This historically recognized Mid Century modern home, originally designed by Architect Francis Joseph McCarthy in 1949, was remodeled and expanded with a deep appreciation and respect for the original. The Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Historic Preservation, the federal standard for were maintained in the design of this project. Key elements of the original home: vertical privacy louvers, floor to ceiling wood window walls, interior and exterior wall finishes, were restored. The additions follow the fundamental formal and spatial language of the original while introducing new materials and detail. Embracing the formal and spatial precedent of the original, the new additions form stacking and shifting ‘L’ shaped plan elements floating above the courtyards. These courtyards enhance the original inside-outside lifestyle desired for this home. The sequence of arrival begins on a lush, canopy road. The landscape design extends the intimacy of the canopy experience and leads the owner to the front entry, transitioning to a more responsive sense of scale. Once there, water elements emerge as a fundamental feature; a clean-lined koi pond greets visitors and provides symmetry with the rear pool and canal.

Be prepared ….the moment one steps over the threshold all perception of what a typical mountain home can be changes in an instant. A perfect explanation of what is presented is modern meets mountain. The elegant, simply unique home features a fresh approach to mountain living. Consistency and continuity are the fundamental features of this special home. Certain elements run throughout the interior; engineered wide oak flooring, white horizontal plank paneling, and gray fresh split stone adorn the walls and limestone countertops in various rooms. However, as your eye follows the quiet, clean lines they are intermittently interrupted with a dash of splash here and a pop of color there that are placed precisely in the right spots.
