Talk about a dramatic transformation!! This Customer had a very large, but dark Kitchen & Dining Room. The original design of the Kitchen was very inefficient. Several cabinet doors couldn't open all the way for access into the cabinet. Counter space was broken up. The flow of both cooking and traffic through the Kitchen wasn't efficient. Lighting was dim. It wasn't a bright and cheery space where family gatherings could happen easily. Now? This is the space where everyone congregates! You can definitely see why. Beautiful!! The original 1970's kitchen with a peninsula to separate the kitchen and dining areas felt dark and inefficiently organized. Working with the homeowner, our architects designed an open, bright space with custom cabinetry, an island for seating and storage, and a wider opening to the adjoining space. The result is a clean, streamlined white space with contrasting touches of color.

This transitional kitchen remodel transformed a dark, inefficient layout into a bright, functional space designed for everyday living and entertaining. A reimagined multifunctional island, ceiling-height cabinetry, soft blue accents, Bianco Mist quartz countertops, and custom storage solutions create a timeless kitchen that balances beauty with exceptional functionality.

This couple approached us to design and renovate their existing master suite on their adorable Broad Ripple area home. Their goals were to update, open up and improve the function of their space. The ceilings were very low and the space was tight with an inefficient master bath and separate closet. We began by removing the ceiling and providing a high cathedral space for an expanded feel in the bedroom. We removed a side door and picture window and installed a sliding glass door to improve the natural lighting of the space and allow access to their landscaped patio on the back of the home. We stole space from the large master bedroom and eliminated the door that led into the closet, to allow for a larger bathroom and walk-in master closet with dressing area. This permitted a larger shower with a bench and the addition of a make-up vanity area. We also enlarged the window in the bathroom to allow more natural light into the space. The final design element was a floating step outside the sliding door onto their patio which is clean, modern and enhances the entrance to their serene master suite from the exterior.

We recently took on an exciting whole-home renovation for this lovely historic Trinity in Center City Philadelphia. Originally built in the mid-1800s, the house footprint is just over 17’ x 13’. As is typical of this type of 3-story house, the kitchen is located in the basement, making this house four floors of occupied space with overall square footage totaling just under 900 square feet. The homeowner felt the former kitchen was cramped, dimly lit, and inefficiently designed, and she was in search of help in bringing her artistic vision for the space to life, blending both old and new elements through an exciting mix of textures and character. High on her priority list was integrating her wonderful collection of objects gathered from her travels around the world. We brought our design skills and construction experience to the team, working with the homeowner and the designer to develop a host of creative solutions, including the installation of an Indonesian screen as a sliding door covering a newly reconfigured utility area, which includes a new on-demand hot water heater, mounted next to a new electrical panel with ample room for service and access. In this home remodeling project, the homeowners sought to transform their bathroom into an Industrial-style space. The original bathroom was dark, dated, and inefficient in its layout, prompting a complete overhaul to achieve a modern and functional feel. To optimize the space, unnecessary walls were knocked down, opening the area and allowing for a more logical flow. To preserve some of the home's historical elements, carefully selected materials were used, seamlessly blending the old with the new. A distinctive feature of the design was the incorporation of exposed pipes, not only as an industrial aesthetic element but also to create more space in the shower. The result is a bathroom that pays homage to the history of the home while introducing eye-catching tiles and a stylish vanity area, successfully combining industrial design elements with the practicality and aesthetics desired by the homeowners.

New pantry replaces pantry closet. With kitchen completely gutted, brand new Shaker style cabinets replaced the inefficient and small pantry clost. Other additions include Berenson cabinetry hardware, new wider plank hardwood floors and freshly painted walls.

These homeowners approached us with a partially finished basement lacking a bathroom and an inefficient laundry area. One of the homeowners used the unconditioned, cold, and damp space as a home office, making it uncomfortable and impractical. The goal was to create a fully functional and versatile living space by adding a full bathroom, a kitchenette, and a concealed laundry area. The space needed to be designed to serve the family’s daily needs, including accommodating their teenage son and functioning as potential rental income in the future. Now considered an ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit), the remodeled basement features a private entrance, bathroom, kitchenette, and bedroom, offering comfort, flexibility, and long-term value for the homeowners.

