicago’s Sol Cafe and then amended for wider release, the Simone Collection is a set of minimal, complementary tables and benches. This iteration is made entirely from solid walnut and held together with dovetail joinery. The pieces in the Simone Collection juxtapose disparate design eras and traditions. The dovetails are a longtime favorite of traditional woodworkers and are as beautiful as they are strong; spaced in irregular intervals, they offer visual complexity to an otherwise understated form. On the other hand, the hand-rubbed, Danish oil and wax finish recalls Scandinavian modernism. Tables and benches available exclusively in walnut with a Danish oil and wax finish.

A passion project for The Fernandes family, “The Haverly” is the culmination of a multi-year dream for the clients, who had envisioned a complimentary pool house to go with their authentic mid-century modern home since purchasing it years ago. They took their time, scouring construction sites for the unique Haver Block, a pre-cast signature brick, long since out of production, that was a staple of famed local architect, Ralph Haver. They also obtained and held onto period-appropriate decorative panels from the Biltmore during one of its many remodels. The structure itself takes outdoor/indoor living to another level, with 30 linear feet of the exterior being retractable floor-to-ceiling glass panels, meeting on a corner. This presented a fun design challenge for Zach Burns of MODE Architecture, who had to figure out how to cantilever the majority of the exterior roof with a minimum of visible support. The glass is offset by exposed CMU, with a specific linear grout pattern, and a metal roof fascia with complementary linear detail. The focal point of course is the custom-made walnut bar, complete with period-specific “boomerang” laminate tops and padded leather bar rail. Behind the bar is a commercial-grade bar set up, highlighted by an 80” TV with the capability to split into 4 smaller pictures (period specific to the 21st century!) The bathroom tile matches the pool coping tile, the cozy semi-private office is enhanced by a gorgeous piece of 1950s furniture, and the one-of-a-kind neon sign was a gift from Regency to close friends.

The clients disliked both the builder grade soaking tub and small shower, in fact, preferring to sacrifice the tub for a much bigger spa-like shower stall. In general, they wanted more space and more storage. To increase the footprint for the remodel, a decision was made to “steal” some space from the seating room. The new layout features a large, walk-in shower with a frameless glass enclosure. A rain shower, body sprays and bench seating meet all of the homeowners’ desires. Large linen cabinets surround a large new vanity, touting a granite top, vessel sinks and wall-mounted faucets. Mirrored, embedded medicine cabinets are wrapped in glass tile and illuminated by hanging lights. The opposite wall features floating dressing cabinets which serve as a new make-up area. Smart use of lighting, such as pendants, sconces, and recess lights has made the space brighter than ever. Designers at Michael Nash Design, Build & Homes used large, light color porcelain tiles and enhanced the look with complementary glass tiles on accents walls, niches and other areas.
