This family loves classic mid century design. We listened, and brought balance. Throughout the design, we conversed about a solution to the existing fireplace. Over time, we realized there was no solution needed. It is perfect as it is. It is quirky and fun, just like the owners. It is a conversation piece. We added rich color and texture in an adjoining room to balance the strength of the stone hearth . Purples, blues and greens find their way throughout the home adding cheer and whimsy. Beautifully sourced artwork compliments from the high end to the hand made. Every room has a special touch to reflect the family’s love of art, color and comfort.

Having technology in a room catered to you can be a tall order. We designed this room to have a central lighting system and a thermostat control so that you can feel comfortable in your home. If you look through my page and see the rainbow bedroom, that little girl grew up and this is her tween bedroom. The only thing she really cared about was that it was turquoise and there was enough room for her and her friends. Mom was not crazy about her room "glowing" with all that color so I suggest we paint the ceiling turquoise and keep the walls white. It made for a nice bright room now that she was on the north side of the house. We kept the same nightstand and with a little spray paint and a new knob, it fits in perfectly. A queen-size day bed with a twin trundle, she has plenty of room for sleepovers and by adding lots of pillows and a swinging chair they can hang out and listen to music. A desk as you enter gives her a study space without interfering with the rest of the room.

We were excited to work with this client for a third time! This time they asked Thompson Remodeling to revamp the main level of their home to better support their lifestyle. The existing closed floor plan had all four of the main living spaces as individual rooms. We listened to their needs and created a design that included removing some walls and switching up the location of a few rooms for better flow. The new and improved floor plan features an open kitchen (previously the enclosed den) and living room area with fully remodeled kitchen. We removed the walls in the dining room to create a larger dining room and den area and reconfigured the old kitchen space into a first floor laundry room/powder room combo. Lastly, we created a rear mudroom at the back entry to the home.

This Jersey City, NJ space was the first permanent ‘home’ for the yoga studio, so it was essential for us to listen well and design a space to serve their needs for years to come. Through our design process, we helped to guide the owners through the fit-out of their new studio location that required minimal demolition and disruption to the existing space. Together, we converted a space originally used as a preschool into a welcoming, spacious yoga studio for local yogis. We created one main yoga studio by combining four small classrooms into a single larger space with new walls, while all the other program spaces (including designated areas for holistic treatments, massage, and bodywork) were accommodated into pre-existing rooms. Our team completed all demo, sheetrock, electrical, and painting aspects of the project. (The studio owners did some of the work themselves, and a different company installed the flooring and carpets.) Saturday, June 20, 2:00 to 3:30pm | Amagansett The Gillman Garden by Victoria Fensterer of Victoria Fensterer Landscape and Garden Design, LLC Flowers overflow in this lush, sun-filled garden for a charming and historic farmhouse. The landscape for this Amangassett retreat includes a courtyard and pool area. In the courtyard garden, a central axis provides structure to the design while old large evergreens provide height and a sense of enclosure. A rose pergola and vine-covered arbor lead to garden spaces beyond. An existing pool was recreated into a more organic shape, lined with large stones and boulders. Small evergreens complement older established ones, creating a secluded enclave. The patio was paved with warm-hued stone and edged by planting beds. Here the plantings take on a tropical feeling. A rustic pavilion provides a cozy place to sit and observe the light dancing off the water and to listen to the sound of birds and wind in the trees. On the south side of the property, the landscape architect planted a group of large broadleaf and needled evergreens to provide privacy and year-round interest. This beautiful home located in downtown Denver, in the heart of historic construction and homes has been transformed. The owner is an interior designer and Design First Kitchen and Bath was her "go-to" design professional.
