We started with a traditional, builder grade bathroom and re-imagined the space to become a beautiful steam shower retreat. The original layout had a the acrylic tub at the bathroom entrance on the left with the vanity and toilet toward the window. We replace the casement window with a glass block and removed a closet and expanded the area for the new shower. The shower base is recessed to achieve a barrier free entrance. This spa has a steam unit as well as dual rain heads controlled independently. There is a floating tiled bench with four body jets on separate controls.
The custom wall mounted vanity is perfectly integrated with a Vanico over counter sink. Two wall mounted fixtures provide a sleek look with the practical functionality of a dual sink configuration. A matching tall linen maximises storage. There is also a heated wall mounted towel warmer on a digital timer thermostat.
We added a pocket door to the adjacent bedroom to provide convenient private access for guests.

Designing an ADA bathroom requires thoughtful consideration, and every element of the shower and walk-in closet had to be well discussed, thoroughly planned, and constructed to meet unique needs. Leveling throughout was paramount to allow independent rotation of a walker and wheelchair, widening the entry to the now curb less shower provides a safe and seamless transition from the open bathroom to the enlarged shower. Non-slip pebbled tile, an adjustable handheld shower head, and two reachable convenient niches sit above the proud floating shower bench creating a zero-barrier universal space.

Located in the British Properties of West Vancouver the garden of this unique property was designed to reflect the traditional character of the home and community, while integrating a range of amenities for the modern-day family. The property is backed into a forested parkland with access to the mountain trails and nature while exposed on the south with sunny views of the city and water. The feeling as you approach the home is tranquil and natural, the sound of water rushing down the waterfall in the courtyard is fresh and soothing. Lush displays of woodland plants and specimen trees blend the urban and native environments. In the rear garden, an expansive Brazilian hardwood deck floats above the lower patio and pool deck. The swimming pool sits parallel to the house, creating a spectacular mirror to the sky and surrounding foliage. Lawn areas soften the edges of the patio and hot tub to enjoy this vibrant outdoor space. The versatile garden is organic but organized and creates opportunity for play and relaxation, with intimate outdoor rooms that flow together but function independently as well.

2012, My first kitchen renovation project working independently. Originally, this area had a wall that divided the kitchen from the dining room. Here the wall was removed to create an open floor plan. We added a peninsula (with niche) and the back door was replaced with a window which allowed for a continuous counter top and more natural light. Small spaces require special attention to maximize function. Custom made cabinetry allowed for a magic corner pull out next to the sink, a paneled dishwasher, spice drawers, a counter depth refrigerator, beverage center, cooktop with downdraft vent and undercounter oven (in peninsula). French doors were added to the dining room, and the client designed and built a beautiful outdoor patio. Overall, we managed to incorporate all the necessary features while adding plenty of natural light and storage. Photo by Marvin Shaouni

Glass railings are a significant element in today’s modern architecture. They provide a clean, contemporary design and convey light and transparency to create a more open and expansive feel. Each piece of glass can be custom ordered allowing for flexible dimensions and a multitude of design options. In this particular design, the glass was attached vertically by fixed steel stand-offs which were installed directly into the ends of the solid 2” thick Walnut treads. Each piece of glass was attached independent of the others and then a continuous steel handrail was installed up the length of the staircase not only to act as a hand-hold when traversing the stairway but to provide stiffness and support to the entire glass assembly. The Walnut treads overlay a ½” steel plate sub-structure which cantilevers out of the wall to create a stunning floating staircase while the glass railing permits an unobstructed view to the beauty of this masterpiece.

The homeowners had a very large and beautiful meadow-like backyard, surrounded by full grown trees and unfortunately mosquitoes. To minimize mosquito exposure for them and their baby, they needed a screened porch to be able to enjoy meals and relax in the beautiful outdoors. They also wanted a large deck/patio area for outdoor family and friends entertaining. We constructed an amazing detached oasis: an enclosed screened porch structure with all stone masonry fireplace, an integrated composite deck surface, large flagstone patio, and 2 flagstone walkways, which is also outfitted with a TV, gas fireplace, ceiling fan, recessed and accent lighting.
