The need for a kitchen better suited to entertaining was the driving force behind the start of this great kitchen remodel. The original kitchen and adjacent living area were redesigned to encompass a new larger kitchen with semiformal eating area along with a wet bar and great cozy sitting room. The clients Christine and Steve along with the interior designer Sharon Ryan made great choices in products and finishes to give these new spaces a fresh new look that blended seamlessly with the rest of the home. The kitchen designer John Noland used Fieldstone Cabinetry in the LaGrange door style ( Beaded inset ). The perimeter kitchen cabinetry is finished in Dove paint with a latte glaze complimented by the island and bar cabinetry in Cherry wood with Hazelnut Stain. The expansive new kitchen countertops are Taj Mahal Quartzite with a sleek apron front sink from Kohler. The bar top granite is Peacock with a stainless steel undermount bar sink. Everything from new random width hardwood flooring, window replacement, cabinetry and finishes were done by CCKAB’s lead contractor Don Pitt and assistant Dan. Everyone involved in this great kitchen project did an awesome job and what a result.

A complete kitchen and powder room remodel in Herndon, Virginia, designed around two clear priorities: open up the kitchen to the rest of the main level, and create an experience that felt warm and timeless rather than trendy.
The original layout had a wall separating the kitchen from the dining room and an awkward fridge wall that limited both storage and traffic flow. Our solution involved removing the dividing wall (confirmed non-load-bearing), tightening the new dining room opening to 66 inches, and extending the fridge wall 25 inches into the kitchen to create a proper full-height pantry run. The result is a kitchen that breathes — open to the dining and living areas, with clear sight lines from the island to the bay windows at the far end.
Design Approach
The clients came in knowing they didn't want white. They didn't want navy. They wanted something with real wood character — the kind of finish that ages well and looks more like furniture than stock kitchen cabinetry. Cherry was the answer to that question.
We anchored the room around contrast: warm cherry cabinetry against clean white walls and white quartz, black hardware grounding the cherry's warmth, and a single waterfall island acting as the architectural focal point. Stainless appliances, brushed gold pendant accents, and the herringbone hardwood floor pull the room together without any one element shouting for attention.
The Cabinetry
Medallion Gold Line Sonoma Cappuccino — a stained cherry finish that catches light differently throughout the day. All-plywood box construction, solid wood doors and drawer fronts, soft close everywhere, US-made with a lifetime warranty. Four pull-out drawers built into the pantry bottoms keep the deep storage actually usable rather than a black hole.
Cabinet hardware is Top Knobs Riverside Pulls in flat black — 40 pulls across drawers and doors, plus three longer pulls on the 36-inch base drawers. The black was a deliberate decision: with cherry and stainless already providing warm and cool tones, brass or gold would have been one warm tone too many. Black grounds the cabinetry and gives the kitchen its architectural definition.
The Island and Countertops
MSI Calacatta Miraggio Gold quartz throughout — perimeter counters, island, waterfall ends, and the powder room. The Gold variant has subtle warm veining that pairs with cherry where cooler whites would have fought the wood tone.
The island gets a full waterfall edge — slabs book-matched, miters precise, the finished edge essentially seamless. Treating the island as architectural sculpture rather than just functional storage. The black undermount farmhouse-style sink ties back to the hardware throughout the rest of the kitchen.
The Backsplash
MSI Metro Gold tile — small format white and gold tiles in a herringbone-adjacent pattern with intermittent gold accents. Full height, continuous behind the floating shelves and behind the hood.
Four custom floating shelves are spaced above a 3-inch countertop ledge: first shelf 18 inches above the ledge, second shelf 9 inches above that, third 18 inches above the second. The shelves are stained to match the cabinetry. The backsplash continues behind the shelves and behind the hood, so the wall reads as a continuous textured surface that the shelves and hood float in front of.
The Appliances
This is a serious cooking kitchen. The clients chose a 48-inch Wolf gas range, a Sub-Zero built-in refrigerator integrated into the cherry cabinet wall, a Wolf microwave drawer in the island base, and a Bosch dishwasher. For ventilation, we installed a 1200 CFM hood paired with a make-up air system to balance the negative pressure that hood pulls. New ducting was routed through the exterior siding on the side of the house.
The Flooring
MSI engineered hardwood throughout the entire main level — approximately 800 square feet — installed in a Bramlett herringbone pattern. Herringbone adds roughly 15-20 percent to material and labor costs because of the angled cuts and waste factor, but the result is a floor that reads as more considered and luxurious than standard plank flooring. Finished with 4.5-inch white wood baseboards throughout.
The Powder Room
A small room with a big personality. The clients chose a deep blue and teal scallop pattern wallpaper (client-supplied, we installed) and paired it with the same Sonoma Cappuccino cherry vanity used in the kitchen — material continuity between the spaces.
Powder room countertop is the same MSI Calacatta Miraggio Gold quartz from the kitchen with a rectangular white undermount sink. Hardware on the powder room vanity is Top Knobs Riverside in honey bronze rather than the kitchen's flat black — the warm bronze pulls the brass tones from the faucet into the millwork and complements the wallpaper. New sconce, kept the existing toilet (refinishing or replacing a working toilet is wasted money in a powder room remodel), and a Panasonic Whisper Green exhaust fan.

