The unique design concept of A139 is rooted in the basic geometric idea of two interlocking rectangles. This distinctive feature, along with the incorporation of rectangular geometries into the natural environment, sets it apart. The deliberate placement of a few windows in the front enhances privacy, while the addition of wooded and water elements to the facade creates a sober and elegant aesthetic. The project maintains a common language in its materiality: apparent concrete, steel, and wood. The three materials are presented sincerely from the outside of the house and continue on a constant journey through the interior. A139 is adjacent to the spring forest, privileged in its geographical position. We considered that the project’s purpose was that from any point of the house, we would have panoramic views that would serve as ambiance for itself and thus generate “natural pictures.” Our design philosophy for A139 was to seamlessly integrate the forest into the house. To achieve this, we created interior courtyards and spaces, blurring the boundary between the exterior and the interior. This approach not only enhances the living experience but also fosters a harmonious relationship with the natural surroundings. The house’s program is characterized by its social areas on the first floor, which can be combined to generate larger spaces if necessary. On the first floor are four bedrooms, each with a dressing room, bathroom, and terraces overlooking the spring forest. Casa A139 speaks for itself and presents itself honestly, subtly setting the views and ample spaces in the hierarchy by the natural textures of the materials.

Situated on a large, picturesque lot surrounded by lush, mature trees, this project in Ann Arbor, MI, aimed to create a multi-generational home designed for family members of all ages to live harmoniously under one roof. Primary and secondary spaces were carefully planned and added to support the evolving needs of the household, creating separate wings in response to the different ages and lifestyles; Aging in place on the 1st floor, children and private office spaces on the 2nd floor to respond to the clients working from home. Key modifications to the first-floor layout were made to alleviate congestion, support the concept of “aging in place” and improve circulation in high-traffic areas, ensuring comfort and ease of movement throughout the home. The project included enlarging the existing garage, adding a new family room on the first floor, adding a new formal entry and mudroom, enlarging the living room, renovating the current 1st-floor en-suite for Aging in place, and adding a modern stair tower to the newly added 2nd-floor. The 2nd floor has 3 bedrooms, a home office and a fully new en-suite that accentuates the views from the backyard. An abundance of expansive windows helps to blur the line between the natural and built environments, pulling in lots of natural light through the house. To help with the transformation from a traditional ranch to a modern 2-story, the roof line was designed as an abstraction of the original roof elements/slopes. The clients’ “new” home embodies both function and beauty, offering flexibility for future growth while creating a visually stunning composition of spaces.

We remodeled this lovely 5 bedroom, 4 bathroom, 3,300 sq. home in Arcadia. This beautiful home was built in the 1990s and has gone through various remodeling phases over the years. We now gave this home a unified new fresh modern look with a cozy feeling. We reconfigured several parts of the home according to our client’s preference. The entire house got a brand net of state-of-the-art Milgard windows. On the first floor, we remodeled the main staircase of the home, demolishing the wet bar and old staircase flooring and railing. The fireplace in the living room receives brand new classic marble tiles. We removed and demolished all of the roman columns that were placed in several parts of the home. We reconfigured the main 17-staircase of the home by demolishing the old wooden staircase with a new one. This Federal house was originally built in 1780 and the current owner reached out to the One Source Team with a desire to add more natural light and modern style, all while bringing back some long-lost historical character. Present features include a copper-plated cast-iron fireplace complemented by a black marble mantle, significant crown and base moldings, and window trims that were added back as a nod to the home’s origins. Harmonized on the edge of a tidal marsh of Bohicket Creek on Johns Island, a house was built for indoor-outdoor living. Constructed within a tight budget, architectural poetics were sought through integrated design, with the use of kebony shiplap siding, corrugated metal, and exposed wood rafters. The sensitive landscape drove a design concept that floats above the forest floor and blends in with the habitat of the marsh edge. There was consideration for detail and simple construction methods, through the use of modern interior and exterior trim with minimal details. The raw, simple construction methods and materials were used to infuse the spirit of boat docks and agricultural structures of Johns Island, SC with the use of heavy timber wood piles and knotty pine siding and rain screen. The interior details are simple and dramatic with a waterfall island anchoring the open floor plan and book matched birch veneer wood doors throughout.
