Inspiration for a mid-sized 1950s brown one-story wood gable roof remodel in Los Angeles

Site strategy is key. When the client introduced Richardson Pribuss to the location in a quiet area of Mill Valley, the site challenges and opportunities were evident. Situated on a quarter acre, the flat lot was home to an existing tract house in disrepair, with nondescript apartment complexes just to the rear.

Nestled in the hills just to the west of Portland, this elegant home for a family of five is a good example of blending environmental building performance with aesthetics. Our clients requested an abundance of natural light, views from throughout the home to the yard to the south, uncompromised indoor air quality, the use of natural materials, and a home that would generate as much energy as it consumes on an annual basis. The home has achieved a LEED for Homes Platinum certification from the US Green Building Council. It’s first impression was memorable as immediately after entering the front door, just past the dining table, there was a tree growing in the middle of home!
