This busy family needed to update their first floor powder room as it was near the main entry and frequently viewed/used by guests. We replaced the vanity with a white oak piece from Restoration Hardware, and added brass plumbing hardware, lights, and brass mirror to warm up the space. The wallpaper is a navy floral with soft neutral vines/birds and makes a striking impression!

A base cabinet corner pullout easily stores frequently used cooking items. These Lemans pullouts move effortlessly in and out of what can often be a difficult storage space to maneuver.

The bathroom needed to be reconfigured from an awkward and tiny layout so the owners could get the most functionality and use from it. Also, client's parents frequently visit and stay with them, so more functionality and safety in this bathroom (of 2 in the house) was sorely needed.

Client was preparing for a change in eating habits and wanted to clear unhealthy options out and make room for new items. We emptied out the entire pantry, did a sort and purge, moved less frequently used items to the top and bottom, and arranged healthy snacks right at eye level. We kept her baking staples (flour, sugar, honey, etc.) but put them all together and on the top shelf.

Container water gardens are beautiful and require less frequent watering than their soil counterparts. To keep mosquitoes away, add a small fountain (they won't lay eggs in moving water), add a small fish or two like rosy reds (they eat the larvae), or simply toss in a mosquito dunk.

Tasteful update to classic Henry Hill mid-century modern in the Berkeley Hills designed by Fischer Architecture in 2017. The project was featured by Curbed.com. Construction work required updating all systems to modern standards and code. Project included full master bedroom with ensuite bath, kitchen remodel, new roofing and windows, plumbing and electrical update, security system and modern technology updates. With this home remodel, we removed the roof and added a full story with dormers above the existing two story home we had previously remodeled (kitchen, backyard extension, basement rework and all new windows.) All previously remodeled surfaces (and existing trees!) were carefully preserved despite the extensive work; original historic cedar shingling was extended, keeping the original craftsman feel of the home. Redolent of Cape Cod and other seaside locales, the pool house is appointed with relaxed furnishings — slip-covered sofas, rugged tables and sturdy, natural fiber area rugs. In keeping with the industrial/modern look, a Gregorios Pineo chandelier and Jamie Young Steampunk floor lamp illuminate the interiors. Cleverly concealing the entertainment center when not in use, a sliding barn door, created from reclaimed lumber from a farm in Oregon, gives the structure a rustic, relaxed feel. It’s become the family’s hangout of choice since completion. A small galley kitchen, covered in Ann Sacks tile and custom shelves, serves as wet bar and food prep area for the family and their guests for frequent pool parties. Vinyl covered walls in the powder room protects from moisture—and kid paws—and lends a beach-y, sandstone texture to the room. Polished concrete flooring carries out to the pool deck connecting the spaces, including a cozy sitting area flanked by a board form concrete fireplace, and appointed with comfortable couches for relaxation long after dark. Poolside chaises provide multiple options for lounging and sunbathing, and expansive Nano doors poolside open the entire structure to complete the indoor/outdoor objective. Our Clients, the proud owners of a landmark 1860’s era Italianate home, desired to greatly improve their daily ingress and egress experience. With a growing young family, the lack of a proper entry area and attached garage was something they wanted to address. They also needed a guest suite to accommodate frequent out-of-town guests and visitors. But in the homeowner’s own words, “He didn’t want to be known as the guy who ‘screwed up’ this beautiful old home”. Our design challenge was to provide the needed space of a significant addition, but do so in a manner that would respect the historic home. Our design solution lay in providing a “hyphen”: a multi-functional daily entry breezeway connector linking the main house with a new garage and in-law suite above.

Because of its convenient location and outdoor living feel, a patio is often seen as an extension of our indoor living space. Whether it's made of stone, brick or concrete, this paved spot is frequently the life of the party, especially when you add a grill, fire pit or fireplace.
