This newly built custom residence turned out to be spectacular. With Interiors by Popov’s magic touch, it has become a real family home that is comfortable for the grownups, safe for the kids and friendly to the little dogs that now occupy this space.The start of construction was a bumpy road for the homeowners. After the house was framed, our clients found themselves paralyzed with the million and one decisions that had to be made. Decisions about plumbing, electrical, millwork, hardware and exterior left them drained and overwhelmed. The couple needed help. It was at this point that they were referred to us by a friend.We immediately went about systematizing the selection and design process, which allowed us to streamline decision making and stay ahead of construction. We designed every detail in this house. And when I say every detail, I mean it. We designed lighting, plumbing, millwork, hard surfaces, exterior, kitchen, bathrooms, fireplace and so much more. After the construction-related items were addressed, we moved to furniture, rugs, lamps, art, accessories, bedding and so on. This high-rise condominium at The Mayfair longed for the renewal conceptualized in its 3 bathrooms. Each was a complete renovation, adding relevant aesthetic updates and much-needed functionality and storage. We capitalized on the immense amount of natural light in the primary bath and we amplified it throughout the space by opening up walls to the shower, lining the vanity with full-sized, built-in vanity mirrors, and distributing electrified lighting throughout. Custom cabinetry was designed to capture every inch of usable perimeter space and incorporate the elevated tub platform. The guest bath emulates a classic, luxury hotel feel infused with color, a great tile pattern on the focal shower wall, a furniture-style vanity, and a fun floor design. The powder bath is dark and moody with textural wallpaper and an espresso-colored porcelain floor tile emulating marble. All of the appointments throughout exude the luxury look and feel the client desired, are maintenance friendly and will stand the test of time.

Nautical-themed hybrid swimming pool with raised spa, sunshelf, slide, grotto, and pizza oven (September 2013) – Ask the Pool Guy and his team at Legendary Escapes recently unveiled the newest Legendary Escape, a stunning nautical-themed hybrid swimming pool. The hand-carved concrete waterfall, rock slide, and grotto are the focal point of this incredible project, and designer and builder Al Curtis has truly outdone himself this time. Behind the waterfall sits a grotto that seats 8-10 people comfortably. The waterfall, slide, and grotto area come complete with intricate details and additions that perfectly play into the project’s theme. An immense amount of creativity, talent, and skill is required to take ordinary materials like vinyl and concrete and turn them into the outstanding backyards that Curtis creates, but these details allow his creativity to shine in a different light. Curtis immerses himself completely in just one or two projects at a time, which allows him the opportunity to add those intricate details that take his extraordinary projects to the next level. Some of the details in the grotto area of this hybrid project include real ship portholes that open and close, as well as carvings and lanterns to add visual interest inside of the grotto. The project also includes a raised spillover spa and a sunshelf with a bubbling water feature. The sunshelf has steps leading into the main body of the pool, giving swimmers an easy entry point if they don’t feel the urge to jump off the top of the waterfall or take a ride down the hand-carved, hand-tiled slide. The shelf has just enough water to allow shallow wading or lounging, and the pebbled finish provides a perfect place to set a lounge chair without worrying about damaging the vinyl liner. With the spa nearby, this whole end of the pool is perfect for relaxing, talking, or watching the kids while they swim. This incredible hybrid swimming pool also includes a poolside pizza oven, so fresh, stone-fired pizza is never far away. The brick oven can cook a pizza in about 90 seconds, and produces authentic, outstanding pizzas. The homeowners have spent years perfecting their pizza crust and sauce recipes, as well as growing their own tomatoes and basil. The pizza oven adds another element of their own personality, and makes this project even more perfect for them. With a built-in countertop, it’s easy to get a couple of pies going at one time, or to prep ingredients for personal pizzas. The homeowners are very family-oriented and love to have friends and family over to their home. During the construction process, the Legendary Escapes crew met several friends and family members who stopped in for some quality time and to check out the progress of the pool. The finished product is a perfect place for entertaining, and it feels very comfortable and welcoming. With the sunshelf, spa, grotto, poolside