This home had a previous master bathroom remodel and addition with poor layout. Our homeowners wanted a whole new suite that was functional and beautiful. They wanted the new bathroom to feel bigger with more functional space. Their current bathroom was choppy with too many walls. The lack of storage in the bathroom and the closet was a problem and they hated the cabinets. They have a really nice large back yard and the views from the bathroom should take advantage of that. We decided to move the main part of the bathroom to the rear of the bathroom that has the best view and combine the closets into one closet, which required moving all of the plumbing, as well as the entrance to the new bathroom. Where the old toilet, tub and shower were is now the new extra-large closet. We had to frame in the walls where the glass blocks were once behind the tub and the old doors that once went to the shower and water closet. We installed a new soft close pocket doors going into the water closet and the new closet. A new window was added behind the tub taking advantage of the beautiful backyard. In the partial frameless shower we installed a fogless mirror, shower niches and a large built in bench. . An articulating wall mount TV was placed outside of the closet, to be viewed from anywhere in the bathroom. The homeowners chose some great floating vanity cabinets to give their new bathroom a more modern feel that went along great with the large porcelain tile flooring. A decorative tumbled marble mosaic tile was chosen for the shower walls, which really makes it a wow factor! New recessed can lights were added to brighten up the room, as well as four new pendants hanging on either side of the three mirrors placed above the seated make-up area and sinks. After.......... and happily ever after. While the bathroom has plenty of space, the clients wanted to update they style to better suit their tastes and capture the ocean and sky views. We removed a water closet from the outside wall that obstructed views (far end) also allowing the vanity mirrors to reflect the spectacular view. This master bedroom is full of light. We kept the room simple, using design solutions of adding crown and 1x on the ceiling and painting it all with a semigloss sheen to provide visual depth. The somewhat contemporary fan (the Energy Star-qualified Lapa model from Modern Fan Co., offers three-speed AC motor for maximum airflow efficiency), meshes perfectly with the updated farmhouse cottage feel. Plantation shutters provide plenty of protection from the sun while also providing architectural and linear lines that juxtapose the sheer drapes on the four post bed. Notice the layout of the hall with the master closets flanking and the master bath at the end. Design solutions included a pocket, two-panel door with glass above and solid below, providing natural light into the hallway (area seen in the photo at the end of the hall; door is open). For this renovation, the basic layout functioned well for the homeowners, but the bathroom was feeling dated and in need of an overhaul. We replaced a bulky tub deck with a more scaled back and refined surround, complete with a paneled front to match the custom his and hers vanities. A wing wall was removed to allow light in and create a more open feel. A prefabricated shower pan and dated sliders were replaced with a custom tiled shower and frameless glass. We used a combination of natural travertine and porcelain tiles to provide visual warmth to the expansive bathroom. The Clients contacted Cecil Baker + Partners to reconfigure and remodel the top floor of a prominent Philadelphia high-rise into an urban pied-a-terre. The forty-five story apartment building, overlooking Washington Square Park and its surrounding neighborhoods, provided a modern shell for this truly contemporary renovation. Originally configured as three penthouse units, the 8,700 sf interior, as well as 2,500 square feet of terrace space, was to become a single residence with sweeping views of the city in all directions. The Client’s mission was to create a city home for collecting and displaying contemporary glass crafts. Their stated desire was to cast an urban home that was, in itself, a gallery. While they enjoy a very vital family life, this home was targeted to their urban activities - entertainment being a central element. The living areas are designed to be open and to flow into each other, with pockets of secondary functions. At large social events, guests feel free to access all areas of the penthouse, including the master bedroom suite. A main gallery was created in order to house unique, travelling art shows. Stemming from their desire to entertain, the penthouse was built around the need for elaborate food preparation. Cooking would be visible from several entertainment areas with a “show” kitchen, provided for their renowned chef. Secondary preparation and cleaning facilities were tucked away. The architects crafted a distinctive residence that is framed around the gallery experience, while also incorporating softer residential moments. The master bath in this Franklin home, completed in 2017, features a natural cement looking porcelain floor tile with large format Italian porcelain slabs on the walls to create a natural gray travertine appearance. The wall hung cabinetry is simple yet functional allowing for all items including towels, linens, and dirty laundry to be easily stored in the two towers flanking the countertop. Above the two towers is a ribbon of glass windows to the ceiling which provide ample light while allowing for privacy. The bathroom also features a makeup vanity area with built-in hidden medicine cabinets and a huge walk-in shower with rain head, floating stone seat, and matching floor-to ceiling porcelain slabs on the shower walls.
