Gorgeous hickory cabinets in a slate finish make a statement in this modern kitchen renovation by Thompson Remodeling. To create a clean contrast to the dark cabinetry, we installed white quartz countertops and a pale gray marble tile backsplash. The center island features a linear pendant light, lots of drawers for storage, and accommodates seating for four. A bar and beverage center offers space for a wine refrigerator and shelves for coffee and cocktail supplies. To open up this galley kitchen we removed walls between the kitchen and dining room.

Kitchen - 1950s kitchen idea in Detroit

This typical 1980͛s master bath was a 5͛ x 8͛ foot space with a single vanity, small, angled shower and modest linen closet. The homeowner͛s desire was to have two sinks, a soaking tub, shower and toilet all in the same 5͛ x 8͛ space. This certainly posed a design challenge. Deleting the linen closet and relocating the toilet allowed for a ͚wet room͛ design concept. This enabled the homeowner͛s to incorporate both a soaking tub and a tile shower with a frameless glass enclosure. A sliding barn door replaced the old existing inswing door making room for his & her vanities opposite each other. The 12 x 24 porcelain tile covers the bath floor and wraps the shower walls to the ceiling. This adds visual depth to this small space. A glass and metal hexagon accent band create a pop of color and texture in the shower. This bath was made complete with Cambria Bellingham quartz countertops, glass vessel bowls and coordinating glass knobs on the vanity cabinetry. 205 Photography

Inspiration for a contemporary kitchen remodel in Vancouver

MA Peterson www.mapeterson.com The true centerpiece of this project is the rift sawn oak, which we used for the custom cabinetry throughout as well as on the artisan hand-chipped, carved kitchen island. Compared to traditional plain and quarter-sawn styles, rift sawn wood is less common and simply put, exquisite. The milling is done perpendicular to growth rings, producing a grain pattern with no flecking, a unique linear look, and impressive dimensional stability. The delicate, complementary tones of the oak floor pull everything together in a quiet harmony, and slate backsplash adds its own brand of dimensional interest and beauty. Accommodating the owner's desire for premier details, we also designed a custom steel hood for the cooktop and carefully selected fine quality dining stools to accompany the center island.

When a husband and wife team of professional botanists wanted to remodel their cramped, 1980s-era bathroom, we naturally looked to the forest for inspiration! With the expert help of Elite Construction Services Inc., we opened up this formerly segmented space (the toilet and washer/dryer were in a separate area from the shower/tub and vanity) to make it feel larger. A controlled, muted color scheme further enlarges the room by connecting all the planes, and serves as a neutral backdrop for a calming spa experience. All the materials speak to my clients’ love of nature. The custom wood vanity with tower and coordinating mirror frame are made so the grain lays in a refreshing horizontal pattern. The porcelain field tile is made to look like limestone with shadows of sediment and fossils. Other elements add to the feeling of a walk in the woods: long-format porcelain tiles of falling leaves cascade down a wall and blend into a stream of river stones that roll across the width of the space. The open, curbless shower with a hidden linear drain invites users for a cleansing respite. This large open concept kitchen and dining space was created by removing a load bearing wall between the old kitchen and a porch area. The new porch was insulated and incorporated into the overall space. The kitchen remodel was part of a whole house remodel so new quarter sawn oak flooring,a vaulted ceiling, windows and skylights were added. A large calcutta marble topped island takes center stage. It houses a 5’ galley workstation - a sink that provides a convenient spot for prepping, serving, entertaining and clean up. A 36” induction cooktop is located directly across from the island for easy access. Two appliance garages on either side of the cooktop house small appliances that are used on a daily basis. Honeycomb tile by Ann Sacks and open shelving along the cooktop wall add an interesting focal point to the room. Antique mirrored glass faces the storage unit housing dry goods and a beverage center. “I chose details for the space that had a bit of a mid-century vibe that would work well with what was originally a 1950s ranch. Along the way a previous owner added a 2nd floor making it more of a Cape Cod style home, a few eclectic details felt appropriate”, adds Klimala. The wall opposite the cooktop houses a full size fridge, freezer, double oven, coffee machine and microwave. “There is a lot of functionality going on along that wall”, adds Klimala. A small pull out countertop below the coffee machine provides a spot for hot items coming out of the ovens. The rooms creamy cabinetry is accented by quartersawn white oak at the island and wrapped ceiling beam. The golden tones are repeated in the antique brass light fixtures. “This is the second kitchen I’ve had the opportunity to design for myself. My taste has gotten a little less traditional over the years, and although I’m still a traditionalist at heart, I had some fun with this kitchen and took some chances. The kitchen is super functional, easy to keep clean and has lots of storage to tuck things away when I’m done using them. The casual dining room is fabulous and is proving to be a great spot to linger after dinner. photos by Pedro Marti The clients hired us to overhaul a dated post war apartment on the upper Eastside of Manhattan. The clients wanted an open kitchen so we removed the wall separating the standard galley kitchen from the living area letting all the light from the adjacent glass terrace doors enter the kitchen. We also extended the footprint of the kitchen to create a large eat-in counter. The kitchen has a white on pale grey color scheme with custom white lacquer cabinetry, light grey wood grain base cabinetry, and light grey and white quartz counters and backsplash. The white and grey scheme continues in the powder room where a small white carrera marble and stainless steel wall hung sink is surrounded by a pale silver/grey grasscloth wallpaper. The master bathroom has a large dark wood double sink vanity with custom mirrored cabinets above that have tv’s within the mirrored glass. The master bathroom is tiled with a white thassos marble mini brick pattern pattern on the floors, a large white thassos marble wall tile, and dramatic white and black linear veined marmara marble wall tiles inside the shower. In the ensuite guest bathroom similar large white thassos marble tiles clad the wall with a custom grey and white glass mosaic inset behind the vanity and inside the tiled niche. Pedro Marti

When we started this project, opening up the kitchen to the surrounding space was not an option. Instead, the 10-foot ceilings gave us an opportunity to create a glamorous room with all of the amenities of an open floor plan. The beautiful sunny breakfast nook and adjacent formal dining offer plenty of seats for family and guests in this modern home. Our clients, none the less, love to sit at their new island for breakfast, keeping each other company while cooking, reading a new recipe or simply taking a well-deserved coffee break. The gorgeous custom cabinetry is a combination of horizontal grain walnut base and tall cabinets with glossy white upper cabinets that create an open feeling all the way up the walls. Caesarstone countertops and backsplash join together for a nearly seamless transition. The Subzero and Thermador appliances match the quality of the home and the cooks themselves! Finally, the heated natural limestone floors keep this room welcoming all year long.