2010 REGIONAL AWARD WINNER Built in 2000, this center hall colonial in Fairfax Station, Virginia had a kitchen that was neither functional nor aesthetically pleasing. First, the floor plan was poorly rationalized. The work triangle was inefficient, a large pantry took up too much floor space, and a series of railings between the kitchen and family room obstructed traffic flow. Aesthetically, the space was dated. Dutch cabinetry, floral wallpaper and a faux Victorian chandelier all cried for an update. Additionally, the homeowners wanted to incorporate high-end appliances and other amenities like a wine cooler and steam cooker. Overall, the owners were seeking to replace worn out-of-style kitchen with a substantially upgraded “open” facility that combines traditional and contemporary features configured to support multiple social and culinary needs. Working with Michael Nash Design, Build & Homes, they decided to implement a series of strategic revisions that would support their new use goals. First, they removed an obstructive bearing wall between the existing kitchen and mudroom, creating a recessed niche for a new 48” gas range with custom hood. An unused desk taken out provided a spot for the new 48” two-drawer refrigerator/freezer. A custom-designed L-shaped granite-surfaced island with bar sink, icemaker and mini-drawer refrigerator takes center stage in the space and offers seating for six. Now the chef can entertain guests while preparing the meal. From an aesthetic point of view, the interior features are nothing less than stunning. Softly painted walls, decorative ceramic tile backsplashes and granite surfaces combine with custom made cabinets to create an elegant space. Antiqued soft-opaque cabinet facings, wood panel refrigerator door inserts, glass-facing display cabinets and a custom mantle range hood are true works of craftsmanship. Fine detail is expressed with flutes and corbels. Beauty is truly in the details of this award-winning kitchen.

French manor styling was the result of the client's love of all things French, down to the chandelier found in a little shop in Paris. The focus on a serious working kitchen required plenty of attention to detail while layering on the opulence. It's really a French pastry. The teak butcher block island top provides a lifetime of food preparation. Not able to find a hood with the right proportions Simmons & Co. designed a custom stainless hood with the correct gentle curve. Authentic French hardware was plated in pewter to soften the hardware's impact. Generous pantry storage and the oven wall replaced an inefficient walk in pantry. A dust bin access to the central vacuum system is tucked into the toe kick under the pantry and an emphasis was placed on the toe kick designs to eliminate the typical awkward appliance toe kick resolutions. Note the paneled dishwasher door to the right and left of the sink. When closed, the dishwasher disappears entirely. For those chilly winter mornings in Lake Sherwood an authentic English coal fire basket adding both beauty and function with the tile selection and color coordination completing the "Interior Hardscape". The chandelier is symbolic of the fun we all had working with a client whose shining spirit and creativity guided our goal of "doing the right thing" at each and every a decision. What a creative project should be all about. Oh, yes, the chandelier. Look closely to find old colanders, pie tins, tea cups and parts and pieces from and old working kitchen.

This open concept had everything everyone asks for such as an open plan with connection to the Family room, an island, wall ovens, etc. However, all of these great features were poorly arranged and inhibited the use of the space. By redesigning the layout, we were able to keep all existing walls in place and provide a new and improved layout that the homeowner loves. The full size refrigerator was relocated to the corner, a range replaced the cooktop & wall ovens which were not efficient in the limited space, and a three-segment island replaced the existing two-tired island. The new island provides more seating, additional workspace and most importantly, improved flow. Cabinetry was replaced with white shaker style cabinets that extend to the ceiling. A TV was built-in above the 5-door refrigerator, a new chimney style hood and glass front cabinet were carefully positioned to create balance. The island was painted a blue-grey color and topped with a warm, elegant wood top. Cabinets lining the walls are topped with blue-grey granite and have a coordinating glass tile backsplash. Dark stainless steel appliances provide the right amount of contrast. New lighting and refreshed floors finish off the space. The inefficient pantry closet was replaced with a new built-in pantry cabinet with pull-out tray shelves and deep drawers.
