This Montford family had many helping hands in the kitchen — but lacked the space to accommodate more than one chef at a time. The Hands of Sean Perry Co. got to work opening up the home’s floorplan to improve flow between rooms, built an addition onto the lower level, constructed a new 300-square foot deck and, upstairs, added a laundry nook and powder room. Then, they took a closer look at the kitchen. To improve functionality, the team installed a large island, but left a wide clearance for multiple guests to maneuver in and out without disruption. Quartz countertops and white and citronella cabinetry provided the perfect contrast for industrial-inspired cabinet hardware and shelf brackets, and the crew was even able to repurpose and incorporate the owner’s heirloom cabinet as a wall cap along the stairwell.

This colonial home renovation reimagines the original character of the house by adding a light-filled entry gallery overlooking the covered front porch. The revised circulation plan opens up the interior to frame views and improve the flow between spaces while maintaining the traditionally defined rooms throughout. New large-paned casement windows replace the modest double-hung units to enhance the scale of the exterior facade and streamline the architectural detailing. The arrival sequence is improved by relocating a brick-lined driveway southward to extend the lawn and allow boxwood clouds set in ground cover to frame new bluestone walks. Overlooking the idyllic golf course beyond, the new rear garden and bluestone terrace better defines the yard and provides a generous outdoor living space. Keeping within the same blueprint, the kitchen was completely remodeled to allow for a better flow of the kitchen, clean lines and more lighting. The kitchen includes Kraftmaid Grandview Full Overlay Cabinets in a Canvas Finish with Typhoon Bordeaux Granite Top. The cabinet knobs and pulls are from Liberty Mila in Satin Nickel. The sink faucet is a Delta Essa Single Handle Pull Down kitchen faucet in Artic Stainless and an Elkay Crosstown stainless steel undermount rectangular sink. The stainless steel appliances are GE Profile. Recessed ceiling lights, under the cabinet and inside cabinet lighting (Kichler) and Hinkley LED Pendant Lights over the island gives lots of lighting. Winner of the 2018 Tour of Homes Best Remodel, this whole house re-design of a 1963 Bennet & Johnson mid-century raised ranch home is a beautiful example of the magic we can weave through the application of more sustainable modern design principles to existing spaces. We worked closely with our client on extensive updates to create a modernized MCM gem. Extensive alterations include: - a completely redesigned floor plan to promote a more intuitive flow throughout - vaulted the ceilings over the great room to create an amazing entrance and feeling of inspired openness - redesigned entry and driveway to be more inviting and welcoming as well as to experientially set the mid-century modern stage - the removal of a visually disruptive load bearing central wall and chimney system that formerly partitioned the homes’ entry, dining, kitchen and living rooms from each other - added clerestory windows above the new kitchen to accentuate the new vaulted ceiling line and create a greater visual continuation of indoor to outdoor space - drastically increased the access to natural light by increasing window sizes and opening up the floor plan - placed natural wood elements throughout to provide a calming palette and cohesive Pacific Northwest feel - incorporated Universal Design principles to make the home Aging In Place ready with wide hallways and accessible spaces, including single-floor living if needed - moved and completely redesigned the stairway to work for the home’s occupants and be a part of the cohesive design aesthetic - mixed custom tile layouts with more traditional tiling to create fun and playful visual experiences - custom designed and sourced MCM specific elements such as the entry screen, cabinetry and lighting - development of the downstairs for potential future use by an assisted living caretaker - energy efficiency upgrades seamlessly woven in with much improved insulation, ductless mini splits and solar gain

This project started as a kitchen remodel and evolved into a complete transformation. CLT Design/Build converted five separate rooms (living, dining, family, flex and kitchen) into one large great room that is flooded with natural light. CLT Design/Build added windows, removed walls and relocated the kitchen to improve flow, and create a strong connection to the outdoors.
