Major master bathroom remodel with the removal of a load bearing wall to create more space. Conversion of the walk in closet to more space for the tub and shower.

Master bathroom expansion. The original bathroom was only 30 -40 square feet. My customer asked me to expand into the adjoining closet and vanity area, more than tripling the space. There were load bearing obstacles that had to be modified and windows were added. The shower has a shower head, hand held sprayer and two body jets. The tub is large and holds up to 54 gallon and is 6 feet long.

We turned this 1954 Hermosa beachfront home's master bathroom into a modern nautical bathroom. The bathroom is a perfect square and measures 7" 6'. The master bathroom had a red/black shower, the toilet took up half of the space, and there was no vanity. We relocated the shower closer to the window and added more space for the shower enclosure with a low-bearing wall, and two custom shower niches. The toilet is now located closer to the entryway with the new shower ventilation system and recessed lights above. The beautiful shaker vanity has a luminous white marble countertop and a blue glass sink bowl. The large built-in LED mirror sits above the vanity along with a set of four glass wall mount vanity lights. We kept the beautiful wood ceiling and revived its beautiful dark brown finish.

Inspiration for a craftsman home design remodel in Miami

We created this mid-size trendy bathroom by refurbishing existing vanity and fixtures. White subway tiles were wrapped around the bathroom with grey porcelain tiles. The floor tiles bear a resemblance to brush strokes of watercolors, creating a flow in the space. We installed a new soaking bathtub with a frameless barn shower door to add to the unique look. The tile pattern and neutral colors help elongate the space and make it feel bigger. As a part of this renovation, we carved out a small laundry space in the hallway closet. For this kitchen and bath remodel in San Francisco's Cole Valley, our client wanted us to open the kitchen up to the living room and create a new modern feel for all of the remodeled areas. Opening the kitchen to the living area provided a structural challenge as the wall we had to remove was load-bearing and there was a separately owned condo on the floor below. Working closely with a structural engineer, we created a strategy to carry the weight to the exterior walls of the building. In order to do this we had to tear off the entire roof and rebuild it with new structural joists which could span from property line to property line. To achieve a dramatic daylighting effect, we created a slot skylight over the back wall of the kitchen with the beams running through the skylight. Cerulean blue, back-painted glass for the backsplash and a thick waterfall edge for the island add more distinctive touches to this kitchen design. In the master bath we created a sinuous counter edge which tracks its way to the floor to create a curb for the shower. Green tile imported from Morocco adds a pop of color in the shower and a custom built indirect LED lighting cove creates a glow of light around the mirror. Photography by Christopher Stark.