Designed and built by My Kitchen and Bath out of our Herndon showroom at 285 Sunset Park Drive. We've been designing and building kitchens, bathrooms, and full home renovations across Northern Virginia and the DMV since 1994.

Nancy Knickerbocker of Reico Kitchen and Bath in Southern Pines, NC worked with Tod Reid to design a kitchen featuring Merillat Classic and Masterpiece Cabinetry.
The kitchen includes Merillat Classic cabinets in the Ralston door style with a Mist finish on the wall cabinets and a Dusk finish for the base, island, and pantry cabinets. The window seat cabinetry features Masterpiece cabinets in the Rockwell door style with a Slate finish.
The kitchen design also incorporates Silestone Pearl Jasmine countertops, 12x14 Odine Silver floor tiles, 4x12 Metro White backsplash tiles, KitchenAid appliances, and a Whirlpool hood.
Nancy explained that the project involved updating the kitchen and widening the opening to the family room. "They wanted to improve the work area and provide seating at the island. Previously, there was a table at the bay window. We built a window seat below the bay window and relocated all appliances. Installing the range on the diagonal allowed for workspace on both sides. The island was designed to not impede the walkway from the hall door. The microwave drawer enabled us to add a range hood and a unique tile backsplash."
“The homeowners also wanted to incorporate a "watering station" for their dogs, so a drain was added near the water bowls. "I especially like the watering station; it's the first I've added to a kitchen remodel but probably won't be the last!" said Nancy.

This is a project we took over and finished after another contractor could not complete it. It involved ripping out almost all of the interior framing and rough-in work from the past contractor. Features Allura woodtone exterior siding with lots of upgraded interior finishes.

This Fowlerville kitchen remodel achieved a complete reconfiguration of the space for a total kitchen design update. By opening up a wall to the dining room we created a larger space with an improved layout, more efficient workflow, and improved storage options. The Medallion Cabinetry in a warm wood finish sets the tone for the design, and is beautifully complemented by Richelieu hardware, a Corian countertop, and porcelain tile backsplash. Behind the cabinet doors sits amazing customized storage solutions including a KitchenAid mixer cabinet and a specialized coffee station. The layout change also involved moving the sink to be positioned under the window, with a Delta faucet and Elkay sink.

This remodel project in Bellevue’s charming Newport Shores neighborhood involved a completely reimagined kitchen and nook. To create a more open and functional kitchen, our design solution involved removing the walls around the oversized pantry and replacing it with a custom built-in breakfast nook. This allowed us to uncover and make use of an existing window while adding two more windows around the nook, dramatically increasing natural light and making the space feel brighter and more inviting. To preserve storage, we kept the full-height green cabinetry, ensuring the homeowners still had ample dedicated pantry space.
For the laundry area, we reimagined the flow by building a dedicated entry from the garage—a new stairway and door that opened directly into the kitchen. This allowed us to give the laundry room its own enclosed space, eliminating the need to walk through it when coming and going, and contributing to a more streamlined and spacious kitchen layout overall.

Inspiration for a large modern l-shaped dark wood floor and brown floor open concept kitchen remodel in Chicago with an undermount sink, flat-panel cabinets, white cabinets, solid surface countertops, white backsplash, stainless steel appliances and an island

Wood cabinets will never go out of style. This kitchen design in a townhome in the city involved removing a wall housing plumbing from the also remodeled Master Bathroom and opening up the space to allow a beautiful flow into the the living and dining area.

This renovation involved expanding the kitchen space into an adjacent office area, creating a side entry, new kitchen layout that worked well for two cooks, professional grade appliances, oversized island with seating on two sides, eat-in area, sitting area and furniture look cabinets with both stained and painted finishes. We enlarged an existing window by creating a boxed bay at the relocated sink and designed a continuous quartzite counter which serves as planting ledge for herbs and flowers. Some of the appliances were integrated into the cabinetry with panels, while others were designed as impact pieces. Custom designed cabinets include a large mantel style chimney hood with vent insert, furniture grade hutch with leaded glass doors, contrasting stained island with seating on two sides, bar with wine refrigerator and deep drawers, and a galley style butler's pantry which provides secondary prep space and ample storage.
Details such as shaped cabinet feet, upper glass front cabinets, pull-out trash drawer, spice columns and hidden drawers and storage make this newly designed kitchen space feel luxurious and function perfectly. Traditional materials and forms meld seamlessly with industrial accents and modern amenities. Mixed metals are used in a balanced and dynamic way with warm gold tone cabinet hardware, stainless steel and chrome all working in harmony. Antique furnishings blend with the newly designed cabinets and modern lighting.

