Custom modern pool by Canyon Oak Pools in Dallas, TX, designed to make exceptional use of a narrow courtyard-style backyard. The clean geometric pool complements the contemporary architecture and features multiple deck jets along the pool edge, crisp white decking, and lush bamboo landscaping that provides natural privacy and softens the modern space. The result is a sophisticated, resort-inspired outdoor living area that demonstrates how thoughtful custom pool design can transform even a challenging or compact backyard.

The Pumpkin Ridge Passive House harnesses the simplicity of Passive House design to deliver superb comfort and efficiency at minimal added construction cost. The Pumpkin Ridge Passive House is no more expensive to own on a monthly basis than a conventional custom home, when monthly energy costs are considered alongside mortgage, taxes and insurance. Yet the high performance green building will consume 90% less heating energy and offer exceptional comfort and indoor air quality. The homeowners faced a challenge in their beloved early-1900s home: all the bedrooms were upstairs, while the kitchen was on the main floor. To make their forever home work for the long term, they aimed to “future-proof” it with an ADA-accessible primary suite that would offer comfort, functionality, and independence as they age. To bring this vision to life, we designed and built a carefully integrated addition off the back of the home. Positioned for easy, same-level access from the rear parking area via the alley, the new suite offers both convenience and accessibility without compromising the home’s historic character. Stepping through the back door, you enter a spacious, light-filled primary bedroom that seamlessly blends modern design with thoughtful functionality. The attached ADA-compliant bathroom features a barrierless shower with grab bars, a wheelchair-accessible vanity, and built-in laundry—offering both comfort and ease of use. While the suite was designed for future needs, the space currently doubles as a music room, demonstrating its versatility and intentional design. This addition not only honors the home's original charm but also provides the homeowners with peace of mind, knowing their beloved space will serve them well for years to come.

The Murray small kitchen remodel demonstrated the immense potential of a small kitchen makeover. We started by stripping everything to the studs, enabling us to redesign the layout and make adjustments to the kitchen's overall flow. In the design layout, we closed off a doorway to allow more wall space for additional full custom cabinetry and appliances, enhancing the kitchen's functionality. We extended the counters and repositioned the refrigerator to improve the workspace and flow. The new island, highlighted with pendant lighting and set on stylish hardwood flooring, became the focal point, providing extra counter space and a gathering spot. Additional features like under-cabinet lighting, a touch-activated faucet, and a custom hood boosted the kitchen's overall appeal and practicality. Modern elements like the integrated speed oven in the island cabinetry, and the new hardwood flooring throughout, completed the transformation. The Murray kitchen remodel project successfully combined style and function, transforming a modest kitchen into a warm, inviting, and efficient space.

Site: On a busy stretch of Milwaukee Avenue in Logan Square, we designed a multi-use building with art gallery on the first floor and live work artist residences/studios above. In the rear yard, next to a gritty alley, the owner desired an outdoor garden to extend the gallery and inspire resident artists. Problem: A quiet garden oasis adjacent to a gritty urban alley. Detail Solution: We used rainwater. Rather than diverting roof rainwater to the sewer, we designed a series of roofs, overhangs, and copper clad walls or ‘rain drops’ to bring rainwater into a reflection pool within the garden. Upon entrance to the garden you are in different world: you see sun sparkle off water onto a green glazed brick wall, you’re invited to sit on a limestone bench next to the pool where you hear the sound of recirculating water gurgling away alley noise. Staggered Chicago Common brick walls form the east edge and screen view of the alley. Rainwater overflows the pool at the east edge to the foot of a Gingko tree.
