Different than the kitchen, the clients really wanted this space to feel relaxing and "spa like" so a softer cooler palate was used. With a completely new layout, the once bare bathroom now is fully equipped. The larger footprint allowed for a double vanity and ample storage inside the mirrors, vanity, linen shelving, and extra deep shower niches.

A classic contemporary home featuring a living/dining space with 14 ft high ceilings that welcomes family and friends. Classic pieces include 3 taupe leather sofas with custom design and shaped pillows. These pillows are one-of-a-kind. Simple and luxurious. A custom 66" square coffee table and an "origami" sculptural side table enhance the beauty. The two custom tables have been fabricated from hand forged iron and white quartz. The coffee table edge is 4 1/2" thick. The designers realized that these substantial pieces were required in this large space. Two polished bauhaus style floor lamps with oversized white linen shades flank the main living area and provide a softer feel. The entire space is highlighted with bewitching artwork by contemporary artists including Louise Nevelson, David Hockney, Ellsworth Kelly, Jim Dine and more. This contemporary home is a perfect example of 20th Century Euro style design.

Well-traveled. Relaxed. Timeless. Our well-traveled clients were soon-to-be empty nesters when they approached us for help reimagining their Presidio Heights home. The expansive Spanish-Revival residence originally constructed in 1908 had been substantially renovated 8 year prior, but needed some adaptations to better suit the needs of a family with three college-bound teens. We evolved the space to be a bright, relaxed reflection of the family’s time together, revising the function and layout of the ground-floor rooms and filling them with casual, comfortable furnishings and artifacts collected abroad. One of the key changes we made to the space plan was to eliminate the formal dining room and transform an area off the kitchen into a casual gathering spot for our clients and their children. The expandable table and coffee/wine bar means the room can handle large dinner parties and small study sessions with similar ease. The family room was relocated from a lower level to be more central part of the main floor, encouraging more quality family time, and freeing up space for a spacious home gym. In the living room, lounge-worthy upholstery grounds the space, encouraging a relaxed and effortless West Coast vibe. Exposed wood beams recall the original Spanish-influence, but feel updated and fresh in a light wood stain. Throughout the entry and main floor, found artifacts punctate the softer textures — ceramics from New Mexico, religious sculpture from Asia and a quirky wall-mounted phone that belonged to our client’s grandmother.

The vision here was to brighten the space while making it feel inviting and comfortable. The addition of the mirrors helped lighten the space and the updated chandelier brought style to the room. The stripes brought character to the entry way and we framed the windows with softer window treatments.

nspired by the finer points of coastal living, the Chesapeake Bedding collection was designed as the perfect set for sleeping with the French Doors open. The appeal of our oxford cloth coverlet is the perfectly broken-in feel – it’s lightweight and cool, and only gets softer with every wash. The traditional ticking striped pattern pays homage to classic East Coast style, and braided corded edging enhances the collection's Coastal aesthetic.

Client wanted a softer more soothing, romantic room. A "ballerina" bedskirt was designed by layering a shimmering sheer fabric over-skirt that slightly draped onto the floor over a gathered underskirt silk, creating the soft romantic look. Mirrored eglomise and mahogany side tables flank the client's carved french headboard that was reupholstered in a new fabric. Urn shaped crackled porcelain lamps with oval shades accent the classicism of the headboard and side tables. The crystal chandelier in the tray ceiling completes the romantic feel of the room.