This family asked us to build a heavy-duty functioning kitchen and adjoining family room. They wanted a clean-lined traditional white kitchen. Our priority involved form following function as well as sourcing durable materials and finishes.
In addition to the cabinets, we custom designed every inch of the kitchen including the wire-brushed oak island, kitchen desk cabinet, tambour-door appliance garages, easily-moveable prep cart, and reclaimed wood/metal table.

This kitchen renovation was part of a whole house project that involved the entire first floor, including the mud room, and an upstairs and downstairs bathroom. Our primary aim was to make the kitchen the main focal point of the house, and take advantage of the natural light in the back. To do this we removed the partition wall, and all the elements of the back mud room. Existing exterior doors were replaced and this significantly helped bring in the natural light and make the entrance 1st floor more inviting. Our clients opted for Shaker White cabinetry with accented black finishes and an industrial glass styled backsplash.
We improved the comfort of the space with spray foam insulation that included space heating in the mudroom and heated floors in the kitchen. The sink was also moved to the peninsula to free up countertop space and allow for a better work triangular arrangement.
Our favourite is the new RED FRONT DOOR! We love it…

Another aspect of this Family Home Update involved gutting the Kitchen, making the layout more efficient, expanding the island, updating the custom cabinets and taking them all the way to the ceiling, and installing new appliances, countertops, backsplash and fixtures. The newly refinished floors look amazing against the new rich wood cabinet stain. The slate and ledge-stone backsplash brings the outdoors in. The island provides lots of prep space and is large enough to accommodate 4 leather saddle seat barstools.

This remodel project in Kirkland involved a completely reimagined kitchen, nook, family room and outdoor living room. The client dreamed of a chef’s kitchen featuring blue accents with an open environment that was lighter and brighter. This was accomplished through significant floor plan and layout revisions to the three primary living areas to create cohesiveness when preparing meals and entertaining guests, both indoors and out.

This North Shore of Boston client wanted to make a change; she decided to purchase a seaside antique home and was up for the challenge to re-design and remodel. Her plan involved re-locating her mother from Florida to the newly added wing of the house when the remodel was in full swing.
We believed that what was standing between our client and the kitchen of her dreams was a well thought out, creative design and a wall or two…
Once outdated and worn, this 1830 antique kitchen was closed off from the family room and dining spaces. The newly re-configured kitchen with re-claimed wide-plank wood floors and restorations to wood cladding on the ceiling, beam and open corner shelving really warmed up the room and welcomes friends, neighbors and relatives. Wood bead board paneling around the island cabinetry along with mixed metals, tie in nicely with the stunning soapstone countertops with distinctive copper-colored veining, creating a beautiful vintage appeal.
Styled to look like an old-fashioned stove, this steel range boasts modern conveniences such as dual-fuel (gas burners and electric oven) and a convection oven crowned by a custom steel hood adorned with rivets and metal trims.
To enrich the vintage feel, a white farm-style fire clay apron sink was installed that also evokes a classic and time- honored feel.
Although the process was daunting as it presented several challenges, it was a rewarding experience when the project was completed. Our client and her mother were absolutely thrilled with the final results.
“Thank you to Cathy and Ed very much for all your assistance with my kitchen planning! I’m fortunate to have had your input and expertise! It was great seeing you and spending time together and my mom really liked you both. I would welcome you to stop by and say hello when you’re headed to Portsmouth or the north shore. All the best!”

This stunning fully Vineuve designed and renovated kitchen showcases a complete transformation with a subtle grey cabinetry with clean lines, a prominent central island featuring a maple butcher block waterfall countertop, and an elegant marble herringbone backsplash that adds sophisticated texture to the space. The renovation involved strategically filling in a doorway to create a continuous wall, which now features a seamlessly integrated hidden cabinet door fridge that blends perfectly with the surrounding cabinetry for a clean, uninterrupted look. The open-concept layout flows effortlessly into adjacent living areas, enhanced by recessed lighting in a coffered ceiling and oak hardwood flooring that extends throughout the space, creating a bright, modern, and highly functional culinary environment.

Updating this '80s kitchen involved taking in the gorgeous views of this vacation home and pulling in the hues of the rocks and water outside. Existing tile flooring was considered for color selection as well. Photography and Design by Spaces Into Places