seating, and the pool itself, there are plenty of different places to sit or soak and have conversations or splash around. Curtis is incredibly proud of this project, and he has high hopes for it. He was recently named a Master of Design by Pool & Spa News for a hybrid swimming pool he built in Brighton, MI. This new, nautical hybrid pool fits in beautifully with his portfolio, but also stands out as extraordinary. This luxury fitted mudroom, utility and cloakroom was installed for our clients who wanted to combine highly practical facilities with a cohesive design scheme that expressed their artistic aesthetic. What could have been a bland, utilitarian space has been transformed with dark walnut wood, decorative interest and exceptional craftmanship. The suite of bespoke built-in cabinets has created a beautifully organised, multipurpose free-flowing space. Flawlessly spray finished in Inchyra Blue by Farrow & Ball, the dark blue green grey is a dramatic colour which, along with the walnut wood and striking artworks, makes a bold and confident impression. Bespoke walnut wood features Walnut, renowned for its deep, lustrous tones has an enduring elegance. Used for fitted furniture and wall panelling, walnut elevates any space, adding natural warmth and richness. As a hardwood, walnut has exceptional durability and is naturally resistant to moisture and warping, which makes it an ideal choice for a cloakroom or bathroom setting. For this project, the walnut veneers have a natural oiled finish to bring out the beauty of the grain. The reeded walnut veneer wall panel behind the built-in bench adds stunning texture and visual interest to the joinery. Shaker-style doors with fretwork panels Made to measure fretwork doors and panels like these conceal unsightly features while also providing ventilation. A well-aired mudroom or boot room is vital to ensure outerwear dries quickly and doesn’t become musty. This is especially important for the floor to ceiling shoe cupboard we built here as it helps to keep the footwear fresh. The decorative fretwork pattern also adds visual interest and makes the room feel less enclosed. Integrated LED lighting installed throughout the joinery enhancing safety, brightness and enjoyment to the space. Custom-made vanity unit This large, sleek handle-free vanity unit provides a generous amount of storage space with a smart interior arrangement with customised waste management. The soft-closing drawers are operated by a smooth, silent, push to open mechanism. The floating design allows for LED lighting underneath the cabinet. Dog shower and storage The purpose-built indoor dog shower is great for hosing down and drying off the dogs. It doubles up as somewhere to wash muddy wellies and golf clubs too. Bespoke shelving and hooks for all the dog paraphernalia keeps the pet zone well-organised and tidy. All in all, the result is a cloakroom which combines highly functional mudroom, utility and cloakroom facilities in an immensely stylish space. It’s immensely practical yet incredibly stylish with a strong focus on aesthetics and design.

This vintage-inspired faucet handle brings a touch of nostalgia to the Lake Forest master bathroom, proving that even the smallest elements can carry immense design weight. The polished chrome surface gleams against the marble countertop, highlighting the handle's elegant silhouette. The ceramic insert marked "COLD" is a nod to traditional European bathroom fittings, while the robust construction ensures modern-day performance. The handle's proportions and shape were carefully chosen to fit comfortably in hand while maintaining a refined look. This urban townhouse took on new life when it was renovated for a couple relocating from New York City. The owner’s sophisticated taste, cultivated from world travels, paired with the character of the existing home and resulted in a fresh and colorful gem in the heart of the historic downtown. Extensive approvals from the local Historic District Commission preceded an addition on the rear of the time-honored building and a complete restoration of the exterior. The addition encompasses a first-floor, finished garage with arch doors that open to the gardens, ideal for entertaining. Above the garage accommodates the master bedroom, walk-in closets and a bathroom suite. The exterior restoration allowed the addition of window pediments, shutters with authentic hardware and gaslight features. Pocket gardens surround the townhouse and boast multiple plantings that complement a historic environment. The interior of the home was restructured to allow for reworking of the main stair. The reconfigured flight can now carry the weight of books and art alongside ascending residents and guests. Amid construction, two previously hidden fireplaces were uncovered. By the end of the renovation, four fireplaces were entirely refurbished and now lend immense aesthetic to interior design. The interior finishes within the home keep visitors engaged and impressed.
