Although the master suite in this professionally used condo is used only occasionally, the owners still wanted a cozy space to retreat. We used layers of bedding and beautiful pillows to dress the bed and chose a grand scaled bed to create a visual interest.

My clients had outgrown their builder’s basic home and had plenty of room to expand on their 10 acres. Working with a local architect and a talented contractor, we designed an addition to create 3 new bedrooms, a bathroom scaled for all 3 girls, a playroom and a master retreat including 3 fireplaces, sauna, steam shower, office or “creative room”, and large bedroom with folding glass wall to capitalize on their view. The master suite, gym, pool and tennis courts are still under construction, but the girls’ suite and living room space are complete and dust free. Each child’s room was designed around their preference of color scheme and each girl has a unique feature that makes their room truly their own. The oldest daughter has a secret passage hidden behind what looks like built in cabinetry. The youngest daughter wanted to “swing”, so we outfitted her with a hanging bed set in front of a custom mural created by a Spanish artist. The middle daughter is an elite gymnast, so we added monkey bars so she can cruise her room in style. The girls’ bathroom suite has 3 identical “stations” with abundant storage. Cabinetry in black walnut and peacock blue and white quartz counters with white marble backsplash are durable and beautiful. Two shower stalls, designed with a colorful and intricate tile design, prevent bathroom wait times and a custom wall mural brings a little of the outdoors in. As part of a large scale remodel, this master bedroom is a bachelors' dream with masculine bedding in a deep navy blue and pops of yellow. The use of reclaimed wood and wool broadloom continues the design concept of natural elements yet the pops of color add a modern edge. A little perch in the corner with a small scale chair set against large artwork adds drama.

Wingspan’s gull wing roofs are pitched in two directions and become an outflowing of interiors, lending more or less scale to public and private space within. Beyond the dramatic aesthetics, the roof forms serve to lend the right scale each interior space below while lifting the eye to light and views of water and sky.

This home was a part of Homarama in the mid-2000's. What a charming look with the grays in the home and stone. We are seeing this color gain some mad momentum over the past year. Well I just love the size of the stone on this large home. Size and scale are always important and while I'm sure a combination of ledgestone and rubble (what we call the fieldstone size pieces) would have won some hearts for me this rubble look is classic and exquisite. So when you are deciding upon a stone veneer for your home make sure to consider the entire scale of the application, scale of the home, any special elements (chimney, turrets, portico's, etc) when choosing your stone.