Craig Thompson Photography The client was looking for a contemporary but comfortable space as a gathering place for themselves, their family and friends in the city. They wanted color, which was right up my alley. The specific color requests were orange, aqua and purple. We used the orange and aqua in the main living space adding a rich chocolate to the mix to provide a bold color palette. One theme that was consistent in the design was the use of circles, ellipses, and flowing curves. This was evidenced in the fabrics, furniture, wall sconces, bar design, artwork, TV area wall covering, and artwork. Often times contemporary design is very angular, straight lined and rigid. This was not the desired look for this client. They desired an open layout in the main living space to accentuate the breathtaking view. With these units there are always structural issues to be worked through. There is a structural column in an inopportune place in the main Living area. To make sense of this, it was incorporated into a bar that goes right up to the full height window. When sitting at the bar, it almost feels like you are floating in mid air, looking down on the hustle and bustle of the city. The bar is faced with dimensional glass tile with quartz countertops. An elliptical shaped floating bulkhead is intersected by the bold orange column. The bulkhead was finished in the dark chocolate with a silver deco molding around the face like a bracelet, architectural jewelry as I like to refer to it as. The bar creates an interesting architectural focal point, but also provides function for entertaining. We did a softer version of the aqua, combined with gray and cream for the color palette in the Master suite. I was able to give the client her request for purple which we did in the Guest Bedroom (not photographed) as the accent wall behind the bed and combined it with gold to complete the scheme.

Introducing a new standard in Vinyl Plank. Inspired by the length and width of European Oak flooring, these are floors to both admire and live on. At 9-inches wide by 7-feet long, they are the largest vinyl plank available on the market, creating a modern, low-seam installation. The extra-durable 30 mil wear-layer (0.75 mm), ceramic bead coating, and 100% water-proof core make for a floor that can handle heavy commercial traffic. A pre-attached cork backing provides a softer feel, and sound insulation in multi-story applications.

In response to the dramatic, wood-clad ceiling, our team selected a suite of understated, softer elements to make this room feel cozy, including upholstered furniture and an expansive, custom designed wool rug. Because the husband is much taller than his wife, we added a layer of extra back pillows to the sofa to give her the support she needs and allow him to remove pillows as needed. Even the cocktail table has an upholstered edge and a wood center for placing a drink or serving a snack. The two low-backed chairs in front of the windows leave the sweeping view unobstructed while the side table can double as another game table.

This master bathroom was once shouting with coral wallpaper, harsh gold accents and an over sized, unused tub. Our client wanted to escape to their master bathroom and feel as if they were in a spa atmosphere. We were able to show our client’s 3D concept renderings to communicate our overall master bathroom design. Using a marble curved basket weave mosaic tile on the floor with a black granite outline and Carrara baseboard, this stunning design began to take place. We selected a solid white, gloss tile for the shower walls so that our tile accent would be the shower focal point. The shower features a curbless entry, linear drain and seamless glass design for the most luxurious shower experience. Since our client had two beautiful chandeliers from her late mother’s home, we incorporated the fixtures into the lighting plan for a touch of sentimental glam. Custom designed vanity cabinets along with a vessel sink and waterfall edge countertop provided a useful yet beautiful accent to this bathroom. Stunning black sconces offer a softer lighting option that is incorporated with new can lights overhead. The finishing touch on this beautiful master bathroom is the custom designed valances above the windows that offer a sleek black accent with a subtle floral print. Custom bed treatment. The clients wanted a formal hotel feel. The wallpaper is gone and a new softer tan applied. The pink carpet is gone and a neutral beige frieze installed. (I know it looks grey, it's not.) The bed skirt starts the theatrical opening effect that carries through the space.

The matte black plumbing fixtures and cabinetry hardware add a bold contrast to the otherwise softer feel of the white and grey quartz countertop, tile backsplash and grey cabinetry. The built-in spalted maple shelving adds a natural warmth to the space and allows a connection between the two living spaces.

Here are our landscape predictions for the coming year: Natural Feels An outdoor space is already in nature, but imagine maintaining that flow of curved edges, soft textures and all-natural tones to really help connect you with your surroundings. Just like xeriscaping and bioliphic designs, choosing softer-edged products to inspire your outdoor space, including pool caps and even rounded furniture pieces, will help bring nature into even the most technical designs.

The bedrooms in this home definitely take on a more subtle style of Regency period design. We wanted the rooms to feel luxurious yet calming - but not overwhelming. We went with softer color schemes and usually one accent of pattern, either through the window treatments or bedding.
