Our team began the master bedroom design by anchoring the room with a dramatic but simple black canopy bed. The next layer was a neutral but textured area rug with a herringbone "zig zag" design that we repeated again in our throw pillows and nightstands. The light wood of the nightstands and woven window shades added subtle contrast and texture. Two seating areas provide ample comfort throughout the bedroom with a small sofa at the end of the bed and comfortable swivel chairs in front of the window. The long simple drapes are anchored by a simple black rod that repeats the black iron element of the canopy bed. The dresser is also black, which carries this color around the room. A black iron chandelier with wooden beads echoes the casually elegant design, while layers of cream bedding and a textural throw complete the design.

This cozy lake cottage skillfully incorporates a number of features that would normally be restricted to a larger home design. A glance of the exterior reveals a simple story and a half gable running the length of the home, enveloping the majority of the interior spaces. To the rear, a pair of gables with copper roofing flanks a covered dining area that connects to a screened porch. Inside, a linear foyer reveals a generous staircase with cascading landing. Further back, a centrally placed kitchen is connected to all of the other main level entertaining spaces through expansive cased openings. A private study serves as the perfect buffer between the homes master suite and living room. Despite its small footprint, the master suite manages to incorporate several closets, built-ins, and adjacent master bath complete with a soaker tub flanked by separate enclosures for shower and water closet. Upstairs, a generous double vanity bathroom is shared by a bunkroom, exercise space, and private bedroom. The bunkroom is configured to provide sleeping accommodations for up to 4 people. The rear facing exercise has great views of the rear yard through a set of windows that overlook the copper roof of the screened porch below. After the initial meet with the clients and Witt Construction, I began to think about how the space could work. The cabinets were crafted with Edgemont Recessed doors in maple with an antique white finish…a perfect selection for the kitchen’s traditional/coastal design. For countertop, I suggested modern grey soapstone. With a nod to today’s popular trend to mix and match finishes, the island was completed in a black espresso glaze distressed finish with maple Edgemont Raised doors. What really distinguishes this project is the attention to the details. Along the refrigerator wall, the shelf area has lowered seeded mullion glass cabinets and a valance. This created an airy, open look within the space. The bead board accents and corbels throughout the kitchen complete the design.

This master walk-in closet was completed in antique white with lots shelving, hanging space and pullout laundry hampers to accompany the washer and dryer incorporated into the space for this busy mom. A large island with raised panel drawer fronts and oil rubbed bronze hardware was designed for laundry time in mind. This picture was taken before the island counter top was installed.

This beautiful kitchen complete with plenty of white cabinet space and herringbone tile back splash is a room where good meals are made and shared with family and friends. The simple wrought iron chandelier along with the butcher block island create a rustic feel while French doors and floral accents add a touch of elegance.

The client requested a kitchen that would not only provide a great space to cook and enjoy family meals but one that would fit in with her unique design sense. An avid collector of contemporary art, she wanted something unexpected in her 100-year-old home in both color and finishes but still providing a great layout with improved lighting, storage, and superior cooking abilities. The existing kitchen was in a closed off space trapped between the family room and the living. If you were in the kitchen, you were isolated from the rest of the house. Making the kitchen an integrated part of the home was a paramount request. Step one, remove the wall separating the kitchen from the other rooms in the home which allowed the new kitchen to become an integrated space instead of an isolation room for the cook. Next, we relocated the pantry access which was in the family room to the kitchen integrating a poorly used recess which had become a catch all area which did not provide any usable space for storage or working area. To add valuable function in the kitchen we began by capturing unused "cubbies", adding a walk-in pantry from the kitchen, increasing the storage lost to un-needed drop ceilings and bring light and design to the space with a new large awning window, improved lighting, and combining interesting finishes and colors to reflect the artistic attitude of the client. A bathroom located above the kitchen had been leaking into the plaster ceiling for several years. That along with knob and tube wiring, rotted beams and a brick wall from the back of the fireplace in the adjacent living room all needed to be brought to code. The walls, ceiling and floors in this 100+ year old home were completely out of level and the room’s foot print could not be increased. The choice of a Sub-Zero wolf product is a standard in my kitchen designs. The quality of the product, its manufacturing and commitment to food preservation is the reason I specify Sub Zero Wolf. For the cook top, the integrated line of the contemporary cooktop and the signature red knobs against the navy blue of the cabinets added to the design vibe of the kitchen. The cooking performance and the large continuous grate on the cooktop makes it an obvious choice for a cook looking for a great cook top with professional results in a more streamlined profile. We selected a Sharp microwave drawer for the island, an XO wine refrigerator, Bosch dishwasher and Kitchen Aid double convection wall ovens to round out the appliance package. A recess created by the fireplace was outfitted with a cabinet which now holds small appliances within easy reach of my very petite client. Natural maple accents were used inside all the wall cabinets and repeated on the front of the hood and for the sliding door appliance cabinet and the floating shelves. This allows a brighter interior for the painted cabinets instead of the traditional same interior as exterior finish choice. The was an amazing transformation from the old to the new. The final touches are the honey bronze hardware from Top Knobs, Mitzi pendants from Hudson Valley Lighting group, a fabulous faucet from Brizo. To eliminate the old freestanding bottled water cooler, we specified a matching water filter faucet.

A custom millwork piece in the living room was designed to house an entertainment center, work space, and mud room storage for this 1700 square foot loft in Tribeca. Reclaimed gray wood clads the storage and compliments the gray leather desk. Blackened Steel works with the gray material palette at the desk wall and entertainment area. An island with customization for the family dog completes the large, open kitchen. The floors were ebonized to emphasize the raw materials in the space.
